Lincoln City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 26.08.23

He was never going to get any sort of honeymoon period, but he has gone straight back to over complicating things and playing players out of position.
There are plenty that wanted him to fail and he's just falling straight into the hole that they wanted by not doing the simple things right.
Not sure I want him to fail as the repercussions are the club continues to stagnate. But he needs to understand what he is getting wrong and addressing it and we see little evidence of that.

I am not even going to watch the "highlights"', sounds like he is trying to get us to play tica taca which is boring and dangerous. and doesn't suit league 1.
Just out of interest did opposition player Danny Mandroiu impress anyone?

Ben House drew both of the penalties and caused most of the problems we had.

Mandroiu seemed good at winning free kicks and playing key passes.

i have now watched it back 4 times and guess what i have changed my mind. we have all been conned by the Lincoln player,
Marv dived in to block any cross and the player waits for Marvin to get close and literaly falls down.
I spoke to a Lincoln fan as I was leaving the ground. He said the Eky penalty was right in front of him and there was no contact.

Yes it looked a bit dodgy to me but Eki gave him the opportunity to topple over. Just stand up.

Think Steve Thompson got a bit OTT on commentary. Saturday was bad, what could go wrong did go wrong, we were a bit of a mess! But he was wall to wall negativity. Understandable in real time I guess, there were some basic issues you wouldn't expect to see.

But. The goals were 2 penalties and a deflection. We contributed to all 3 obviously but the penalties were both a bit soft. Lincoln didnt create much else. Even on a day when we were really out of sorts. Worrying for Lincoln surely. We were rock bottom. We really should finish above them.

Its not unlike the start of the 20/21 season. Things to sort out but the basis of a decent side. Work to do. This week in the market and on the training ground. After Wigan on Saturday we've two weeks without a league game. Big relaunch at home to Wycombe on 16th Sept!

Sort it out Critchley....!

Imps forum comments...

I thought Blackpool had some decent players and will be a top half side comfortably this season.

I thought Blackpool played some great football especially in the first half. That said, our game plan was clearly to allow them to have that possession without causing any real danger to ourselves.

To be fair I thought we were in for a long afternoon during the first 10 minutes or so. Blackpool looked technically good and had created a couple of chances and we were struggling to get a foothold in the game.

Blackpool were the perfect example of why possession stats are meaningless when all you do is constantly recycle the ball between your defensive line.

Blackpool could have had 12 players on the pitch and still not scored. I thought they were fairly tidy on the ball but a lot of their possession was in non-threatening areas, we fairly quickly swatted out anything of any note after the first five mins or so when they came at us. Looked a team who were trying to do the right things but couldn't quite do it. They were also very predictable - they went side to side, into midfield and out again, side to side and always ended up a) hitting CJ Hamilton on the diagonal or whacked it up front to the tallish striker to flick on, so style wise they were neither here nor there. Long story short, don't get drawn in by their possession stats. I don't think Lavery going off helped them because they had no threat in behind through the centre of the pitch then. They pressed well too but once we broke through that, their defence was all over the shop I thought and talk about kamikaze defending, what on earth are they doing for all the goals?! The first penalty was a slow motion challenge, how they let Erhahon travel so far is anyone's guess and did their guy really need to get himself sent off? House was a about to tap it in from a couple of yards?

I am not sure possession had anything to do with the game today. Blackpool had lots of chances that they missed and explains their lack of goals. Another day and we could have been two nil down.

No, to be honest it wasn't 3-0 game. Early penalty helped us a lot. They had their chances and looked like a decent team just without an executor up front but that's their problem.

That's two 3-0 wins over two of League One's fancied sides. I honestly cannot see Wycombe challenging this season but I am sure Blackpool will be close by the end of April. Not to be sneezed at.

Great win. If Blackpool learn to score, they’ll be play offs. Thought they were quite good and created some great chances.
