Leicester bid for Yates

I've given up on Football Insider since they said that we were going appointing Bowyer and he wasn't even in the running for the job

I'd be happier if he went to Leicester, I think he'd do really well with consistent chances rather than 3 chances every 10 games.

Below asking price if true 🙄
Don’t believe a word of it. Leicester don’t even have a manager yet.

Note that Jerry is often ‘linked with’ various clubs. Possibly a coincidence, if such things exist in the world of football transfer gossip 🤔

Note that the story doesn’t say that the £2.5mn bid (which Nixon reported earlier) was from Leicester

It’s hard to know what to believe.

The article looks likes it’s been thrown together as click bait to be honest.

Still, there could be some truth in it and if Leicester are interested along with the likes of Coventry etc then I hope it can drive up the fee.

If there’re serious I’d ask them to pay 4 mill up front, 2 mill if they go up and at least 1 decent loan player. They’ve got plenty of cash in the bank and he could be a steal at that price

Think that is reasonable, I would expect that the 2.5 mill reported is a starting point and should be rejected out of hand.
He does deserve to play at a higher level, and I hope a mutually agreed transfer is possible

We need to do what every other club does and hold out for more money when the club's with financial clout come knocking. They made it clear on the Sunderland documentary that when it's them coming in for a player, they pay more than another club because it's Sunderland and the club holds out knowing they'll pay it if they have to.

Keeping Yates simplifies bouncing straight back up, we should be holding out and getting more than market value for him as he is worth more to us than that in promotion money. If he goes to a club like Leicester for less than 5 million, we're mugs.

End of thread.

Yeah was funny that, because until that everything I saw them post turned out to be true, particularly if it came from Pete O’rourke

Look at the raw emotion in this lads face, he's everything I want to see in a player at my club. We should move heaven and earth to keep him if we can. If we can't his value shouldn't be allowed to be underestimated by greedy bastards looking to get him on the cheap. I know every player has his price and he may want away, God knows he deserves better than League 1 but he could achieve better with us, couldn't he?

Go on Jerry, stay and be a hero, you know you want too

Jerry is not only a good striker at championship level, but his work rate, length of contract remaining, personality and the fact he's loved here should make us put a decent proce tag on him.

Time to stop being little Blackpool, other clubs slap silly prices on and seem to get away with it.

Give Jerry a bigger contract also. Keep the vultures away
He wouldn’t sign another contract, and I don’t blame him, that doesn’t mean however that we should let him go for a song. He’s got 1+1 still left on his contract, if he stays one more season and helps us get promoted, then he can leave. His value will have increased, we will be receiving Championship money once again, win win. After management promises of profits on players being reinvested and likesome other posters wondering what happened to the Bowler and Critchley monies. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for any Jerry money being spent this season. No, it should be either sell him for his value and reinvest or keep him for this season with a promise of leaving then.

Fully agree with this.

Would love to know where his heads at.

The thing is, what we're asking for really isn't 'silly money'. It's the going rate for good strikers who are proven to score goals at Championship level. Emil Riis was being looked at for £8m with two years left on his contract and a poorer recent goal-scoring record in the championship.
There is only one reason why clubs offer so little for our players - and why we get so little for them - and that's because of how we are perceived. Changing that perception must come first and foremost from within, by how we behave and how we think of ourselves.
We sold Brett Ormerod for £1.75m and at the time he'd never played in the championship. And that was 22 years ago. Some of our fans, and actually those in charge, need to get with the times and recognise the value of players these days. It isn't 'silly money', it's the going rate. And we need to start charging it, and hold firm to that.

As a comparison, Bristol City are looking for a minimum of £25 million for their young striker Alex Scott.
If you think there is any comparison between Scott and Jerry Yates I’m afraid you are living in LaLa Land

We’ll do very well to get anywhere near £4mn. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a saga

Absolutely right.

Well, my opinion only, give Jerry a one year extension to his contract at championship money.
With a release clause for offers over £7million.
The lad will put himself in the shop window by setting Division 1 alight and end up with a bigger financial beneficial move when we are promoted to the Championship in May 2024 than he will now🚌🧡
