Marriott's goal yesterday

Could not believe that goal and simply don't understand what the centre halves were doing. A cross into the box which finds Marvin at the near post marking no-one, and Casey at the far post marking no-one. Marriott, meanwhile, is between the two with two yards of space either side. I only used to play local football as a centre half but we were taught to mark a man TIGHT. Usually, when Pool score, we have to evade tackles or fend off more than one defender. We just served up the three middle goals on a plate to Peterborough. I'm both gobsmacked and angry.

Yet you would have started with him. Good job he didn't otherwise we might have let more in 😉🤣
It is more than likely to suggest he is our player of the season. Perhaps he wasn't fully fit! But there again why would Critch put him on the bench if he wasn't. When are these internationals anyway, seeing as we've released player[s[ early for? Did they have to report last week or something? Have all the other clubs had to do the same or are you just making excuses for Critchs team selection again?😉

No, as I explained earlier, the internationals are at the end of May, early June. Lavery and Dougall are on holiday now as they won't get a break after the internationals as we're back in training on June 20th.

Long term thinking as opposed to short termism leading to burn out later.

yeh Marv didnt have his best of days when he came on.

I thought we were cut open far too easily all game really with the through balls from Poku and Ricky Jade Jones. Connolly out of position down the right.

So as you acknowledge Critch wasn't interested in the result then..

I don't think Connolly is that bad. The problem was CJ gives him zilch support so he was often left 1 on 1 or 1 on 2
He's not what you'd call a natural fullback but he gives his all. I'd much rather see hin in midfield cutting opposition players in half. Our season went awry broadly coincided with Sterling leaving and Jordan struggling with injuries. Vital we have proper full backs and proper full back cover next season. In the modern game it's a massively important position.

You can't blame a winger for bad defending. Sterling and Gabriel would of made a massive difference in recent games had they been available.

Once again you conflate two separate issues. Make sure players don't burn out and put out the best team you can aren't mutually exclusive.

You're implying his pre match talk was fuck it, I don't want us to win this game.

no, I'm implying that he didn't select his strongest squad for the game and by doing that it made the chance of us getting a result less likely. And so it proved. Like I said is there another team that has let players go away early for a break? You are making excuses for him. You or Insy openly state that Marv said he was available for both the last two games and you also state that Bowler was told he was playing. So was Critch lying. Is Bowler who hasn't played for 3 games fatigued?.Make all the excuses you want, Critch had at least four other first team players if he'd considered the match important enough to want to give us the best chance of winning the game. He didn't!

You say there were no excuses for that performance yet you seem to have trotted out a great many in defence of it and Critchleys team/squad selection.

You said he wasn't interested. That means he didn't care. These 4 available players? Who are they? Marv maybe. The other three?

Bowler, Lavery and Dougall. Critch chose to make them not available but could they have played? Of course they could. If promotion or relegation had hinged on the match they would have been there. He chose for them not to be so clearly the match wasn't important to him. It was a constant topic of discussion for months on here about us coming above the nobbers. You know that! Critch clearly didn't give the fans any consideration.

Difficult for two of them to play when they're not in the country, while Bowler has been stated repeatedly as 'running on empty '.

You're saying Critch is a liar.

Finally, the match was utterly meaningless. Why should there be a short term approach for a game that meant nothing? If we'd won we'd still not be above Preston, so utterly meaningless, as said.

As it is, we'll have fully recharged players from the off next season, but you would prefer they were knackered so they take part in a game at London Road that meant nothing.

I'm glad you're not in charge of player welfare or strategic direction.

They are not in the country because he gave them permission to go. What part of that don't you understand? Are you saying Was Critch lying over Lubala when he said he was omitted for tactical reasons? Of course he was! You or Insy have pretty much admitted he's lied when you said Bowler was told he was playing. Look, I don't blame him for being economical with the truth but that's what it is and you just can't accept that.
Again classic deflection. The game meant a lot to the fans otherwise no-one would have gone so don't come out with shit. It was important for us to come above the nobbers and we could have won the game if he'd selected his first team players rather than choose to let them have time off before the season ended. Do other teams do that? I don't think so, so once again, you're making excuses. Of course the nobbers won but prior to the game kicking off you didn't know that so you're coming out with crap about it being meaningless. And it's a cast iron certainty that if we'd won and they'd lost you would be giving those nobbers that come on here plenty of stick.

As for fully recharged players, Bowler hasn't played for the last 3 or 4 games. And what about all the players we are going to sign? Did they have the last week off so their batteries can be recharged. Of course not! Are you saying Lavery and Dougall will feel that much better and be so much fitter for having this last week off when they've yet got to go away and train and play whilst on international duty? You don't half come up with some nonsense.

So for some-one saying no excuses you aren't half making loads of them.

Explanations not excuses but your mind is made up, so you're right and me, Insy and Critch are wrong.

As for saying people only went so we could finish above the Nobbers. Comedy gold.

nope you're making things up. It's not about being right or wrong even though you continue to level that accusation which does you no favours. You continue to avoid the point about the fact that if he wanted he could have selected Dougall, Lavery and Bowler. Explanations or excuses, the fact is he could have put out a better team than he chose to do. That's a fact.

And I didn't say that was the only reason people went. We've been safe for a couple of months now! Were all those games meaningless? Particularly the one at the nobbers. You're willingness to not open your eyes and defend at all costs is staggering. There again, it's not that long back you were saying we could make up the eight points or so to make the play offs. Watch Lee's first video to understand that it was not a "meaningless game". Not just me saying that is it? Like I said, Critch seemingly gave it no consideration.

And of course, you don't address my point about players still having to train and play games whilst on international duty. How is that benefitting BFC next season? They are not resting up then are they!!

I thought the same about Son's goal against Liverpool the other night tbh. Completely unmarked in front of goal. What were Konate and VVD doing?! 🤠

Isn’t Sammie Szmodics worth a punt in the summer? Better for him than relegation…
When I lived down south, I went regularly with a mate to watch Col U. Szmodic played for them then, and whilst he could be very good, he could equally go missing and be quite poor, and that was League 2. In my opinion he is not good enough for the championship especially if we are looking to improve on what we have.

Thanks for that. I saw him play for Col U and he was decent but only a couple of times. 👍
