Luton v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 23.04.22

Not even slightly. More possession, more shots, more corners. Luton zero corners in fact. And some of the weirdest reffing I've ever seen.
Yep a draw and we didn't even have much quality final 3rd today and nothing to play for in the league.

How did you get on against them? @Giro

On the subject of the ‘unusual’ decisions by the ref, they mentioned he had done some Prem games this season.

I wonder if the thought of VAR/ no VAR had a bearing on their penalty, our 2nd penalty and the Luton goal at the end.

Watched the game. Thought we played really well. If anyone deserved to win we did. Blatant pen on Bowler. And bullshit yellow for CJ. But then they could have had a pen too. What a shithouse team Luton are though. Horrible to watch.

What a joke that ref was. We should have had another pen, they should have had a pen and they should have had a goal at the end there. Don't even know what to say about CJ getting a yellow for simulation, their man completely took him out. Absolute shocker.
There were a few more questionable ones too. Near the end their player blatantly kicked the ball over the line and he or the linesman gave them a throw.

It was an incompetent display today.

At the start of the season we got bullied by Cardiff and looked powder puff. Today Luton that have bullied all teams at home, didn’t get the better of us physically and were lucky to get a point.

That’s progress Jord. It’s not always about playing one touch fifa football. You’ve got to maximise what you can with the options available. Plenty to be positive about for next season. We are a proper Championship side.

It was a battling performance and at times we played well through the middle but overall lacked final 3rd quality.

We were the better team and deserved to win but they were clearly nervous and wanted to protect a one goal lead, they will stumble to the play offs and get knocked out in the semi's or may not even make the play offs at all.

We are ending the season well and some good signings in the summer and we can certainly push for the top 6 next season. Special mention for Kenny I thought he was excellent today. Marv has to be my player of the season.

Exactly this.
The amount that we have improved under Critchley is immense. It is worth remembering how much our squad, which can compete at this level, actually cost in comparison to the others. Hamilton is improving, the guy has destructive pace, I am looking forward to watching him next season.

yep that was a weird one. He basically dribbled it out.

He just needs to be a bit more composed, that right foot finish after great work nearly cleared the stadium to the right hand side, should have hit the target, he was only about 100 feet off... close 😬

And the one pen he did give was a dive! Just incompetent all game really.

They went down at every opportunity, as they did at Bloomfield Road. It's about time referees gave us some respect.
The first goal was due to Husband being too slow and on the wrong side. The "foul" against Keough we got for a change , having said that , too slow !!!!
Just watching their manager though..... what an absolute walker complaining about everything .

I enjoyed the second half a bit more; we have the same issue we've had all season and that's taking the chances we create. It's a shame we don't have that clinical sure to our game but considering they are 4pts from guaranteeing a play off spot; it's a cracking result.

The officials had a peculiar game but they were inconsistent which didn't particularly favour either side - just a bit rubbish.

Beyond that, it's another good away performance.

Listening to these muppets on sky, our penalty wasn’t one, they should have had at least one and the goal at the end should have stood. WE WERE THE BETTER TEAM, MORE POSSESSION, MORE SHOTS, MORE TOUCHES IN THE PENALTY AREA.

And the all important higher XG😉

I thought so too. Image of their manager. Campbell and the Meatballs. Did they even get a player booked? Bizarre, ref, determined not to give them any cards.

That was one of the most one sided broadcasts I’ve ever seen. I know Luton are going for the playoffs but the narrative they were robbed is completely false and the coverage by sky of it was out of order. Didn’t even discuss our performance after the game let alone interview anyone from Blackpool. No surprise given their reticence to show us live this season. Jones’ interviews before and after the game laughable. Anyone would think we chose to play 4 up front today for the first time just to piss them off 😂

Poor from the Sky team at the end, all about poor old Luton, almost nothing about Blackpool’s chances and 2nd penalty shout, not even time for a word with NC 🤬😡🤬

Shocking Ref, books KD and then lets it all go thereafter, good value for our point. Love how that team all fight for the shirt.

No, if you watch the arm, that was a push on Keogh. A draw was a fair result.

What a prick there manager is. We outplayed them for the majority of the game and he dosent mention the penalty we should have had. I'd love to smack the annoying little Welsh **.
I gather you re not a fan. I don't hold an opinion on him as a person, don't know the bloke.
Regardless of your personal take on him, he's done a cracking job with Luton. Veery much along our lines. Adebayo is a beast, decent touch for a big man and scores freely. They've spent about £3.5 million or so this season.. About twice as much as us but.. Second lowest spenders in the Championship. I don't begrudge Luton being in the playoff places. Good luck to them. Nobody gave us an earthly so let the smaller clubs have their moments.

When you compare any of the teams we’ve played this season against how we played in our promotion year or the year we went back down the gap in quality is staggering Not to mention entertainment value. We’d have wiped the floor with most of this seasons lot.
Has the standard of football really dropped so much over the years or is it just my tangerine tinted specs.

Good point today and amazing that our last three games are against the bottom three, two down already and the other almost down. We need to go for all nine points and finish ahead of PNE. Come on Blackburn on Monday.

I've been thinking the same thing.
