La Fontana was a big, double fronted restaurant, almost opposite the Bispham Hotel.

Always ate at La Fontana on Clifton St, La Piazza at Ceder Sq and Red bank Rd next to Blacktax. There was a double fronted Italian opp Bispham Hotel, Don Antonio. Il Corsaro was my fave.

Stuffed mushrooms and lasagne at Mammas. Never needed the menu👍
I once (or maybe more than once) had stuffed mushrooms for starter and stuffed mushrooms (starter size) for main course they were soooo good
Think they called them Funghi Ripieni or sommat like that 😋

Mammas and the Akash Indian also on topping street were my go to places late 80’s and 90’s
The latter is still open

Went to Allegrias a few weeks ago. It was actually pretty good.
Did you manage to get served in a reasonable time and did you get exactly what you ordered for each course?
If you did I'd probably agree, the food was pretty good but the service was chaotic.

I played for IAS in Macclesfield, we played against Mammas in the North West Champions cup
Rox, Shootz and i had this conversation further up the thread, I'm pretty sure you played for us in the two games we played v IAS Macclesfield, we won at home and they won away, we took a coach away and enjoyed a few post match scoops on our way home.

i can say nobody in my team was semi - pro. Bandy was spotted playing in the final by Mike Mckenzie and went to him at Hyde United. I do know that the team we played in the final were stocked with semi pro players and it was quite a surprise we won , i was especially pleased on a personal level as i bagged the winner in a 3-0 victory..😉
Was that the game we played against you in Gorton - sunny day on an astroturf pitch ?

I was in the “Italian Orchard” last night. Well worth a visit.
Arrived for the booking at 6.30pm but when we left, it was rammed!

No, the game I played was in bollington, we won 5-4 or 4-3 and went on to win it all against Grey Horse, massive upset as we were a small league in Cheshire.

It is a shame for the new owners, but timing is everything, and obviously, with the big increase in the cost of food and energy plus the
opening of the big food court nearby they obviously struggled to make it pay. Restaurants have one of the highest failure rates
of any business and even the most successful restaurants rarely last, I can only think of Tiggis in St Annes which is still doing well
from the 80s and they had difficult times when they expanded.

Used to go to the akash, Sammy was the waiter great food 👍
that was before we left early 2000’s

Surprised they haven't tried to buy back & reopen at the old San Marco's on Lytham Rd as the last effort by someone inexperienced that failed miserably left the building refurbished & empty. Perhaps it was down to cost & potential custom in a fairly saturated area. Granted it's a big unit, but it seemed to do pretty well pre Covid. It's a risky business I guess. Can't see us using the old Mamma's/San Marco's much as we rarely venture into town these days as there's no need with what's available locally.

Re Italiani had a terrible reputation for awful food. My son went there with my granddaughter and they didn’t have any spaghetti for a carbonara so they served it with penne it was disgusting too. Not surprised it closed soon after opening!

my bro was head chef at La Piazza on RBR for years. I did two weeks there washing up in 1990.. Never again !

Quick recommendation for Amaro on the corner of Church Street and Leopold Grove. Tables quite close together but it gives a good vibe. Last eat there after the Peterborough disappointment, it took the edge off. Good food and vfm.

Yeah that would have been good as it was great there some years back.

But at least something has taken the mammas one.

There's quite a few in town, not as convenient to go to obviously, but with 1 pound parking for 3 hours up until Xmas, people could take advantage of that.

Some good places in town to try for a change.
