Most Hour Worked

Just reading the forum about work what is the most hours you have worked in a week. I worked 102 hours in 1 week when I grafted at North Pier for Entam Leisure before First Leisure. Still went to the Regency after work.

I did a 36 hour shift once. It was hell. It's a long story but essentially it was 2 12 hour shifts with a 12 hour break and no one came in to relieve me, so I had to just work through as I couldn't legally leave the place unsupervised. Rang my boss and asked could he sort someone to do the last 12 hours instead of me and he got nowty cos I'd rung him.

Dunno about longest week - used to work in hotels so in the season, racked up some mad hours.

I once did a ‘ graveyard shift ‘ when younger working in London on demolition ie full day and then straight onto night shift

Worked plenty of 80hr+ weeks whilst on the BFC board - particularly in Feb / March last year as I was doing two jobs

Worked 60+ in recent weeks

Had a B&B for 10 years, just the wife and I, so a lot ! And 51 weeks a year when we were getting it running properly.

Longest single shift was 25 hours. Product launch for Sainsburys, alcoholic sauces at Xmas. Expecting volume for an 8 hour shift, got an order that would take 48 hours. Sorted me and my guys, with some extras pulled in for outside, to basically keep going, but I took the first big run.

Spent 24 hours surrounded by Brandy fumes 🤪

I had a cafe for a good number of years, open 6 am to 6.30 pm 7 days. I started preparing at 5.30 am by the time we had cleaned up and washed all equipment down it was 8.30/9 pm. A lot of hours but we enjoyed most of them. That was in the days when Blackpool was booming.

Having pulled a few 24 plus hour shifts when I was younger, my advice would be to ignore the machismo and take a break for reflection. It’s not as if the clients/boss appreciate it after all. 3am one morning I heard one client say to another “so what’s the quality of the work being churned out after this many hours?”. Fair comment to be fair.

Happily we were only dealing with money. Imagine if it was a junior doctor dealing with your wife/child.
And then who is to blame if something goes wrong? The doctor? His line manager? The politicians?

The politicians but the doctor gets the blame.

Also did a few all nighters when I was younger . . . had a deadline for a submission at 7pm on a Monday. Started working 9am Sunday and finished working at 7pm on Monday . . . obviously went to the pub after but was seeing stars !!!

When I was 16 I worked in a chippy near the pleasure beach being paid £1 an hour. I cycled there and back from Carleton and came out with £80odd quid a week !!

And has it changed?

Do junior doctors still work ludicrous hours? While being told “You have it easy!!! In my day..... blah blah blah”
Yep.

But no one outside the department would be held responsible for any mistake, certainly not hospital management. Officially the hours have to follow EWTD, 48 hours (Brexit won't change that without a new UK law) but doesn't happen in real life.

Did a 48 hour special at work a couple of years back but that included sleeping in. Done a couple of 24 hour shifts without sleep that have almost destroyed me.

I remember when I was helping to set up a brand new shop (I must have only been about 19) and it was all hands to the deck and I reckon I did 5 18 hour days on the trot and then worked the first two days the shop was open for a good 12 hours. So probably well over 100 hours but I was 19 it was exciting and you didn't need sleep!
