Matchday Mascots …

I’m trying to find out who selects match day mascots within the club , but I’m getting passed between pillar and post trying to find out direct from the club themselves.
I know its a long shot, but does anyone here know who to contact ?

The Junior Seasiders membership ( which both my kids are members ) are meant to be in with a shout of meeting the criteria to qualify.

After phoning reception to ask who is responsible for arranging it , they told me it was the ticket office staff I needed to speak to, so was redirected to them.
In turn , they told me nothing to do with them ( which I doubted in the first place ) , try marketing.

so I’ve emailed marketing last week, and they’ve not replied.

Only reason being, is we cannot attend many games, so wanted to put my kids names forward for the selective matches we can attend.

I know it’s not a big deal to most, but would make my kids day if they could be involved somehow.

Any help would be appreciated , cheers in advance

Two of my 3 lads did this 15-20 years back.

Great day for them. Back then you just chose an open slot and paid. We just did via the ticket office.

E-mail the SLO along the lines of your post. He'll either know who to contact or will pass on your mail to them.

My 2 both did it when younger 2012 - last game to get back in the play offs, then next season for Ollie’s last game. It wasn’t a ‘selected’ thing though, you had to pay a few bob, so presume it’s the same now?

Great day for the kids.

My eldest did Swansea at home; Grayson's last match in his first spell and a Boro away game.

My youngest did Hartlepool away and never got to do a home game because of NAPM.

Not sure he'd want to do it now he's 13.

Try the commercial team - Martin Booker - they are working on the mascot packages …

My lad did it about 15 years ago and we had to pay , think it was about £150 but he got a full kit and some match tickets. Got access to The Lounge as well, it was against Peterborough and Barry Fry was manager and he only turned up as the players were walking out! Got to meet the players in the changing rooms and some were brilliant with him whilst without naming names (Lee Jones😉) others were not so good. Aaron McClean from Posh was excellent as well showing a genuine interest in all that days mascots experience.

I went through this last season for my kids. Previously you could just buy your package but I was told the community trust had taken it over and they now selected them and it was no longer a package you could buy from the club. Dunno if it's true, I fcuked it off after that cos of the arsing around.

No one at the club ( that I’ve spoke to ) seems to know what’s going on with it.

Managed to be a mascot twice ,81/2 v Colchester and 83/4 v Walsall,Milk Cup. Different times but still a fantastic experience for a youngster.

I really don’t follow the logic behind these criticisms
Do we not expect the club to monetarise the available opportunities ?
It’s not like this is a new thing either
My 27 year old did it when 3 and 7 years old and the club charged then
We want Simon to build a training ground / improve the stadium and put out a team to compete in a league that’s notorious for being the one that zaps the most cash for owners and yet complain about things like this
BST and now Ryan Powell are purchasing packages that will both support the club and make sure that there will be opportunities for those perhaps not able otherwise to fund
Personally I think we need to cut the club some slack

Yeah just not sure the balance between being affordable for the area and wanting to maximise revenue is right. We've seen in quite a few areas the club pushing the limits of prices, 30 quid for a ticket for eg.

I'd like to see it be more affordable and hope to get a few more through the door to offset it a bit.

Here that argument however you have to balance price reductions against increased numbers

Most kids who do this will be having it as a birthday present - I know mine did

The reality is we can’t expect Simon to pay for everything and if we want to compete the club has to be funded

Some of the OTT comments about the pricing are off the scale

You don’t have to buy

Also a quick look at some other championship clubs offerings ( Nobbers and Middlesbrough) suggest that it’s actually competitively priced

I don't really see the big deal with this either tbh. I expected it to be a package to buy and I think for what you get its a decent offering. At the end of the day your buying an experience and the club is getting some money in too which is what needs to happen
I do accept that not everyone can afford these things which is why BST and the Muckers have done what they have which again is a well done to both of them groups but I just don't see the big issue here.

Nobbers is £300 but you get a strip. Think it's a bit harsh criticising the club over this.
Yes - fair shout, it’s not uncompetitive against Championship clubs and we all know the club needs to be sustainable.

Also this gap is exactly where the benevolence of the Tangerine Family fits in as it’s fundraising will hopefully help kids who might not ordinarily be able to afford it.

I hope the club will be offering kit options too.

Let’s remember these will be days that these Young Seasiders will never forget - 👏🧡🙏⚽🍊

Could not have put it better my self Tam. The ‘we want it all and expect SS to foot the bill while we get everything dirt cheap’ brigade get right on my thrupny bits!

On the other hand, the general monetisation of everything is a scourge in football. English fans have failed miserably in comparison to others in Europe in managing to control matchday prices and protecting the essence of the occasion.

Whilst, yes, of course our club exists in a broader context (and yes, of course there's also a legacy of underinvestment to say the least) if we're not prepared to question small things like this then we can't ever expect the wider questions to be asked of football as a whole.

It might just be 'the way it is' but the last 30 years of football has been more and more commercialisation and norms are set by acquiescing at a local level and then they become established and therefore every club has to do it or their at a disadvantage....

A couple more observations:

We paid for the home one and it wasn't 'cheap' back in 2008. Must have been £100+ and required our own kit.

The away ones were free but needed a kit.

The Boro mascot package for the home mascot, included a kit and a signed ball which came in around £300.

I allowed a friend on the family (be about 22 at the time) to take my son on the tour to meet the manager and players because he'd just returned from Afghanistan and it was the absolute minimum we could do. He absolutely loved it as much as my son.

My only thought on the proposal, they should have a mid point for those who have a membership but not a ST.

And for anyone contemplating it; do it. It's expensive but it's an incredibly memorable day for everyone concerned.

Sounds like one to save for his 21st TS 🤣

My grandson has been a mascot twice and he absolutely loved it and I am sure TS yours wll be too.

The highlight was meeting the players before kick off and getting their autographs, the look on his face said it all..

Overall very good value and you are putting money into our Clubs coffers .UTMP
