Madine v Martin

Probably fair to say that they're both in the twilight of their careers. Both have had big moves, similar careers in many ways and are similar style of players on the pitch.

However, after watching them both yesterday it's clear that one has the right attitude and the other doesn't.

Not once did I look at Martin as a threat whereas if I were a Bristol fan, I'd definitely consider Madine a threat and a key person in the side.

Whether that's entirely down to the player or whether their respective managers have input I'm not sure but I'm just glad that we seem to be getting the best out of our centre forward whereas Bristol seemingly aren't.

Long may the Blackpool FC Madine career continue!

Didn't realise Martin was playing. No threat at all.

Down to the coach players want to give their all for Critch and on the other side you've got Pearson who is past his sell by date and career is on the downward slide.

I’ve always thought Martin as a decent striker and he scored for them at their place, but he was nowhere to be seen yesterday at all very poor and Weiman wasn’t much better. Yet on the Brizzle site they’re slagging Gaz Goals off for being overweight with a bit of a gut on him, and perhaps that’s what one of their players said before Gaz put the head on him!😉

As it stands Madine is doing well and based on yesterday he'd be more of an asset than Martin. But without looking it up, I'd say Martins goalscoring stats would be much better than Madines.

I think Gaz is just as important to the team whether he scores or not. His hold up play, lay offs, heading ability and shithousery, when required are second to none. I would like to know how many goals we, as a team, have scored when he has played as opposed to when he hasn’t.

I think that td53 could give you that info in an instant

I look at Madine now and he’s much fitter & slimmer than when he joined us. Also seems to be enjoying his time at Blackpool which is showing in his performances.

As it happens, Martin has scored 3 more goals this season than Goal Machine but in terms of overall contribution and nuisance factor, there’s no comparison.

Considering that you'll have only watched Brizzle twice this season I feel you won't be able to assess Martin's overall contribution for City

Madine by a very long way. Fearlessly takes the game to the opposition and contributes to the team in a number of positive ways. Was essential last season when we needed experience and leadership and remains integral to the team and squad now.

Thought Brizzle lacked height throughout their team and we bullied them aerially like we were bullied a few times early on in the season. Probably the shortest team we played this year (and De Silva by far the shortest player I've seen this year) and Critch had obviously identified that hence Madine starting and the ball being played long a lot more than normally.

For a player with a bit ofa gut and overweight he certainly turned a hell of a bit of speed on a few occasions yesterday, much faster than any of their defenders.

Martin and Keogh were having a good old chat in the first half during a break in play. Assume they were reminiscing about their Derby days.

Martin dived to win a pen for Derby v Pool when Ince was manager. Ince called him a diver In after game comments.

anyone slagging Gary Madine off need to either give their heads a wobble ,or stop watching Blackpool as both him and Richard Keough have been both outstanding at what they do (think about it,i said what they do and are good at )for me at their age have given everything they could every time they have put the shirt on for us good luck to both off them for the rest of the season.

So far this season (in all competitions):

Madine doesn't start (if he played it was off the bench)
Games: 17
Goals: 18

Madine starts
Games: 15
Goals: 20

So the stats do suggest we score more with him in the team. You do have to take into account that when Madine plays we almost always have two up front, as opposed to one up front in Jerry or Lavery.

Which 1) proves my point about Gaz and 2) proves we are better with 2 up front than 1. 👍

Madine and Keogh aren't stupid. They know that they are late into their careers and they also know that they are reaping the benefits of playing well in a forward looking Championship team. Not for them the slide down the leagues into anonymity. Long may they keep it up too.
