Most underrated Bands of all time?

Not an unheard of Band most likely, maybe even a quite popular band who had some success, maybe even a good amount of success BUT crucially a Band that you thought never got the recognition they deserved, were never fully appreciated. A Band that you loved and you couldn’t see why more people didn’t think they were the Cat’s Whiskers. A Band you probably still listen too regularly but it more than likely won’t be on the radio

I’ll start with Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

The Peroni band of brothers.

Milburn.

Arctic Monkeys opened for them in their early days playing in Sheffield. I always thought Milburn would go on to be massive, but it was t'monkeys who made it big.

Give em a listen.

I find these kind of threads interesting, but a bit hard to join in.
Do we equate ‘rated’ to commercial success?
I’ve always been more into the alternative scenes, so by their very nature they would be under-rated by most, even if they’ve been big in there own genres.
One band I can think of is Dexy’s Midnight Runners - I know they had chart success with a couple of hits, but their early Soul Rebel stuff was mint, well worth more than just being remembered for Geno and Come on Eileen!

Queen and Fleetwood Mac. I know they are both mega bands but they are still under appreciated by too many and Fleetwood Mac became untrendy in the early 90s.

“7 days is too long“ is a track I still listen to all the time at the gym as is “There, there my Dear” 👍

Jacopo da Bologna was very highly rated for his madrigals in the mid to late 14th Century. His ideal was "suave dolce melodia" (sweet, gentle melody) and his style is marked by fully texted voice parts that never cross. The untexted passages which connect the textual lines in many of his madrigals are highly noteworthy. Alas, mint-condition copies of his singles go for unprecedented sums owing to them only being produced on niche labels. This was largely because there was nothing to play them on in his time.

Got offered tickets for the Cambridge(?) gig next weekend. Feel bad for turning them down as my mate really wanted us to go, but seen them plenty and it’s a long hike when they’re a bit down my list.
Latest album is very good, had written them off as pensioners trading on their reputation but it's one of their best IMO
