Match day police "baa"

Like many others I think the police on match day are pathetic and naive.
They have openly demonstrated their shortcomings by admission they can only control a limited number of away supporters.
Leaving the ground via Bloomfield Road on Saturday a police woman on horseback was advising supporters they could return to their cars/homes via the side streets parallel to Bloomers. Because supporters did not immediately react she shouted across to a horse mounted colleague next to her "baa baa baa" insinuating we were sheep. I thought I had heard wrongly at first the but unbelieving expression on the faces of pool supporters around me confirmed I heard correctly.

Lost for words ...

Report it.

It's the only way it might change.

Maybe if all home fans left via the west to rigby rd and away fans exit at Bloomfield rd then that would sort some of the problems. I know it’s all arse about face and a long walk around for some but if it doesn’t compromise you’re safety then do it this way. Our easiest route home is via Bloomfield rd but we avoid it now on match days. We shouldn’t have to but unfortunately because of the way the policing is set up we feel going via rigby rd is the safest route

It appears that Pool and PNE fans are united in the condemnation of this shambolic police management of fans leaving the ground, someone’s got it badly wrong and it’s not the fans who clearly feared for their safety particularly those with children and the elderly. The unanimous message of common sense is keep the away fans in after the final whistle and whatever needs to happen to appease this human rights bollox then sort it.

I’m not saying your wrong, but I’m sure someone posted yesterday that the ‘baaa’ comment was part of a joke between the copper and the poster?
I wasn’t there, so apologies if I’ve got it wrong.

The main issue was that away supporters not on coaches were allowed to leave the area unescorted directly along a route that led them straight into Blackpool fans heading in a route that they'd been directed to go in by the police. The unescorted nob end fans were looking for bother and the Blackpool fans were mainly families and people trying to make their way home.

Simple answer - hold away fans back until the area has cleared in a sterile zone on the ground side of Bloomfield Road and upto Central Drive. Put your cordons in along the footpath and upto the junction with Central Drive. These means away fans on coaches can leave and get on their bus and anyone else can then be escorted out of the area once home fans have been dispersed.

Or a more radical idea - volatile matches like this are only available to a limited number of away fans who have each bought a ticket through the club. The only way they should be allowed to travel is on organised coaches from the club and you don't get your ticket until you get on the coach. You're then escorted to the ground and straight in.

Flashpoints like Saturday are easily avoided with proper planning and less time @rsing around on social media reporting on the weather.

I know Blackpool v Preston Derby is a big deal to us but in the grand scheme of Derby's it really isn't. Why the Police made such a song and dance about it and such a mess of policing it should be massively under the microscope. It's to the fans of both teams credit that this f*ckup didn't end in disorder. It was almost as if the Police were daring the fans to get involved. Its not a one off either, the policing has been diabolical all season.

It would appear greater Manchester police and Merseyside police both handle far bigger crowds and with less incidents than Lancs police can with a sub 14,000 crowd.

I’ve read comments from the police commander in charge of Saturday’s game saying the police operation went really well on their behalf. (Rolls eyes more than once) 🙄

It's fecking simple like we all know.... keep away fans in for 15 mins after.. simple.

Utd did it yesterday so why oh why can we not?

And they even print on tickets that they will be kept in after for crowd safety... all it takes is one punch.. head hits floor.. game over... or are the police waiting for this to happen?

You are probably right Johnno but if so it was ill timed under the circumstances.
My naive comment related to how most thought the police tactics were wrong when they were known prior to the game and they were proved wrong on the day.

Their response to the criticism was 'sorry if you had to walk a bit further but everything was great and we did a great job'.

Sums them up really.
but it did “kick off” a couple of times - when this could have been easily avoided.

It amuses me why so many fans from the North Stand make their way through the covered apron to Bloomfield Road and turn left and front of the ground where away fans are coming out. Surely they don’t all live in the south of the town!
There must be a reason 😂.
When I used to go on the Kop with my Dad years ago we left the ground and went towards the park on Central Drive and through to Ansdell Road.

They couldn't handle the Nobbers which wasn't too bad as they couldn't cause a riot if they tried.
I'm really looking forward to the visits of Millwall, Birmingham and Sheffield United though 😁👍🏻

Over reaction by the police fuels the feeling that every one is in danger, if you aren't interested in a bit of a ruck with anybody and just go home 99% chance nothing would happen to you.

They were utter ** clueless…. I was with my two sons. We, and others pleaded with Police to act, as it was kicking off when we were all sent the same way off Bloomfield Rd. My sons mate got a good hiding from a nobber, glassed and had to have his lip stitched - he has to see a plastic surgeon later this week.
I’ve got to say, the Police I talked to, were clueless, argumentative, lazy tossers! Who couldn’t give a shit….

I posted about her yesterday. She was definitely taking the piss out of the fans. Disgusting behaviour. No wonder the police are no longer respected by the public.

But the police say it all went well...

I saw her do it. I was disgusted.

In this day and age, it is a pity that 'fans' of different football teams feel the need to constantly have a go at each other.
It's pathetic.
The Policing and Stewarding inside Bloomfield Road must be costing Mr Sadler an awful lot of money.

In a month when one of their own planned and executed an elaborate murder even after being under review for strange sexual behavior.
The whole world witnessed armed and armored police running away from Hungary supporters throwing punches and presumably being allowed to watch the rest of the game and abuse people undisturbed - that was embarrassing. One would have thought each force would be a little more focused on their public image.

i agree even pre match outside the Armfield - i’m sure there is an underlying motive on their part.
Exactly, what was the need for the multiple police vans blocking the road outside the Armfield when they took the knobbers on Buses from the Manchester? They were trying to get something going and they are banged to rights.

Yep I read that post as well.

Hi Mex, I was the one that posted after the game that the incident seemed to me to be banter, I heard the wpc making the noise and thought it was unusual, at the same time she was looking right at a group of fans, opposite south stand by the houses, I couldn't see who they were, or hear what was being said, but where I was stood, there were a few people quite amused, and it all seemed good light hearted banter, I remember thinking at the same time, it was a good bit of policing, as at the time there was a lot of confusion, with the police vans blocking off Bloomfield rd and the crowd compacting close together, the situation was all getting a bit frenetic, and it lightened the mood a bit. - that is just the way I perceived the incident

Something similar was said on the Seasiders Podcast.
It was light-hearted banter from the wpc.
