Anyone read Stan Ternents book where he says assisting Bob Stokoe he had a brick chucked at him from the west paddock?.
It was. I sat in there for a few games with Tony Green's lad as a primary school aged lad.The first thing that sprang to mind was those bloody awful toilets, but also the odd looking small stand of seats in the NW corner.
It looked like it held about 60 people?
Over the years I've watched us from every stand except for that stand, I can't recall if it was reserved seating?
Seen that pic before. My brother's talking to my old man (cap on) & I'm stood just behind. Here's me in the West Paddock circa 1988 with Mason Kid and Rob (from Chipping, like me) directly above the sliding defenders left arm).
A few memories:
A Wolves fan in Old Gold, first game of the season not against Wolves, wandering past me with a can of beer and a 12 inch fat boy spliff.
We were losing by a goal and everyone was streaming to the exit as we got a corner. 'Don't go' I shouted 'we are going to score!' Everyone stopped, turned to watch as the corner came to bog all, and then left. I felt like Moses for a good 15 seconds.
Waves of abuse aimed at Tony Cunningham, who had just left us for 'the bigger club' Bury. We lost.
Beating Chesterfield 3-0 in the snow, I leant in to the away dug-out and said to their ashen-faced manger 'this won't do much for your job prospects!' He looked at me with pure hatred and said 'Job prospects?!?' As he was rising to punch my lights out. I scarpered, and have always regretted being a cocky shyte and being really nasty to a man I didn't know, a bloke under pressure, with a mortgage and kids etc. I learnt something that day.
Oh, and the Bristol Rovers pitch invasion when their third hit the top corner. Mental. They beat Bristol City to the title.

That club call number is something I'll never ever forget. Here's me in the West Paddock circa 1988 with Mason Kid and Rob (from Chipping, like me) directly above the sliding defenders left arm).

I used to sit on the wall circa 1962.i used to put my son on the wall circas 1995 .96. mind you lost him a couple of times.
I'm the same age and we went up and down the country on the supporters club coaches. Don't recall there being any other regular group of people of a similar age to us.Anyone remember seeing Simon Sadler in there?
I'm not saying he made it up - just wondered if he was as regular as the rest of us.

Hatchet, I think the game they were on the pitch at half time was our '84 2-1 win. The 1-1 game with their fourth down and one yard to go equaliser was '88 when we lost the replay. The city that came across the pitch that day , thought they would relieve me of a huge Union Flag we took to the game from the Boar's Head, they started off sprinting across the pitch and slowed to a dead stop ! a few got pushed in by some our lot and were soon dealt with ! ... F.A Cup i think ?Pretty sure they got a late equaliser ? ... went to the replay at Main Road, we got beat, can't remember the score.
Me and a mate got two turnips from Carleton Grocers before the No14 bus arrived, bowled them out infront of him from South West corner as he came out the tunnelI’m sure a turnip emerged from the paddock in Taylor’s general direction
We turned up late and couldn't get in, so we stood on the kop with the York fans. It was like the alamo, Dean Kealey had a blinder in their nets. Also remember a game against York in Billy’s first season, when we were on that run of winning every home game. We attacked the Kop in the 2nd half so that end of the West was rammed. We scored in the 90th minute (Groves header?) and the Kop end of the west went wild and spilled onto the pitch. Brilliant stuff
We were like a Juggernaut at home that season, blowing teams away with ease. But in that play-off leg vs Barnet at home they were miles better than us. We scabbed a 1-0 thanks to Andy Garner I think.Love him or hate him Barry Fry’s a great character

Don’t he miss a penalty and Blackpool fans started singing only 1 Paul StewartIt was 2-1 (a Weds night iirc), early 1988?
Might be wrong but I think Paul Stewart scored against us
I can still remember my relief at getting through those back alleys and back to my mate's car without being ambushed
Paid an urchin 50p to look after the car on some wasteground. Got back to find it was the only car still there and somewhat surprised to see it in one piece. It was 2-1 (a Weds night iirc), early 1988?

I think we lost 0-5 to them 2 years on the trot. Didn't Paul Barnes score 3 for them and did so for York when they won 5-0 at BR.Torquay in 1985 celebrating promotion, Champagne corks popping in the paddock, you couldn't move. There's a brilliant picture on the old photos thread taken from the Kop of the pitch invasion that day.
Andy Preece jumping into the Paddock at a Reserve game and kicking a mouthy fan who was giving him grief. Still not sure why I was there, but I definitely was.
Losing to Bury 0-5 in 1999. Cushions lobbed onto the pitch from the Directors Box and Mr Kipling tarts stolen from the post match food spread under the stand in frustration following a heavy defeat .
Mosser taking on three Port Vale fans in 1993 when they were taking a liberty. They didn't last long !!
Happy Days.

Wattle and daub back then....I used to sit on the wall circa 1962.
where are all the honest urchins these days?Paid an urchin 50p to look after the car on some wasteground. Got back to find it was the only car still there and somewhat surprised to see it in one piece.
I remember seeing the turnip’s so I must have been there. Can’t remember anything about the game though.Me and a mate got two turnips from Carleton Grocers before the No14 bus arrived, bowled them out infront of him from South West corner as he came out the tunnel
It was so classic how they just emerged!! ‘Bowled’ is a great description ha ha! Memories!!Me and a mate got two turnips from Carleton Grocers before the No14 bus arrived, bowled them out infront of him from South West corner as he came out the tunnel
Sir Billy AyreIn a previous life I used to watch pool from the West Paddock and enjoyed standing behind the away dug out. One game I remember was playing Wimbledon when Dave Bassett was their manager. John Deary got sent off and Bassett immediately changed the Dons set up and they scored immediately. I was really impressed. Thing is I could never imagine Critch being pro active with game management it's a major flaw in his game.
Also older fans can probably remember when we had the dugouts moved to the East but can't remember which manager requested that. West Paddock was ace.
We being me and three or four mates. Never even heard of SS."We" being you and SS?
Man City walking over the pitch. Absolute resistance as the kop looked on. FA cup 1984. 2 1 the poolThat's because you didn't understand it. It was far from what you say, in fact the polar opposite.
I thought it was ok at the time but looking back they must have been worse than todays lower league mens elite athletes. Lets not big them up comparing them with todays footballers.Memories of the West Paddock are that we often watched decent football. Lower league football but you often went home entertained.
Unlike now.
