Mason Mount

Does anyone really rate Mason Mount as highly as Man United (and Chelsea) who have just had an offer for £40 million turned down for him.

He’s decent but deffo not world class.

He has a good attitude and application though he works hard and doesn’t whinge and moan like a bitch.
He’s only 24 and and English so with some good coaching he can improve going into the peak years of his career.

There’s obviously something about him , but I can’t see it .
Good shot on him. He's gone backwards this last season like the whole Chelsea team has. A sort of very expensive version of the Appleton effect. In a good side he will offer more than weve seen last season.

Overrated player loved by Southgate which is why he has got as many caps as he has when others could have done better.

Massively overrated.clearly has something about him or he wouldn’t be where he is but nowhere near as good as what the media have made him out to be down the years.shouldn’t be anywhere near the England 11 with the talent we have.

1yr left on his current deal, £40M is a decent offer for someone who could walk away for nothing in 12months. Plus I think he's massively overrated.
The obvious question is why would the player agree to the move when he could walk in 12 months, and pocket most of that £40m himself?

I'm guessing he wants out of Chelsea and the wages on offer would be pretty amazing regardless. I've no doubt he'll end up at Utd.

Personally, I'd suggest he stick it out for another season there, and then go wherever he wants.

I'd also want a free transfer clause in whatever contract comes next, so if it doesn't work out he can move on.

he’ll be another manure duffer 😀…can’t see what he brings to the game myself, bang average…
They do seem to have a reputation these days for going for names with big price tags rather than the bringing through youth which they've based much of their success on.

Versatile player, a solid all-rounder. Can play a couple of roles in a midfield 3, can play behind the striker, and can play one a narrower role in a front 3. Great work rate, can pass a ball, and can strike a ball well. In a team with a coherent plan, he's be a manager's dream. Unfortunately, he's not had that the past season.

not a big fan of his. t the time he burst on to the scene there was a place for him in the England team/squad but imo we've moved on a nd got better players in his position now.

He can play well in multiple positions so I can see the attraction. The price isn't massive in todays market either. The only thing I can't work out is why Man United aren't going for world class players. How times change

As i've said above I'm much more a fan of Maddison however we need to recognise a massive factor. Maddison reminds me of Grealish when he was at Villa. He was the star man and had a licence to do what he wanted and go in search of the ball. Pretty much the same as Maddisons role now. However, Grealish joined City where it's far more about the team and he had to adapt and fit into the style and system that Pep wanted to play and it took him a while to adapt. Maddison moving to one of the big teams could well have to do the same. With Mount, he was already at the big team and his role was already clearly defined.

And in that clearly defined role all his metrics declined. Good points about Grealish and it will be interesting to watch his progress next season. With flair players you have to loosen expectations a little . What Maddison does is get tangible results so modify yes, change no as his achievements is what you want to add to your team.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign England midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea on a five-year contract for £55m, plus £5m in add-ons.

Mount, 24, will be Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer as he looks to strengthen his side following United's qualification for next season's Champions League.
Chelsea spent £600m last season and needed to sell before 30 June to ease Financial Fair Play concerns.

Classic Man United .. always the Bridesmaids these days .. Arsenal get the real prize and they make do with the leftovers.
