Let’s talk about Kaikai

Bit harsh to call Bez a flop. He’s definitely one to look to develop by playing here and there and improving. It’s just instead of throwing him on when we are winning he is playing in games we aren’t doing well in which will harm his confidence not build it.
Sorry, I don't see he has anything to offer. A waste of money. Unfortunately, Critchley has made some poor signings and his coaching of players at this level has been abject.

Late to this one. Fully agree with Shig's opening gambit and the various comments about being played out of position, and also the frustrating inconsistent ones.

if I was ever a manager, heaven forbid, then I hope I'd always find a way of incorporating a luxury player into the formation, because I think every team needs one and I would want the team to express itself and its individual skills/flair. And I know that's not the real world because results keep your job, not entertainment, so this is me just saying my own aspirations for a team.

There's been so many of them over the years, we all know the names. Time was the game's pace was completely suited to them and they flourished. The more recent ones like Le Tissier, while a God at club level because he stayed where it was best for him, were unfortunate to be around at international level as the game went (even more) hard working and formation driven, plus playing for England managers who wouldn't or couldn't tolerate the lack of workrate. Cantona got away with murder because he had a hard working midfield around him and a manager who was prepared to accept the plusses outweighing the minuses.

Sul is our box of tricks, and I think that final bit is where Critch is with him. He's no more a left winger than I am, and I'm 54 and my left foot has always been for aesthetic and balance purposes only. It does puzzle me why he persists with him out there as there are alternatives for the wide left role.

I know I'll get pelters for this, but I actually liken Sul's situation to Joe Cole, a talented and skilful ball player who also had the workrate to go with it. I personally thought he was good enough for England to build a creative midfield around, playing an advanced central position. But it never happened because firstly Lampard and Gerrard's roles were deemed more important to the team's success, and secondly England didn't have a genuine left sided player at the time so Cole got the job and ultimately became about as effective as Sul is now in the same position.

if he's going to be played then Sul's just got to be given the freedom of the park (when we're in possession), understand what's needed of him more when we're not, and get someone to deliver a rocket, thinly disguised as a confidence building love in. The psychologist suggestion above is an interesting one - it's not often I've thought they were of much benefit, but there's something here that's stopping him using his potential and talent. If it's just CBA then that's a shame because he does have it, it's just going to waste at present.

ive always found him a bit frustrating its clear he is talented and can be a game changer on his day but thats the problem there are many games he is a passenger and a bit lazy

Kaikai has been missing in games recently but his return from injury against MK Dons coincided with our upturn in form. Agreed he is a luxury at the moment but he can win games for us when he is on form.

Basically whatever his skills may be he just doesn`t do enough or contribute enough overall to the team effort to justify his inclusion.

So having a quick read of this thread in summary:

We should get rid of most of this squad as they are all shite.

He’s a class player, best when he’s played centrally behind the strikers.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t fit there for us, so if he’s out wide, he must have Yates and Madine as a front 2. If we don’t have them together, Kaikai and CJ will always have close attention, which destroys our threats. If we play all 4, no team in this league can cover every threat.

Quite why NC is repeating selection mistakes I don’t know, but he’s clearly thinking too much about the opposition than maximising our threat. My heart sank last night when I saw the starting 11, just as it did v Oxford.

It’s ridiculous for anyone and in particular NC, to expect much from Kaikai, when we just launch it to Madine on his own, and when our midfield spend the entire match only on spoiling duties. We need Yates to link it all together. Kaikai got the ball to his feet once last night and won a free kick when he was fouled as he took on the defender. The lad is not a winger, so he’s playing out of position, and we don’t get the ball to him.

I‘d like to see more workrate from him, but generally you don’t get that from flare players at any level e.g. Neymar and Messi. Not every player can be a grafter, and we need match winners like Kaikai.

He's not a class player by any means. He's been shipped out wherever he's been. He's lazy, disinterested and occasionally flatters to deceive. His contribution at Pool has been negligible.

To be honest most of them are going to have to go, not because they’re shoite but because they’ll never do any good for us despite being talented due to the fact there’s 5 or 6 central midfielders and we only play one a game.

Spot on. Brilliant post.

His nose dive in confidence has coincided with Garbutt starting regularly and taking all the set pieces. Now you can read that as sulking or you can read it as a player out of position who is seeing his influence dwindle still further as he now spends even more time shuttling up and down the flank and doesn't even get to come to the middle for set pieces. Whilst Garbutt is a better player than Husband, Sullay I think could go wandering knowing Jimmy was behind him when he was at full back, but as Garbutt likes to get forward, Sullay now has more to think about defensively as well which ties him even more to that flank.

Another player who looked good in a 442, with Yates available to feet or pulling wide, Madine in the air, and flexibility to drift inside. KK has looked out of sorts in the 3 all season

A lot on this thread seem to have got their wish. Not involved at all today. Hope it has a positive impact on his attitude

When this guy came in I thought he was the most exciting player we’d had in years. Very skilful, great close control etc and still at an age where his career could go to another level. Since then I’ve been his biggest fan really, even after the injury problems last season I thought he’d be our main man this season, and don’t get me wrong he’s been brilliant at times.

But that’s the thing with him isn’t it. It’s always in flashes. When was the last time he ran a game (which I firmly believe he is capable of doing) or having a run of 5 games where he was playing out of his skin. He’s got everything in his locker to be one of the best players in the league apart from one thing seemingly: Grit

He just seems like he’s constantly in second gear, even when he’s playing well it’s like he could still go up another level, but he doesn’t. Such a luxury player, and if he delivered more on the pitch I’d be fine with it, but he doesn’t. Really running out of patience with him.

Like I said I’ve always been a big fan of him just want to see what others think about the situation.
Brilliant today 👍 if he can stay consistent from now until the end of the season he’s as important as anyone
