Most goals you've seen in a game of football?

I also thought it was Andy Brockbank (Brocklebank?) but that it was the Halifax game, not York. Stand to be corrected though.

We were in the Scratchers and even from there (opposite side of the pitch) we immediately said it hit the side stanchion. But weirdly the ref and lino signalled goal.

Edit to add: my highest was the 5-4 game with Brentford like many others above.

There must be two of these goals then. The Brockbank shot was from not far inside of York half, attacking the south, the ball hit the outside of the net on the scratching shed side and rebounded straight back.

In my mind the Halifax game was most memorable for Dave Bamber outjumping Grenville Mellington at the far post to nod it into an empty net.

Haha, memory is a slippery thing isn’t it? Though to be fair it was several decades ago. We’re agreed on Brockbank, and that the ‘goal’ was at the south stand end. I also agree with you that the shot was from miles out. I’m pretty sure we’re describing the same incident, and I’ll be surprised if it’s not the same game. In my mind it was v Halifax but it could have been York. The only bit that wobbles me is you saying it hit the side netting on the scratchers side. I could swear it was on the west side. I was deffo in the scratchers, anyway.

I remember the Ango Italian Cup victories but an even more memorable high scoring Pool game was the 6 - 0 home victory over Newcastle United late 60s in, I think, our only home win in that relegation year. Our future king played for the opposition.
I remember that game well, think we also beat Southampton away 5-1 that season.

Only one sub allowed in those days. Could be either reason or injury but I think he had let in 7 by then. Surely bring on a forward if you are 7 down⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽
I remember him taking his shirt off and throwing it on the floor while he was on the pitch.

Swansea away in 2007. Still have to check the score. I was absolutely roaring.
Didn't we have a 4-4 draw there as well in about 1993.

Two other random mad shorelines, not in the same game but worth remembering. We beat Bristol Rovers 6-1 at home and the following week did the same to Port Vale away. Feb 1987. Was at both.

Yeh, memory can get a little fuzzy over time but I'd swear on oath it was a Gordon Simmonite screamer against Halifax, shooting towards the South with it hitting the stanchion on the West Side.🤷

Blackpool 10 Lanerossi Vicenza 0
Me too…..though in my first year at University my faculty Wednesday team ( Com Econ) lost 17 0 to the Maths team on a muddy pitch with hardly a blade of grass on a freezing wet afternoon. We ended up with just 8 players as 3 walked off including the Captain just after half time.
Said Captain and the other 2 never played again for us as the remaining players were disgusted with them.
Somehow I ended up as Captain probably because someone usually had to go around( me 😳) trying to raise a team every week so you can imagine we weren’t exactly top of the league but at least we enjoyed it….oh and I played a few games for the Maths team when we had no game😁.

I’m another who was at the Lanerossi game. Funny seeing the reactions of the Italians once we got to three up. Fingers pointing, blaming one and all, descending to slapping heads and and arm flapping.
If memory serves me well, it was warm and sunny and a five figure attendance,

You’re showing your age….mind you I was there too….and that was a disastrous season especially at home.
…..I also remember us playing Newcastle when they brought thousands( many arriving the previous night) and went on the rampage around town.….there were so many arrests that they were throwing out those who’d been nicked the night before to accommodate the latest batch.
Think the reports were that at least 10000 came to “town”.

Was definitely a warm and sunny day…it was May or early June after all😉

West Side, South Stand, Brockbank and York are my recollections🤣

I wa
It could have been West Side, but I thought Brockbank was a left back so I'll stick to it being the East
My usual place in the South Paddock was looking out just to the left of the goal and I'm seeing it hit the sloping stanchion about halfway up.

We beat Charlton 8-4 in the 50s. Think that's our highest scoring game at all time? @Davepick any memories?
Wiz, I remember the game but I don't think I went.
What I do remember is that it was played in appalling conditions, I think gale force.
Players from both sides were brought off with fatigue.
Blackpool had more players on the pitch, hence the score.
It was Sept 1952 with a crowd of 33,498.
Pool scorers were o.g. Brown 3, Mortenson, Garrett, Matthews & Taylor.
Just looking at the previous week we had beaten Wolves Away 5-2.
Not a bad team in those days.😀

10.0 Blackpool v Lanerossi Vicenza in Anglo-Italian Cup way back in 1972. Won the final in Italy 3.1 against AS Roma in front of 75,000!
Can't remember if that was the match Suddick scored an incredible goal.
I was doing my 'season job' in the old Central Station amusement arcade. 2 of us wangled off and rushed to BR.
We got there about 10/15 mins in or so. We had already missed 2 goals.
What a game.

I thought that goal was Brockbank against York on a very windy night.
Yes that was definitely Andy Brockbank who scored the "goal". I remember the Gazette photographer agreeing with the keeper that the ball hit the outside of the side netting and stanchion but the referee was already back in the centre circle.

Most I have seen is 12, went to a Champions League game while in Germany a few years back. Dortmund 8 - 4 Warsaw. Had a bet on Dortmund -3!

V Lannerossis 10 (TEN) nil

Played in a 21-0 match ar School v Bailey for Cardinal Allen in 1976 - we were Blackpool and Fylde Champs that season

Ps Chipping boys team got regularly gubbed 26-1 etc by teams from Blackburn with full beards. Took us a season and a half to get our first win.

Many years ago when i lived in Fleetwood, they played Skelmersdale Utd and won 11-0
I was at that game. Fleetwood's right winger (Armstrong?) scored five.

I once turned out for Baines 3rdXI against the Catholic College at Preston in an unfamiliar midfield role, and amazed myself by scoring after about 30 seconds. With ten minutes to go, my magnificent marauding display had helped us keep the deficit down to 4-2, but then our centre half had to go off and I was asked to fill in.

We lost 9-2.

Andy Brockbank fun facts:

1. His one and only English career goal was the one at Bloomfield Rd (see above) that didn’t actually go into the net.

2. He’s now an air conditioning engineer in Australia!

Hmmm, not sure about that? Andy Brockbank definitely got a late goal in a 2-1 defeat at Deepdale early 80's, FA cup game I think. Must have been Gordon Simmonite if Brockbank only got one goal for us.

Blackpool 7 Halifax 1

(One of Blackpool's goals wasn't a goal, Simonites shot hit the stanchion and bounced back. Ref looked at lino, lino looked at ref, ref points to the centre spot. Goal😆)
I though the goal that wasn't a goal was in a different evening match against York ? I was at both of those games but it was a very long time ago 😂

Blackpool 8 Charlton 4 on a rather wet afternoon, a rare Matthews goal coming in from the left wing in front of the West stand and a hat-trick from Alan Brown.
The veteran Charlton keeper Sam Bartram was injured and did not play, instead a South African guy, can't remember his name had the pleasure of picking the ball out of his net 8 times.
I can remember in a previous thread that DP said he was there that day, the amazing thing was that at 8-1 down, Charlton came back with three quick goals,

Yes it was Derek Armstrong who finished up in the USA.I seem to recall that he had a heating and plumbing business locally.

Not read all replies so apologise if its been mentioned

I seem to remember beating Ft Lauderdale Strikers 10 -0 around 1975? with a certain Gordon Banks in nets...

Also, we beat T'Rovers 5-3 one week, the next we beat Orient 5-3, were second in the old second division, then got relegated the same season....
30 yrs.... you know the rest...

But my first game... The mighty 5 Watford 0 about 1969/70?

I was visiting relatives for Christmas in 1962 or 63 . They lived in Oldham and were fans I went with them to Boundary Park on boxing day and watched Oldham beat Southport 11-0.
