Well that was an enjoyable day out....
Early start on the train as i was a bit concerned about the M55 being closed so it was the first train to Blackpool for a good while
Not easy with 3 kids in tow and 3 changes but we managed to get to Preston unscathed
Then the lions roared ....
Well... ish about 50 of them on Preston Station singing "Prestons a shit hole i want to go home"
I whole heartedly agreed
Anyway kids were starving by the time we got to Blackpool North so we went to West Coast Rock
First time I've been in for about 15 years ... couple of Madri's and massive burgers all-round
Then a walk to the ground
Bit of a faff getting in with all this covid bullshit ..
Not sure about this ordering drinks thing and I'm not a fan of queuing so i opted for a couple of Malbecs from the wine stand ..
Great idea as there was no queue, bit on the cold side but decent enough
Thought we started ok and probably should have scored early, this was always going to be a match where i thought we had a massive chance of picking up some points given how many players they had missing
No Wallace, Saville Ballard or Bradshaw so fair play to them for playing the game ..I'm sure if it had been Hull or Barnsley those clubs would have tried to call it off
I liked CJ playing on the the left as it meant we could finally see a winger playing on their correct footed side ... and so it proved with a great run for the goal
Keogh had a great game at the back and i thought the midfield 2 did well considering they were out numbered by the Millwall 3
Lavery worked hard and Bowlers running scared them stiff
All round i though it was a professional performance
Swift walk back to the station , just made the train with about 2 minutes to spare
Train was busy with Millwall and one very kind gentleman asked me if i wanted a blast whilst i was waiting for the toilet
Some right lads on this train so as soon as we were seated my little girl couldn't wait to show them all her Blackpool top.. had a really good chat with several of their top brass including the kind hearted 'blast' gentleman
Its amazing how similar we are as a club to Millwall when you think of it
Both small clubs in areas of poverty with several bigger clubs on the doorstep.. even our record transfer fees are similar as is the time spent in the top division over the last 40 years or so
Really enjoyed the journey with some salt of the earth proper football fans ...
Then bang .... train pulled in to Wigan
No sure the fixture organisers really thought it through with West Ham at utd, Wycombe at Morecombe and Gillingham at Wigan
Certainty meant for good viewing when about 30 Gills all dressed like they had club shop vouchers for Xmas got on thinking they were big time at Wigan, little did they realise they train was full of Millwall
They all must have shrunk about 2ft once they realised ..
We quite enjoyed the atmosphere..the buffet cart was certainly interesting and in the confusion i managed to get a free can of Camden lager
Happy days ...
With the the club shop Gills put firmly in their place it was back to talking football with my new Millwall mates
So 8 different trains and a 12 hour shift with 3 kids we were finally home
What a great day and a massive 3 points
