Maxwells kicking

It's atrocious isn't it.

Too many times tonight he launched a ball into touch or even straight to a rovers player to put us right into danger. Also playing it long to one of the smallest guys on the pitch.

His distribution is just poor.

It's hard enough trying to keep possession with our poor first touches and passing intent, but booting it straight out of play or to the opposition isn't helping.

He regularly struggles with his kicking.

Have always said Grimmy should be number one, but tbh Maxwell played a blinder in the last game so justified his selection. Which goalie we play isn't going to make a huge difference, they're both decent.

He wants kicking, surprisingly Poveda didn't win one header from Maxwells numerous attempts to find him. As I've said on a previous thread, maybe he was actually aiming for Gabriel but missed !

Poveda doing a good impression of Junior Bent at times tonight. What a waste of talent.

Not our main problem no. But the keepers these days start attacks and in an actual footballing philosophy are capable of passing to players around them.

We waste possession a lot but even more goes to waste with his kicking.

I don't disagree, the kicks up to Poveda tonight were infuriating. There's literally no point. Having the choice of all the players we have on the pitch and consciously deciding to kick it up to the smallest one is mind-blowingly stupid.

He kicks far too close to the touchline half the time it goes straight out and even if it doesn't we generally surrender possession Pathetic to keep doing the same thing time and time again with the same outcomes
Our throw ins are just as bad, often instantly conceding possession or going all the way back from a promising forward position we've earned.

Tbh we do that a lot, even in open play, the examples tonight with everyone forward it went back to Thompson twice, who both times took an age to think and just blasted the ball at the onrushing player. That left us nearly in trouble and a chance to do something positive wasted by a negative backpass and a dawdle.

His body positioning for goal kicks is all wrong. For a right footer he's lined up to kick into touch, and he does. Clueless.

I'm not defending the execution of Maxwells kicking but he is clearly under instruction of where to kick it to. The smallest, most unlikely player to win a header. A reason why I'm hesitant unless it's technical deficiency ie CJ or bottling challenges to just say that the players are sh1t. The book stops with McCarthy for me although there are clearly some out there who are LG 1 if not LG 2 standard

If only he was a little bit taller..

For such an experienced keeper, I can't understand why Max struggles with his kicking. Banksy, make him practice more at SG.
I played in a team with a really good former Crewe keeper, who during a game, 9/10 could hit a penny anywhere on the pitch.
I asked how he learnt to do this: "When I was at Crewe, the keepers had to practice for ages every day, kicking & throwing balls at cones placed around the pitch. If we missed them we'd get a bollocking, and be made to continue until we hit them. Those that struggled, rarely played".

Been saying this for weeks now. Maxwell aims for a player usually standing within 2 yards of the touch line and more often than not the ball sales straight out into touch, then he just waves his arms furiously!! I’m sure one of the supposed advantages Maxwell has over Grimshaw is better ball distribution, well he ain’t showing if.

I wasn’t a total fan of playing out from the back from goal kicks etc but when done safely at least it meant we occasionally retained possession.

One thing which has always bugged me at goal kicks. Is there some sort of unwritten rule that all players on the pitch + the referee need to congregate within 20 yards of each other on one side of the pitch, then the goalie has to boot it into the middle of them? What if say all the players congregated but then the goalie surprised the opposition and kicked into space on the other side of the pitch for attackers to run onto in some space. Long goalkicks seem to be the most predictable part of professional football (basically hit and hope) - a bit of variation every now and then wouldn’t go amiss!!

Some corner training here.

Interesting thing with that is quite often he's aiming for the player who has no one in front of him and therefore if he nods it forward we lose possession anyway!

Maxi went from Gordon Banks (Stoke) to Tyra Banks (Blackburn).
His distribution is awful but with not having the players to confidently play out from the back (a la Rovers last Tuesday) maxwell has little option but to try and lump it as far up the pitch as he can 🤦🏻‍♂️

But he didn't as most of what he did was what an average keeper would be expected to do and his kicking was crap in that game too.
The bar is set far to low now everyone is used to his shit for so long.

poor at best and rarely ends up where it is intended to - overall he is about 10 years behind the times goalkeeping wise.
