Management rumour from BBC website

My 2 lads are Bolton fans, they tell me the football is dire. Evatt’s team selections, formations, tactics and substitutions surprise even the staunchest of Bolton supporters. Evatt has signed loads of players but very few of them have been successes.

Remembered this post while thinking about how good a job Evatt is doing. How do they feel about him now, having smashed Barnsley and Portsmouth 3-0 since your post?

I wanted us to appoint Evatt when Grayson was sacked but iirc the club decided he wasn't experienced enough and then appointed Critchley, zero management experience. Who did a great job, and so we replace him with Appleton, lots of experience but limited ability and no feel for the club.

Evatt just seemed the obvious choice at the time. And I think what's happened since bears that out. Opportunity lost.

This wouldn’t happen due to the CEO’s ego at the Club.

If it started to go wrong, it wouldn’t be a fan favourite that got the blame it would be him. Considered appointments so far, but cleverly protecting himself.

That’s how we’ve changed the recruitment team and he’s still here.

I don't know about any of that but we looked a gift horse in the mouth and went elsewhere. I have several mates who support Bolton and I work in Bolton one day a week and Evatt has won everybody over. Part of that is his loyalty. He's made some mistakes but his team keeps improving and he really believes in what he is doing and where he is going. Since he went into management his teams have only improved. He won't move to us at this moment in time. And he may not wish to work in the future for people who overlooked him when he was interested for spurious reasons.

i don’t know for sure, just heard a few bits and seeing how it’s played out.

Evatt has had his moments though with their fanbase. Forest Green away defeat he was getting pelters. They seem like they are going the right way now though.

I know. Evatt is very strong headed and has had spats with players. But he has turned those moments round. And Bolton keep getting better, as did Barrow. Neither club could afford to spend much.

Yes after a couple of good results, albeit Barnsley only had 10 players for most of the game, they think Bolton should now make the Play Offs, however there is a big game away at Derby next week. The jury is still out on Evatt, lots of players have been signed but very few of them are playing consistently well. Star player Afolyan looks like he is leaving this month and there has been a fall out with at least one other senior player. Evatt’s team selections, tactics particularly at home and late substitutions are still an issue as is the ongoing problem when the opposition score first. Arguably the minimum requirement for Evatt is to reach the Play Offs this season so lets see where he is in May.

Regarding the appointment of any future Blackpool manager I think the Club needs to spread the net far wider than a small pool of former players. Some contributors on here seem over obsessed with former players becoming the next Blackpool manager with names including Evatt, Adam and Dobbie all recently put forward to replace Appleton, none of whom in my opinion are anywhere near ready at the moment to manage a struggling Blackpool team in the Championship. I am aware I will probably receive the usual “ any appointment would be better than Appleton “ responses but I think Appleton will still be Blackpool Manager at the end of this season.

He probably will, if not for any other reason than Sadler after lecturing us for doubting the wisdom of his appointment is now too stubborn to get rid. He and the board haven’t even got the bottle to make a statement about the immediate prospects of the current manager, one way or the other. Whether it’s the dreaded vote of confidence or to say he’s here for the foreseeable, just say something, anything. They are quick enough to inform the fanbase when they find another way to squeeze more money out of us.

Views like this will be widespread the longer the disconnect between Manager and fans and also the board and fans is allowed to continue due to what amounts effectively to “macho posturing”

A look at the table shows they are fifth. I can live with that kind of failure

Evatt should have been in from the start but they kept ignoring him and have totally fucked it up. Sadler hasn't got a ** clue about football, hero my arse the blokes a half wit! Just because he's got money and is a Blackpool supporter doesn't make him a good owner, we are cursed with shit owners, when will it ever end?

Not sure you're on the right track here. Does Appleton need to be sacked? Yes, ASAP, and hopefully that happens. This was clearly a mistake and all owners make them but Simon has bought the club when it was on the brink and he has plans to spend an awful lot of money so let's give him some time to do that and hopefully he sacks Appleton, admits his mistake and we move on and stay appreciative.

How do you know Evatt would have come?

For some reason Mansford seems unable to sell the club to people, that's the real problem, not Sadler.

He got the club at a bargain price and I'm not sure he thought it through. The people who should be lauded for our saviour was VB and Clifford Chance and even more so our supporters and NAPM along with BST. He plans to invest lots of money, I'll believe it when I see it and how he finds the funds and what his motives actually are. I appreciate what he's done off the pitch so far but the honeymoon period is well and truly over and he may be a brilliant hedge fund manager but I don't think he has the nous to be a football club owner.

He applied for the job and didn't even get an interview, how can he not even of got an interview? He would have jumped at the chance and would still be here now, but there is absolutely zero chance of getting him now.

Evatt is irrelevant, he’s been snubbed once, plus he’s in with a chance of getting Bolton promoted to the championship. Why would he swap that for a club possibly going down.

I wonder if Mansford made sure Evatt didn't get an interview to leave the path clear for his friend Michael Appleton

But already calling him a half wit and saying that he is a poor owner? Yes, we are in a bad situation right now and Appleton needs sacking but you went too far. I think you're anger is directed at the wrong place. Get Appleton out and some decent players in and we will be back on track.

You are probably right I'm just so pissed off with our history of awful owners I don't trust anyone anymore. We need a lift and I'm sad to say the only way we are going to get it now is with the departure of MA but the hunt for his replacement cannot be like previous searches.

I agree with you there. The sooner he is out the better. The club seems to have acknowledged that recruitment hasn't gone to plan previously and brought in the guys from Coventry. Hopefully they are also proactive in getting rid of the manager and have a decent replacement lined up. Somehow, I don't feel like that's the case even though 95% of fans can see it needs changing. Hopefully they surprise me with an announcement today.
