Maxwell shakey tonight

When Ballard went off we really seemed to fall apart. Marv hasn't had game time to get back to his best and we seemed to be very weak at right back. Every cross from their right they appeared to have 2 players without anyone back to mark.

We have a week to regroup. Critch mentioned the goals conceded not being great. It was a strange game to be in with a 0-3 lead.

Onwards and Southwards.

With the crowd and atmosphere maybe the lads got a bit carried away trying to win the game and attack to put on a show that we lost focus. Critch said it was just an unusual situation with all out attack from them and losing focus defending balls in from wide.

Maxwell gets lots of credits but IMO he's overrated.
Totally agree. Yet again, 2 crosses into the 6 yard area and he doesn't come and collect. Result? 2 goals conceded!!! Anyone with an ounce of research would pump crosses into our box (for Maxwell to not come and collect) and feed off the scraps!!! OK, he does the other stuff brilliantly, but for me, a long way short of being a decent keeper.

Unbelievable. The lad will be player of the season. The first goal we had 3 men marking each other and not one of them won the header. 2nd goal he could possibly come but Simms was totally wrong side and poor defensively. When was Maxwells last “shaky” performance?

Yeah were some poor defensive moments in a pressure game. First goal should have been cleared, second saved 3rd was a bit sloppy too.

Luckily its not like us and hopefully we've got it out of us in that game.

We also made a lot of changes for some key people who hadn't played much like Marv, he did OK but obviously a tough game to come into after playing not much.

Stewart kind of stepped on the ball so was unlucky and should have cleared it and probably would have 99 out of 100 times.

As long as we sort it out by a week on Sunday these 3 goals will be forgotten about.
Oxford were always going to score last night any team 0-3 down from the first leg is going to attack for 90 minutes, the good news is we matched them in the goals scored which killed it for them.
We’ve played Lincoln 4 times this season won 2 drawn 2 scored 8 and conceded 3 so you have to take that and move on to Sunday. 👍

Oxford.

Oxford have scored loads of goals. Not sure what you expected tonight? Literally don’t care about the draw. One game to complete the season.

I don't care about the draw. I do care about how we conceded.

And that is why the word I used is "shakey" not anything stronger.

There were similarities to some of the softer goals we've conceded this season. And that's a concern.

All about opinions here lads and everyone is entitled to one.

Maxwell was certainly at fault for their second and third goals and yes he can claim lots of clean sheets this season but anybody with more than a pea for a brain knows that clean sheets come from a combination of good defending by the whole team before the ball gets anywhere near the keeper.

Also as mentioned we're through so let's look at the positive and celebrate the win and not bother with any negatives.

OH CHRISSY MAXWELL...

HE USED TO PLAY FOR PRESTON BUT HE'S ALRIGHT NOW!

Seriously, if he was strong on crosses, he'd be a Prem keeper. Organised, reads the game beautifully, absolutely top class with his feet, great reflexes, top professional, leader.

It's like saying Demi is shit cos he's crap in the air or Turton can't finish.

All league 1 players have a weakness or two (or are wonderkids who will be gone in six month)

OH CHRISSY MAXWELL.

HE USED TO PLAY FOR PRESTON BUT HES ALRIGHT NOW!

Strange match to play in. I wonder how many of our team had played a 2nd leg of a cup tie whilst being 3 goals clear from the 1st leg before? Unique scenario and the lads got through it as a team.

Wow . Actually just wow

I think Critchley will pick up on the negatives, he alluded that he was not happy to concede 3 and said they will look at it again Monday with a twinkle in his eye.
That said I think we have over 2 legs dismantled the strongest opposition in the playoffs.

All 3 goals were down to individual errors...Stewart for the first...Simms for the second and Maxwell for the third....At least they got them out of the way now and can work on them before the Final.

In all fairness Oxford played really well second half, but they played really well because i think we mentally eased off a little bit, which might have been a natural thing to do, and may have even been the sensible thing to do. we were comfortable. would have loved to have seen us stick 5 or 6 past them and i think if we had played with the same intensity that we did in the first half i think we could have done.

even with us playing in a more relaxed manner we still looked more comfortable.

Roll on wembley

To say Maxwell is overrated is a ridiculous comment. I suggest you watch Sunderland away again !! The goals conceded in the 2nd half were general defensive errors especially their 2nd. It was out of character for this team but hey look at the circumstances we just switched off a bit due to the occasion and also Ballard going off made a difference. Maxy has kept us in so many games this season and he will probably get the player of the season award.

He could have done better for two of their goals but also made a crucial stop in 2nd half.
We did miss Ballard when he was subbed. Assume NC was protecting him for Final

He’s had better games but it do easily make him a dodgy keeper. Keepers are always over analysed as any error is picked up, other players make mistakes and go unnoticed. He’s been fantastic this season and is a major reason we are on our way to Wembley for the 8000 time.

The best keeper we have had since gilks and people still find ways to criticise. Some of the saves he's made this season have been unbelievable. From the interviews I have seen of him he seems to be a real leader as well and good character.

Thought he could have done better for their last 2 goals.

It felt a little bit like the start of the season.

Doesn't matter in the overall scheme of things but we don't need a repeat at Wembley.

I'm sure that will be working on it this week.
The second he had no chance that was poor defending as was the first.
The third Maxwell had to cut out the cross. Their forward has got full momentum running across Gabriel who was stretching for the tackle and went to ground for the challenge, Marvin blocked the first shot (that's two defenders taken) and from that second ball from the block we were slow to react. Personally I wouldn't blame the keeper.
We'll learn from it. Critch mentioned the goals in his after match interview. The backroom will be studying that

Yes I thought we seemed to be missing a right back?
But thought big Marv did well on a couple of occasions clearing from that position when they had two or three players waiting for the ball to drop.

We've played Lincoln twice, lost 3 2 and drew 2 2? Both of which we really should have been out of sight.

It wasn't a great performance at the back really and the defence was a bit bobbins for all their goals, understandable though with the crowd back, three goal lead to protect, it looked a bit nervy but it's very understandable and maybe it was a communication thing because we were loud!
Interesting point about the crowd stopping them communicating as easily, could be something in that.

Remind me who has the most clean sheets in league 1? Maxie is class, the save in the first leg when we were 2 up was outstanding and gave us the platform to finish 3 up.
