Lets Remember one thing...

This one goes out to all those celebrating the 75th anniversary of the ending of War in Europe.

Just remember, when those soldiers came home, along with their families on the home front, the nation voted in the most extreme left wing government this country has ever seen.
So far to the left was the Labour Party of Clement Attlee that they brought in Social Security, the National Health Service and the welfare state.. that is the most Socialist, left wing ideas this country has ever witnessed and it was the heroes of 1945, true patriots, that wanted to make sure that the country took care of all its people and not just the well off.
True Patriotism is socialist, taking care of the sick, the poor, the infirm and the elderly. And giving free education to our young people.
If you celebrate VE Day then you should also celebrate the commitment, that this bankrupt nation in 1945 had, to make sure the least of us were taken care of.

I think the Tories voted against it!

I have to say, and I dont usually get involved in political posts, but that OP is in really poor taste. Its a football board FFS.

The notion that voting Tory and being against the NHS are the same is one of the biggest falsehoods ever.

Saying things in good taste, at the appropriate time, and knowing what is going too far, are not things commonly associated with the politics that the o/p and Catinstalbans are trying to push.

What a load of tosh BFC53.

Why don’t you run for office KO?
It’s a simple enough route via the CLP into councillor. Commitment then leads you to head up the local CLP group In time. You’re then a ‘shoe in’ for the MP nomination.
Get elected on sensible, well thought out principles and proposals that people want to vote for, then make the changes the country wants and needs.

Or you come on a mb for a lower league football team and try to change the country from here???

I hate the tories. I think they severely underfund and under value the NHS. VE Day not a stick to beat them with though

Keep digging ko you tosser - oh so the right kind of everything is stuff people agree with you about. How's life in the leftard bubble? Your brain starved of oxygen yet? Tosser!

This goes out to the OP and those who endorsed it with a like👍🏻

The welfare state did not just miraculously appear after the war, it was commissioned, specified, developed and prepared during the war.

Whitehall and an army of civil servants were evacuated out of London and shipped to a seaside town with a tall tower so that they could work in safety to prepare for the roll out of the Welfare State after the cease of the hostilities.

You can Google this if you want to, but anybody who has a link to this town, and has enough interest in social history to be reading the OP, should already be aware of the true facts.

It must've taken you an hour to write that.

Just about every news paper and news programme has touch upon post war British Politics and the rejection of the Tories under Churchill.

Good job too... as we now have the welfare state. Up the people!

You and Cat must be related. You seem to lead a life full of hate where every breath you breathe is poisonous.
Totally obsessed. Get a life.

I'm celebrating the fact there was a sea change for our heroic servicemen and women and their families after the war. People had greater security and would certainly live longer. Eventually there was free education for all.

And thats what I call true patriotism, it's about the people and not the flag!

Not really, The Beveridge Report was mostly rejected by Churchill and leading Tories, Churchill adopted a wait and see until after the war stance, he also opposed the NHS, its highly unlikey that either would have happened under a Tory government.

Sorry.

Sorry.
But Churchill led the coelition government that commissioned the welfare state.

I agree a Conservative government would have been less likely to have implemented all of the Post war changes to the extent Attlee did, but to paint a black/white good/bad blue/red picture (like in the OP) is silly and deliberately misleading.

Well I doubt 'deliberately' because I doubt the OP was aware of the facts and Blackpool's involvement 😁

Doesn't change the fact of what I said though. All that hatred in you can't be good for you or all those close to you.

The Beveridge Report was chaired by a Liberal. It was commissioned by a national Government and its findings were largely implemented, after the war, by the first peacetime, electorally endorsed Government - which was Labour. All this is history. Be proud of whatever part of it you find uplifting. However, using it to try and browbeat posters is a complete waste of time.

To quote the late, lamented Harry Leslie Smith, who probably knew a bit about these matters:

“In November our nation remembers her fallen soldiers and honours the lost youth of my generation, the Prime Minister, and government leaders affix paper poppies to their lapels and afford the dead of war two minutes’ silence. Afterwards they speak golden platitudes about the struggle and heroism of that time. Yet the words they speak are meaningless because they have surrendered the values my generation built after the horrors of the Second World War”

Oh yes the supposed intellectual superiority of those on the left. This lecturing and talking down to people you don't agree with ko really must stop - it loses left leaning parties elections and make you personally rather unpopular. Come out of the leftie bubble (or is it the blob) and join the rest of us Tory Voting, Football Watching tabloid reading scum - once you have lost your prejudices you find you might start to enjoy yourself!

It wasn't simply the creation of the welfare state by labour that was significant, it was the means they took to do it.

I could be wrong because I haven't got the memory for detail of some, but whilst the beverage report recommended many of the actions Labour took, their achievement was putting them in place decisively and within a single term.

The austerity of the post war years were combined with an astonishing investment and probably unmatched commitment to redistribution, both of land and wealth.

The left still view it as a half measure because Atlee stopped short of measure such as enforcing worker run nationalised industry and enforcement of co-op state of businesses and thus left power in the hands of da bourgeois and the state. He also stopped short of ending private education, something there was an appetite for but he personally vetoed.

I think that's broadly accurate.
