NEW: Middlesbrough in talks with EFL to get their trip to Sheffield United postponed following a significant Covid outbreak at The Riverside club #MFC #UTB

Quote on the Boro forum:

"I think a week off would benefit us as we have played more than enough.

We don’t have to play the martyr and play a weakened side when others aren’t."

You couldn't make it up, you really couldn't.
Unbelievable from them after so many of their comments this week.

How can you have a full strength team one night and then the next day say you’re not going to be able to play the following weekend?

Not even trying to hide it.

Efl should be issuing 3 point deductions per game to teams who can't prove they have had a squad full of covid to leave them with less than the required players to play a match, as per the rules. I doubt they've all had more than half the squad out at once.

Any positive lateral flows have to be backed up by PCR so not hard to see who actually has it.

Totally pissed off its bullshit
They should put a team out even if it involves the kids
TBH you're bound to say that just to keep the peace on here.
Used to think Boro were an ok club but the shite that forum spouted the other day and Wilders crap comments really disappointed me

Yep, is everyone still happy we kept our integrity and played ? If people still believe clubs are cancelling games due to covid then i assume these are the same people that think the moon is made of cheese.

Why would a huge club (copyright Chris Wilder) need to call a game off?

I swear they put something in the water in the North East that makes them deluded.

Definitely still happy we played and kept our integrity.

Thats the whole point of integrity. Come what may and regardless of others you do the right thing 👍

I happy we stilled played them, Boro will be stronger in January as that was one of the main reasons Warnock left money was being made available for transfers as he'd already said he was leaving at the end of the season so the new guy could bring in his own players.

In Jan they'll be shopping at Booths and us Lidl we gave them a game Wednesday and absolutely no guarantees that the result would be reveresed later in the season.

For those happy to continue while all around are taking the piss that’s fine. Just don’t complain if our poor run continues and we drop into the danger zone while all those taking the piss suddenly do ok. Yes I’m fully aware we could beat Hull tomorrow and obviously hope we do. The level of bullshit with all these cancellations is nothing short of a disgrace.

Some weird posts on here as Boro had 2 out with covid on Wednesday.

Not really. It's not about how many they have out with covid. It's about their fans giving us dogs abuse because they thought we were trying to get the game called off, and now their fans are suddenly of the view that they should call off the game against Sheffield - not because they've reached the required number of cases, but because it would help them if they didn't have to play while understrength and they need a rest.

100% hypocrisy. At least one or two fans on their message board realise it, but most are either oblivious or just don't care.

I'd love to see the evidence from the EFL that all these teams have at least 12 players out with covid, which is the required number for a postponement in a squad of 25. I find it very hard to believe, including Middlesbrough. They had no issues playing against an out of form and depleted side, but just 24hrs later they suddenly have a massive covid crisis when a game against a full strength, in form, fully rested team is imminent. Do me a favour, we're not stupid. Unfortunately, the people running the EFL are, so it'll probably get postponed.

Comes down to the fact they were supremely confident they could beat an understength BFC ('the game must be on!') and they think they'll get beaten tomorrow ('call the game off!')

Total hypocrisy as above

Let’s not forget it’s an early KO also, you can almost hear CW discussing the plan with his back room staff. Look at Blackpool here the daft sods, we’ll nail them then play the covid card to get the Sheff Utd game as it’s an early KO. The. We can all enjoy NYE lads.

Some teams will have 3 and 4 games in hand on us, where will the integrity be as we have to watch these games being played knowing theres nothing we can do to alter anything.

The integrity will still be there.
Lala nobody’s saying it won’t be, but it’s no good holding the moral high ground if it costs us. I would rather join in with the rest of the welchers and have a break.NC has already said we’re running in empty and players are plying with injuries. Is it unprofessional to keep asking them to do it again. Talk about player welfare.

I'll be laughing when they have four consecutive weeks of midweek games with increased risk of injury while we plan, train and rest.
Wiz, do you believe this is just a Xmas spike in Omicron and we will miraculously be all covid free from January/February? If not then I assume games will be cancelled throughout the rest of the season ?

Plus, these teams with games in hand won't win them all as they have to play each other.
I'm pissed off we've played on whilst others took the piss but if we'd have taken 4 points from the last 2 matches as we should have done then all this moaning wouldn't be happening.

Well that will still to be seen wiz.
When else are they going to play the games to catch up Scara it has to be midweek ?
I'd go further than Wiz it could be 6/7 weeks of two games a week if there already fixtures planed like we have two Tues/Weds in February.

The point I’m making is are we saying these games only getting cancelled as Omicron is rife NOW ? Will it subside sufficiently ( miraculously) after Xmas. If not then we should see cancellations all through the rest of the season.

What clubs are doing is adding Covid onto their injured list which is a disgrace it needs to be separated.
Until that point yep teams will use it as an excuse to get games called off but baring one or two that was pretty much our first 11(Gabriel suspended) out against Boro and the subs where all regular first teamers.

At some point as I've said many times stop the ** testing it's ridiculous that we're stopping people who ain't ill from working.

Agreed, the problem is the first team against Boro was fine, but I would ask the question would that of been NC first choice and would he of played that formation had he had a full quota available. He’s already admitted Dougal is playing with an injury and several others have knocks. When do we put players welfare over morality to get ten game on.

I'm just of the opinion that switching the game would have probably achieved sod all with a team pushing for promotion and going to splash the cash in Jan.

Players are alway carrying knocks so yes the back up is thin on the ground in midfield but when you've cotton wool ankles Stewart on the books a looanee and long term injuries to Ward/Virtue now Carey this will always be the case until we strengthen,Covid can't change that.

Difference of opinion. 👍

Exactly right. So get as many played while you can. Pointless calling a firebreak now as there's nothing to say it will be sorted in 3 weeks time. Those missing games now could be playing 4 times a week by the end of the season if they lose another batch of games. Sat, Tues, Thurs, Sat. Bit like the Sunday Alliance after a wet winter.

Really, in the interests of fairness, these cancelled games should be rearranged over a period of time to reflect the busy festive fixture period. e.g. Make them play 3 matches in a week.

To spread the cancelled matches nice and evenly over the remainder of the season (like we know will happen), just gives these teams a competitive advantage.
