League 1.....Administration.....

Talk Sport are saying...
If fans not allowed back into the grounds...
Then 19 out of the 24 clubs will go into administration.....

The whole footballing pyramid is going to be fu**ed if the governing bodies don't get their act together sharpish.

There appears to be no plan whatsoever just "these restrictions will be in place for 6 months or so"

And that's why they should have done what non league did not open the doors till fans can attend and if that means players taking a huge cut to see it out tough.
It’s ridiculous they started the season not knowing when they can start earning money.

A lot will surely depend now on whether or not ifollow can sufficiently help fill the gap left by fans not able to attend. If not then I guess administration will be inevitable for many unless the season is stopped and contracts cancelled?

Can you really imagine any professional football league club sharing sensitive information like that with a bunch of charlatans like them?

It's just sensationalism masquerading as sports journalism, and it is what they do. Radio by bell ends, for bell ends.

Apparently, for a typical League 1 or 2 club, income to the club from iFollow for a match averages in the region of £7-£10k. Contrast that with ticket revenue and pies/pints sales from a 5k real crowd, which has got to be about £75k...?

It would be easy to over inflate ifollow monies if the club offer free codes to any ST they have sold. It would be interesting to know how many additional supporters would be prepared to pay for a ST if it was a question of seeing their club limp through to the end of the season. We have capped our sales at 4k. Would another 4 or 5k be prepared to do that, even if they didn't get a ifollow code in return?
It is interesting that Wigan aren't allowed to sell STs whilst in administration but have raised quite a bit in their 'Save Wigan' fund. The trouble is if that was passed across it may disappear into a black hole with no guarantee a buyer would be found

I would do it if I got an ifollow code. They need to restart selling season tickets I think. Might be the way through the next 6 months. What purpose does the 4000 cap serve now?

True. Haven't a few Blackpool fans been on Talksport

We do not know the true picture, but most clubs must be under considerable strain and be even more reliant on the deep pockets and goodwill of their owners. And some of the owners may be under pressure if their businesses are also suffering. "Bigging up" the worse case scenario may be one way of pushing for more supprt from the EFL, PL and Government.

Your sentiment is right but the reality is not everyone is in the position of “ contributing” the equivalent of the season ticket price. In fact the fact we sold 4000 is in my opinion a massive show of support already.
When I renewed mine I was fully aware that I was certainly going to miss a number of games before anyone was allowed in and that even when we were allowed back I would probably miss a number of the home mid week fixtures as not exactly being a youngster the idea of a120 mile round trip in the middle of winter is no longer so attractive to be regularly doing.
It was simply something I wanted to do given the owners clear affiliation, and affection for the club ( plus the investment he has already put in) and it was something I could still afford to do at least for this season. Not everyone is able to do this but I am sure many will still try to support the club in whatever way they can.
At least I was one of the lucky ones to be there last Saturday.I just hope others will get the chance because right now who knows.

If they sold season tickets now at £250-300, with an ifollow code, you would get all the home games which cost £10 each so it would pretty much cover the price and we may get back in the ground before the end of the season. It's a good deal for all concerned IMO. Not a case of charity.

There is without doubt enough money in the game in general to help clubs in all four divisions, and maybe even further down. Many PL clubs have been saying or at least acting as though fans are not an important part of the revenue stream, and match day crowds are the thin edge of wedge, even for Manure, match day earnings are only around 17-18% of total income, with a club like Burnley it is less than 6% i think.

I think i could make a reasonable business case for the PL and the TV companies to ensure that all four divisions survive based on loss in interest in the game when small clubs go under. When that happens fans don't generally shift allegiances, they just lose interest altogether which means that football viewership goes down, advertising revenues go down which means that the value of the elite leagues also goes down because it doesnt have the reach, although you do have to factor in the international audiences.

A study in spain a few years ago showed advertising revenues dropping for big match TV games, and TV subscriptions for areas that didnt have elite league clubs were dropping, people were just turning off the game altogether. The really interesting thing was that international viewership was also dropping and nobody understood why. The pressure that was putting on the TV companies was fairly intense, although at the time that pressure wasn't transferred to the clubs.

I'd just like to point out they've managed a minor run chase on here, including me of course so no offence meant (smiley)

Can people stop mentioning Peterborough,as southshorepool keeps wetting his pants and the head has run out of spare undies and is contemplating using the ladies stuff.

Oh hang on a mo.. 😀

Who is going to buy a season ticket now, that hasn’t done already, in the knowledge that there is every chance there will be no crowds all season.

Me. Cos it would cost similar to paying a tenner per game for iFollow. And I may get march, April, May in the stadium. And it helps the club too.

I’m not knocking your idea and it would be great if as many people as possible would do it were the club to offer more for sale but as things stand I can’t see that happening.

Maybe not, but it makes sense to me. I suspect quite a few fans are watching games on iFollow and would pay 250 to get the rest of the home games with the chance of being in the stadium for the last part of the season and the opportunity to help the club out.

There's a strong feelgood factor and a lot of appreciation for Sadler's commitment. And the financial outlay will be similar to buying each game on iFollow. As I've been saying!

Out of curiosity I wonder how the Ifollow works for the club with current season ticket holders.
I assume the club has to pay for the privilege of offering it “free“ ( sic) to current season ticket holders for home games so in essence there is lost revenue as I can’t see the EFL and the providers not wanting something out of it.Hopefully the club can negotiate a good deal.

I'm pretty sure it was an EFL decision, encouraging fans to commit to season tickets. Ordinarily, these matches wouldn't be available to home fans at 3pm on a Saturday anyway, so there's no loss of ifollow income to the EFL. In reality, the sums involved are relatively small. iFollow is being used to keep fans involved with their clubs, with hopefully fans being prepared to pay for merchandise etc to support the club financially too. Be interesting to know how many ifollow passes are bought for Saturday away games, since anything over 500 is bonus revenue for the club.

Good news if that is the case.
My only problem is I’m nervous enough watching from the stands and even worse when it’s on the TV or in my case the IPad....I guess I’ll have to get use to it.
