Luton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 23.04.22

When you compare any of the teams we’ve played this season against how we played in our promotion year or the year we went back down the gap in quality is staggering Not to mention entertainment value. We’d have wiped the floor with most of this seasons lot.
Has the standard of football really dropped so much over the years or is it just my tangerine tinted specs.
The standard of football has definitely dropped over the last 10 years, In my opnion

A well earned point in my book, up against 11 players plus three officials. The Ref has my surname and after that performance, I feel like altering it by deedpole. How the man can fall for some of the theatrics from Luton's No 20, yet book CJ for simulation when his legs were clearly taken from under him. Also there were two occasions where Luton players boots were at head height, but nothing was said or done.

How, they are where they are defies logic, if that was a good performance by them.

As for SKY, enough has already been said. Poor broadcasting.

Just listened to it on TTV. He thought we were the better side and that the goal they had disallowed came from a free kick that wasn't a free kick plus he said we should have had a second penalty.

When is the last time we played last three teams in a row at the end of the season?
After watching that I'm even more confused about the best way to play in the championship. Fulham and Bournemouth have the extra quality and I thought Forest Mk2 under Cooper look a decent team but after that......well they're all much of a muchness. I kept hearing that Luton have been hit by injuries but that is the situation that most teams are in at this point of the season. Critch being Critch he changed the starting line up after a 6-1 win and brought back Madine for Lavery but I could see why against a physical Luton team who play for set-pieces.

It's going to be an interesting summer with various coming and goings but we do need that step up in quality throughout the team.

Happy with a point, I thought our Pen wasn’t a pen but the ref missed one on Bowler, and Keshi could of been punished for one . All in all I thought it was a fair result. I don’t fancy Luton in the play offs, they look well short of what’s needed.

I bought a Now TV 24 hour pass. All I can say is I'm glad I don't subscribe to Sky. Their narrative today was 'Luton and the play-off place'. OK, that's reasonable but no Blackpool interviews at the end? The closing summaries from the pundits were one-sided...what about the Bowler penalty decision? GRRR!

Yeah, and I paid £11.99 for that.

OK, I've been through the thread. I don't believe we deserved to win. Why? Because we don't get shots on target; we don't trouble the keeper.
CJ performed an excellent piece of skill then skied it. Anderson's free-kick was rubbish. It was crying out for Connolly. Madine wasn't quick enough to stuff that a striker has one chance to get to. These things make a big difference. Kirk wasn't at the races. We really do have to address this problem. If we can crack it, we might be unplayable next season. If we don't, lower mid-table will beckon.

Watching those highlights on Quest I'd say Luton's late goal clearly should have stood. I didn't think their penalty shouts were penalties. And I don't think ours were either. If any of them were, it was Bowler's. But he went down very easily.

I think that all means we lost 2-0. 😮

Tin hat time.

I’d put it as ‘calling in a debt’ today after some of this season’s officiating misdemeanours. 😉

So a great day out
A battling performance after unfortunate start
Lotsof fringe/wanabees players trying to impress
The ref from Hades — never liked Us from the 1st Minute
A No 22 for LT who committed more fouls than any Pool player has all this season
Their players were Angels and got no yellows v our picky 4 yellows
C J Hamilton was good
We totallywrecked their season — they got two key injuriesand didn’t deserve more than a point
9,500, The Premium League —u r havin a laff
Rode ourluck at times but gave them plenty to think about

Could of or could have?

Both our Penalty Shouts were clear cut... CJ's trailing leg was caught and bowler had put the ball through the defenders legs before he was scythed down.

For the Luton Penalty shout Anderson had made contact with the ball... You can see the direction of the ball change slightly, before he and Snodgrass made contact... Not a sniff that was a penalty and you could tell that by how Snodgrass diverted the conversation when asked about the penalty shout in his post match interview.

Their last goal was questionable, but the ref blew up very early and arguably Connolly pulled up on the whistle.

When I watched Quest I saw it all differently. Better close ups. I disagree with you, but we all see things differently. These decisions are tricky of course.

Fair play… I’ve run it in slow mo and paused etc.. on sky, but not seen Quest.

It’s not like we’re not due the right end of a decision or two regardless.

just watched the game cos i missed it yesterday. we didnt have the penetration that we had against brum. played a lot more long balls which as always are hit and miss, we lacked movement, beesley with lavery or jerry might have caused the LT defence a lot more problems. though CJ had a decent game, great run for the penalty, had a couple of other chances, the shot sent over for a throw in, great vision and pass from Anderson, superb take down and movement by CJ just as he hit it is took a little bobble. thought the Anderson Dougall partnership worked reasonably well, but the lack of front lin emovement stimied opportunities in the final third. I think Lavery or jerry may have had a field day against LT.

shite reffing, so many bizarre decions. the late goal was probably good if im being honest, keogh was badly caught out. But the bowler pen appeal, the booking for CJ. Dont think the ref was biased he was just shit.

And finally, Luton Town a playoff side, you really are having a laugh. I know they have a few players out but they were terrible. i'd almost like to see them go up just to see a PL team get less than three points all season.

This from the Gazette:

"When asked if Luton’s first goal could have been ruled out for offside by BBC Radio Lancashire...."

Strange, were Radio Lancs refereeing the match? Standards of English in local journalism really are hitting the floor.
