Matthew Pennington signs

Critch knows him from Liverpool U18 days apparently. Defender.

“Matthew is a player I have been aware of for a number of years and I am delighted we have beaten off significant competition from other Clubs for his signature.

“After a successful spell at Shrewsbury where he won the Players’ Player of the Season award last year, we feel we have signed an established player at this level with the potential to improve further.

Very happy with this, by all acounts it looked like he would be going to the Championship, believe that Plymouth and Birmingham were interested in him. Proven to be very good in league 1 and in a position we really need some quality as well.

He can play on the right or left side as a CH, good in the air, a leader at the back, decent with his feet and excellent positional play.
He really should be playing in the Championship. Absolute quality signing. Shrewsbury fans were gutted when his contract ran out.
He's the type of player that will play a huge part in us going up. Can not explain how happy I am with this.

Shrewsbury's Players' player of the season last year. Superb signing.

Ekpiteta and Pennington will make a very good pairing in this league imo. This is a definite sign of intent for me - yes we've a lot of work still to do, but we must have pushed the boat at a little considering the clubs who were reportedly interested.

Encouraging.

Really pleased with this signing, and also that we seemed to have beaten other clubs to his signature.

He must be a very good player, over 50 posts in 2 threads and nobody's said he's shite 😁

On the face of it, he seems like a great signing. He also has played with Norburn at Shrewsbury (although he hasn't signed YET! 😉)

I wonder if NC is a factor in us being able to pull of a signing like this beating other clubs?

Players respect him and he seems to be able to sell the dream well.

Would we have had a better summer for perm signings last season with NC still here?

Probably more a case of what's out there and what other clubs are looking for, there seem to be a fair number of experienced CB's available on frees this summer, so his options might be more limited than last summer.

But is NC a better salesman than MA for eg. Also more respected as a coach.
