Lyons off

Yes, got to remember the LoI Premier is a summer league and is over half way through. Shamrock Rovers have a healthy lead and by the end of the transfer window could have it all wrapped up and may be more eager to sell. There may still be life in this deal towards the end of the window.
And throw in a friendly next year (or during World Cup break) into the deal and get it done! Would love a trip over to Dublin🍻

You loan out or list players who don't make the cut, this is what happens at every other club.

What kind of transfer policy is 'well we already have a player in that position'?
Happy to loan players, out and could probably name 4 or 5 ,but surely that has to happen at the same time as buying in a better replacement unless you have a lot of spare capacity in the squad.
If you compare out of contract this year to next year someone has F*ucked up and we are horsetrading this year, but potentially having a major rebuild next

This could all be a negotiating position, Shamrock are holding out for £500,000, BFC value him closer to £200,000, we say "we're looking elsewhere" and Shamrock will end up with £0 and an unhappy player to boot, either Shamrock soften their position or we move for someone else (perhaps on loan), and maybe come back in for him next summer when his contract is almost expired.
Why should Shamrock soften their position when we’re demanding a big fee for Bowler with just 12 months of his contact left and demanding £3m for Gabriel?
I’am pretty dam sure Rovers and Dingles fans are saying the same about our position on these players.
It’s a business why should any club let players go on the cheap?

But this misses the point completely doesn’t it? Fans are rightly pointing out that we started last season without a right back and it cost us. Even if we bring one in this week which we’re being assured will happen, this player has 6 days to integrate into the squad?

This should have been addressed as a clear weak point and rectified. The anger being felt atm isn’t necessarily a result of losing this particular player, it’s a result of us seemingly dithering around and constantly missing out on players as a result.

Appleton is under so much pressure from fans, and the club needs a good start to ease the negativity that is present right now. I don’t see that happening with this current squad, and even if we bring one or two in this week, there’s no reason it should have taken this long.

It’s been a bad window so far, and anyone denying that is frankly deluded.

If we didn't think he was Championship standard then why did we bid for him? And why haven't we just offered the 350k. All very peculiar.

Maybe the club is willing to settle for less than Championship standard for a backup player with the chance to improve, and who knows what the club has offered?

Let's be honest here, we need RB, LB, LW and a box to box MF minimum before the transfer window closes. The RB and LB are the top priority and we could do with them before Saturday. If the club delivers on them, then happy days, but if they don't then I really think that questions need to be asked imo. I'm gonna sit back and wait as patiently as I can and just hope we get the players we need.

Not saying it’s ideal and agree it’s been a disappointing window so far. Was just pointing out that this deal might not be as dead as a dodo!

Failed attempts to sign Brannagan, Norburn, Bishop and now Lyons. Please god let’s not start behaving like we did under the Oystons….

Brannagan, Norburn and Lyons are still at their original clubs, nobody else has been willing to pay the fee requested, so it seems to me that their clubs are being unrealistic, in Bishop's case the club was willing to meet the fee, but that broke down for unknown reasons.

If the club's losing out to other clubs simply because we're not willing to pay the fee then I'd be more worried, but if the likes of Oxford, Peterborough, Shamrock really think their players are worth £1m+ then good luck to them, and I'm happy for our club to look elsewhere.

Ultimately, Shamrock are free to stick with their valuation, and BFC are free to walk away and look elsewhere.

I think we can probably loan a better RB to cover this season, sign him up on a pre-contract next summer with a nice signing on fee, and maybe an extra £1,000 p/w for him, maybe buy him out of the last four months of his contract for a small fee, no add-ons etc, save maybe £350,000+ out of our transfer budget and end up with better players both this season and next.

Have we named the 25? If not then you get the best you can in and worry about loaning players afterwards. It's not like these are mega wages that will break the club anyway, like Sunderland for example.

It can't be one out, one in, we're not in administration.

Do not understand if he really is someone we think highly of why not buy and loan back till they are certainties to win the league which finishes anyway 4th Nov

One of our heroes whom we hoped would play yesterday for Everton was signed from Sligo Rovers for £60,000. Taking into account inflation over the past 12years or so there is no reason why not again!

Except 60k with inflation over 12 years is only around 75k or so.

All valid points to some extent but there is now a desperate need for reinforcements and anyone coming in now has no chance of bedding in time before the season starts.

I appreciate Appleton arrived late but we have had plenty of time to get a list of targets and move down the list if one doesn’t come you move to the next on the list.

Pray to God it’s a long list. 🙁

I'm sure that's what they're doing.

Ultimately, transfer negotiations are a lengthy and complex process that takes time, and if clubs are going to quote £500,000 for National League level players then a lot of transfers are going to fall through.

If we do have a dedicated group of people who are spending their time creating lists of players it seems a bit odd we haven’t delivered anyone yet who isn’t clearly an Appleton signing anyway.

I think there are questions to ask as to how well the committee are doing coming up with sensible and within budget targets that we can actually afford to recruit and whether Appleton is actually signed up to the continuity approach or not.

We got lucky last season with free agents due to clubs needing to find ways to deal with the complex financial circumstances due to covid.

There's a smaller pool of players to choose from this time, so prices are gauged by supply and demand.

Work permits for international players are difficult to get unless you're playing regularly in Europe’s top 5 leagues or are a regular international for a top 50 FIFA-ranked nation. Players who can meet that are likely to be out of our price range.

So, it's back on? isn't that a cue for all those who have been calling our negotiators fit to burn to apologise?

Unfortunately no chance of that, the impatient ones on here have their agendas and much prefer to continually berate the club no matter what.

So far Simon Sadler has delivered (Championship football ahead of schedule) or is in the process of delivering (state of the art training ground, new East stand) everything he has promised, so there should be no reason to doubt his intentions! He will not want to throw away Championship football this season as it does not make business sense!

I am as frustrated with the lack of incomings as everyone but I will reserve my judgement until the end of the transfer window!

I am sure the club have a plan (Prem loans etc.), yes they will make the odd mistake but Simon definitely has the best intentions for the club and will do things in the right way and not throw money at signings they are not 100% convinced about.

UTP!! 🧡

I'll certainly hold my hands up to an extent for the original post if we do eventually land Lyons, but it doesn't change the fact that we're starting to develop a reputation for faffing about with deals (Brannagan, Norburn, Bishop, Lyons)

Would I like some new signings - yes I would. But….

Unless you are on the phone calls or in the room while these deals are being done only those that are involved actually know why things are or are not happening. End of. The lack of information coming from the club creates a nice vacuum for all of the speculation in the press, social media message boards etc and that can be fun to a point. Information warfare is where you can asymmetrically use sources, media, info to your own advantage - business is no different. And let’s not forget that there are 92+ clubs in this country and more abroad all doing the same - to greater or lesser degrees and with much smaller or larger budgets. I genuinely don’t believe people go into work to do a crap job (ok - previous owners notwithstanding) and some of the business done by the team in the past and on the current loans by the looks of them has been relatively sound.

I will reserve my judgement until we have played a few games.

Can you name one signing in this window where we've strengthened in positions where we're desperate to do so?
No you can't, and you wonder why people are moaning?
Less than 7 days to the start of the season and woefully short in a number of spots is nothing short of shambolic.
I would image Rhys James is a step up given a chance and I understand we have another 4 weeks to sign people ,

Nobody in their right mind goes after a player in one position and says 'right it's him, we're sorted and I'll put the bid in'. You always have a second and a third choice. Especially when you consider we have a recruitment department.

Indeed - just because we do not seem to be doing business does not mean we aren’t or aren’t trying unless somebody on here is totally itk - and frankly if they said they were I wouldn’t believe them. As I said the speculation can be fun to a point - as is the hyperbole thrown out by some on here. If after 5 or 6 games there is a clear, causal, link between performances and recruitment then criticism is justifiable.

Trouble is when the window slams shut we are 15% through the season- 21 points.

I'm not entirely sure why who he plays for is an issue and why he wouldn't make the step up.
If you use that argument, Peterborough would never have made multi millions from, Boyd, Makail - Smith, McLean, Gayle, Asombalonga, etc etc, if they'd followed that scouting outlook.

Not sure about name spellings....soz
I see your point ,but I am not sure how much was paid for these players in the first place . I think they all proved themselves at the higher level before big money was passed.

Yes absolutely true, but the premise being used by many is that our current squad is not good enough to get any of those points. Is it not? I don’t know - we haven’t played A league game yet. Each to their own opinion.

Rhys Williams.

(Reece) James was one of the signings last summer who has just been made available for transfer and gone out on loan for the season.

You do but on this one I wonder if anyone at our end has actually been over to Ireland to watch him first? Seems like a lot of faff to start scattergunning the LOI unless you're absolutely sure on someone.
....and if you're sure then you land him. He should have been snared a week ago then the injury they have wouldn't be an issue.

You would presume wrong. Of course we have to negotiate, but we aren’t very good at it recently are we. If we want something we have to pay for it. If not, look somewhere else, not keep trying to pay less.
We seem to have budgeted for B&M's and are still looking for the reduced stickers. SS seems to have cut the strings. 🤨

Were we a bit presumptuous sending Reece James out on loan so early to the massive.

Moore looks good at RB, plus JG is still with us. Williams, Tharme, Thornily, Husband, CUR, Marv. PLus Connolly who I agree would be my pref at CDM. Bowler and JG - Burnley & Blackburn is rumour. Reckon we've enough in defence. Midfield for sure and perhaps upfront is more important.
