Missed opportunity

As I acknowledged at the top, I’ve no truck with the ‘I want’ brigade.
But my point is that the initial decision was wrong (in my opinion), people are allowed to articulate that.
And let’s not congratulate politicians for actually behaving like grown ups for once in a lifetime. For most of them it’s just virtue signalling anyway. After the funeral they’ll be back to their childish, cheating, selfish back stabbing ways.
Whether the decision is wrong or right is immaterial and it’s a matter of opinion in any case. If the opposite decision had been taken, people would have disagreed with that too.

So the decision ‘just is’…. What remains is how people respond to that decision and to me that boils down to basic decency, regardless of your personal feelings about monarchy, the decision and the personal impact on you.

So to me…. You can disagree, but also respect and appreciate why the decision was taken and keep your counsel at this time.

Unfortunately these large platforms like Twitter facilitate and perhaps encourage the opposite.

To my mind groaning about missing a footy game or spending a few quid on a forum the family might read, is the only ‘wrong’ decision.

Just gently taking the piss really, I hope you had a good time, Im all for people doing whatever they want.
Taking the piss really?

I wouldn’t have guessed.

Was on a charter boat so had no choice as the boat went out anyway and at £800 a day (no refunds) you just don’t decide not to go.

We didn’t even know she died that day till we got back in around 6pm.

Even if you knew the day before and they offered you a full refund due to the circumstances in my opinion you would still be good to go. If you were too wracked by grief, very sad or thought it was disrespectful you would also be within your rights to not go. It's your choice and that's how it should be. Just as I think we could have applied those same principles to the football this weekend but we weren't allowed to make that choice.
As that choice was taken away from us we should at least be able to moan about it, getting into weird territory if we can't say what we want when people with some degree of power adversely effect us even if it is just one game of football.
I'll be totally honest I had respect for the Queen but I'm not sad and I'm not grieving, had too much of the real thing in my life for it to kick in for somebody who is to all intents and purposes a stranger to me. So let me and many like me keep calm and carry on while I respect the choice of others to observe a period of mourning until the day after the funeral.

That’s setting a dangerous precedent. What other decisions that aren’t necessarily in our interests should we accept as ‘just is’?

I’ve not got an issue with what people’s views are regards cancelling football games on the Saturday as a mark of respect but I thought it was the correct thing to do.
As regards the fishing we already lost 2 days due to gale force winds Mon/Tues so it was a no brainer we went out on the last day (Thurs)
As I’ve already said football is 46 games (50 with cup) games and it’s a 10 month season so I just can’t see why people are up in arms about one game in a 50 game season being cancelled.

Having watched lots of footage of the queen over the past few days, it hit home JUST how many events the queen actually attended over her lifetime..right up until two days before she died. Just take a minute and really think about having to do that. In the scheme of things, I think missing a couple of football matches, to show our respect, is not much of a sacrifice at all..

We aren't going to agree on this and it's done now so we move on. Hope you made the most of the days when you did get out to sea👍

Other sports should have followed suit. The last few days have been an opportunity to reflect and look back on the life of the Queen.

I’m not quite sure how that would be enhanced by a load of pissed uo football fans churning out “God Save The King” really.

It sounds to me like a pretty lame excuse just to carry on as normal and a lack of willingness to make a fairly limited sacrifice for someone who dedicated their life to serving her country.

The reason for the postponement was made absolutely and singularly clear… It was done as “A MARK OF RESPECT”

We’ve now got the absolute plums at the FSA seeking “compensation” for supporters who happen to have been inconvenienced by the decision (Seriously Fuck Off you embarrassing bunch of traitorous wankers) Not in my name 👎

I think the reaction from football fans tells its own story really.

For once wind your collective necks in shut the fuck up and pay your respects.

It’s not about YOU!
A contrary opinion from you, now there’s a surprise. What a pile of old claptrap. 😂

Not really a shock you don't agree is it? Whatever the situation and however it comes about, you won't agree with the majority.

You assume you’re in the majority ?

Step outside your echo chamber 👍
Hardly an echo chamber, it's in the news. The GOVERNMENT recommended not cancelling. Just stop being argumentative against every topic going. On this occasion, unlike quite a lot of others, you're in the minority in thinking it was correct.

Like I said… you’ve assumed your opinion is a majority one. It isn’t

Thanks

I think it looks pretty substantial considering the outcry.

And you're assuming you're not, I can pretty certainly say I'm correct and you aren't. Is what it is no matter what you reply back, we don't need another paragraph of nonsense like the original one you posted.

Anyway, BFCx3 you need to jump to your next random topic to find an argument where you're against the majority. Quick. Enjoy your evening.

There’s always plenty of gobshytes like yourself, who assume their collective willingness to gob off is a measure of public opinion.

It’s important to give a voice to the silent majority. 👍
