Motty RIP

My favourite commentator. Sad news.

That commentary when David Platt scored that volley at Italia 90 in the last minute of extra time will never be forgotten.

RIP

Sad news,

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with him a few years ago when he came to talk to students. He was a lovely bloke and very generous with his time. I had to pick him up and drive him so we had a great chat about Barnet and Blackpool on the way.

He went on a bit too long really, but in his prime if you wanted proper analysis and description of play with properly certified stats to back it up (before everything was available online) Motson was up there as one of the best alongside Brian Moore over on ITV

The magic of the FA Cup has long since gone but for me the greatest goal in the FA Cup was Ronnie Radford's, we have lost the scorer and the iconic commentator and the great Dickie Davies in such a short period.

RIP Motty

God Bless

Still one of my favourite pieces of commentaries at the end of one of the great matches. 'I've not seen a match like this in years...'

RIP.

Yes, I can't say I remember that line but I love football and racing and so many great goals/matches or races are made even greater by commentary lines that stick in our minds.

I guess that's what makes them great commentators.

I vividly remember it, we only got the highlights of the Euro 84 games late at night on BBC, this match was like magic beamed from another planet.

If certain music was the soundtrack of my youth then Motson's commentary was the football soundtrack
of my youth. By all accounts a wonderful man and the ultimate professional when it came to his job.
RIP John Motson.

Its a regularly trotted out trope that things were better in the old days
But in motty its absolutely true that his level of brilliance will probably never be reached again
Unlike modern commentators motty was a huge personality without ever trying to be.
Just a guy who loved ALL levels of football
Rip maestro

RIP Motty.
Must be a few on here recognise themselves from some of the crowd scenes??
I'm pretty sure that kid sprinting down the Kop terracing to celebrate the 1st goal is the 15 year old me!! 🧡

My Favourite Commentator, A true Gent and someone who loved his work.
Will never ever forget his commentary when we smashed Germany 5-1, 2001?
RIP Motty

R.I.P. John. Not my favourite commentator, that would have to be David Coleman for his diversity. However, so much better than they had on ITV like Clive ( titty lips) Tyldesley or anything that anyone has now.

It seems that some of today's commentators need to shout all the time. The likes of Motty, Davies and Sinstadt were measured and professional.
