Lincoln in the Final, Predictions

I'm slightly pleased we don't have Sunderland. I think that although we beat them home and away by the odd goal they would have had an intensity in the final. Lincoln have twice come back at us this season and I think we will have learned that lesson well. I'm always on the fence in one off games . . . But I'm not as worried as what I would have been facing a wounded beast that is Sunderland. I feel like we owe Lincoln after the sending off and throwing away a 2 goal lead. But that game at Sincil Bank in '92 when we were robbed of automatic promotion with 2 dodgy penalty decisions against us still rankles!

Up the mighty 'Pool! 🍊

We are certainly in with a decent shout, but as with any knockout game, the team who gets it right on the day usually wins. I'm totally biased, but realistic enough to think it's anybody's to win or lose. We can do it, I believe.

They are a good side and over the 2 legs deserve to be in the final. They have a lot more about them going forward than Sunderland and are certainly a more positive side. It will be a tight game but one we can win if we handle the occasion and play to our potential.

Will be a much more entertaining game than watching us getting kicked and elbowed off the pitch by Sunderland.
I feel we should have taken 6 points off Lincoln this season, but as they showed second half yesterday they are a good football side, Rogers and McGrindles are both threats.

I would imagine it will be a good game with both teams playing the right way, it will be an intense affair , and hopefully we will come out on top , it’s a shame about the ticket allocation but there’s not much we can do about that . UTMP

My gut tells me Lincoln
There’s always one!
Doncaster, Bristol Rovers, Oxford with Bradford game mentioned a 100 times. Even doubters on the Weather if the game would be played.

We are on top form and am glad we are playing Lincoln.
Sunderland had chances in both legs and a fluke goal gave Lincoln a 2 goal lead.
Lincoln should have been 4-0 down at halftime.
Hands up though for the second half performance yesterday.
A bit likeYeovil did at Notts Forest.

Really difficult to predict, as we're two closely matched teams I think. We haven't beaten them this season but I don't think those games were a true reflection of us. In the first we had started the season poorly, were playing without confidence and it was before we signed Dougall, Stewart, Ballard and Simms - all likely starters on Sunday. In the match at Sincil bank, Lincoln were in a position to make a string of subs to change the game, and our only attacking option on the bench was Brad Holmes - straight from the youth side. So we just weren't in a position to respond to their changes at all.

So I think while Lincoln are clearly a good side and it'll be close, our own situation is very different now than it was when we played both league games.

Lincoln are decent and Appleton makes positive changes, did it yesterday at half-time and the game changed, didn’t see the same threat from Sunderland.

At least Embleton can play though, hopefully it’s just like DJ in 2010.

My heart agrees with this .. just need to give my head a wobble!

Visited Lincoln many times for Xmas Market,Sausage Festival etc and really enjoy the place but next Sunday i hopefully will be in London celebrating.

Personally, I’d see it as a real 50:50 game involving 2 evenly matched teams. A big plus for us would be having Sullay or CJ fit to boost the attacking options. A bench of Moore, Gabriel, Mitchell or Anderson, Ekpiteta, Thornily, Kaikai/CJ and the Machine would mean a very strong squad with a lot of options.

I think we'll have enough to win the game, but I think it's going to be a very tight match.
I would have preferred to play Sunderland, the reason being that, of the other 3 play off teams, I feel Lincoln are the team most likely to set up to stop us playing. I'd rather play a team who come at us in a more open game.

I think Appleton will learn from the Sincil Bank game where we went 2-0 up due to our superiority. In the 2nd half he packed the midfield and they got back into the game. I think he'll put 5 across the midfield and support the full backs to try to prevent us playing to Simms and Yates in the channels. Hope I'm wrong about the game but right about the result.

I think Lincoln are far more of a threat than Sunderland, I wanted them to lose yesterday.

Appleton has the ability to changes games in play with the adjustments they make and they are the best coached side, alongside us, in the division.

This will be a very close game, just hope Critchley can get a read on Lincoln to get us an early edge on them, then keep on top of Appleton's adjustments. It won't be easy.

We’ve certainly got enough to win with a strong bench despite injuries. Depends at what stage Husband gets a red.

I feared Blunderland would just thug us and probably get the result. Lincoln are much more our style.

I was happy to avoid Sunderland because in a one off game they had the players used to the big stage. Lincoln have some similarities to Blackpool with up and coming head coaches and some excellent young players in Rogers, Johnson and Poole. We have Simms, Ballard, Gabriel and now Embleton who match up well but also the experience of Maxwell, Husband, Stewart and Dougall. It all comes down to the performance on the day. I think it will be tight and hopefully we'll be practicing penalties all week.

In the last game, we dominated for 60mins but lacked any attacking options on the bench. It seems to be Appleton's strategy to bring on attacking options and try and win the game in the final 30mins of the game when the other team is tired. Hopefully we will have Gary Madine, and Anderson/Mitchell to bring on, but we could have Kai Kai and maybe even Ward as well if we are lucky.

My only concern with having now watched Blackpool live is that with both Embleton and Mitchell in the team is that with playing Husband at centre-half we are lacking in height at defending set-pieces. We have only Dougall, Simms and Ballard that are 6ft and above in the current team.

I think the togetherness in the squad will see us win this one, but it will be tight.
Embo will probably return to his boyhood club but want to leave on a high. And when he gets dropped as, they will not play to his strengths, we can pick him up for next to nothing in Jan

Too close to call. Hope we practice penalties. Rather have faced Sunderland as they are SHITE

It’s going to be a really tough game and it’s going to take a great effort to beat Lincoln. They’ve shown in the games against us and Sunderland that they never give up!

Will we have players to make a genuine impact off the bench? We didn't have much of an attacking threat on the bench last Friday. Madine has looked off the pace in his recent cameos, unsurprisingly. Kaikai has been out for a few games now too. Appleton seems to not start with his strongest XI so that he can win games late on with big impact subs. We don't seem to be able to change games that way, we start our strongest XI and rely on them to get the job done. On occasions we have started with Yates or Simms on the bench. Which might be an option on Saturday, keep some big artillery back to finish the job in the last 30 minutes.

Perhaps our fortunes will depend to s fair degree on our 6 man spine. Will Yates and Simms thrive on the Wembley turf? Will Dougall and Stewart control the middle? Will Ballard be fully fit and, crucially, will Husband avoid disaster? If I was Appleton I'd have players running at him and getting in his personal space, and I'm sure he will do that. There's a case for Thorniley.

Apprehensive. We only took 1 point off them in the league. They seem to have the ability to make effective changes in the 2nd half and that has cost us in both games.
Hopefully Critch has learned from those two games and has some ideas on how to make effective changes if things aren't going to plan.
I think that maybe Thorniley should be starting ahead of Husband, I love Husbands commitment and passion but I'd rather have it in reserve on the bench.

You’re gut needs to shut the fuck up
Why because someone has a different feeling or prediction fuck off
no need for that Limerick I’m not having a go at you I just want to fill my head with good vibes- pity I can’t say this to you personally as I meant no offence but words on a message board don’t express your tone of voice- not having a go at you just having a go at your gut!

We’ve lost to them, we’ve drawn against them , now this time we beat them. Close game but we’ll come out 2-1 winners with Jerry Yates scoring in the last 10 minutes to take us up.

I didn't want Sunderland as their fans would have taken over things ala West Ham, also it would have meant they would have turned round the game v Lincoln and gained momentum.
As for Lincoln, they are a young team so hopefully overawed and I rate Appleton's ability to change things around.
Still think we have far too much for them .3.0 Pool.

Strange, Bullwinkle, I was just thinking the other day when they beat Sunderland, we will beat them 2-1.

Look at the results so far:
Game 1 - lost 2-3 (10 men and two penalties);
Game 2 - Drew 2-2, so we maintained our scoring of two goals, whereas they dropped from 3 to 2;
Game 3 (Wembley) - we retain out two goals scored, they drop from 3 to 2 to 1, therefore 2-1 to the Pool.

Not very scientific, but hopefully correct. so far they have had luck on their side and so long as we can maintain our pressure through the second half and stop them running riot in the final half-hour we should be OK.
