Moving to Blackpool

Fellow Seasiders, I am looking to move to Blackpool and buy a house/flat. Looking for recommendations on which area you would recommend for a 1 or 2 bed house at a reasonable price? 180k ish would be my budget.

Ideally, I don't want to be somewhere where i'll get woken up by stag and hen parties so somewhere quiet-ish with a nice community feel.

Any help much appreciated.

For 180k you can get better than 1-2 bedrooms.

St Martin’s, St Luke’s, Stoney Hill and Harrington are all good roads in South Shore, plus others.

Very near shops, many bars and restaurants….. but set in a very quiet residential area.

Why don't you rent for a short while to get a feel of the town?
Or come for a week.
Everyone will like different areas as long as you avoid the the town centre.

I live in FY3 for £180 you can get a decent sized house with plenty of garden space but wouldn't want to live in anywhere else but that's just me.

I was brought up on St Luke’s and bought in FY3 (Herons Reach).

Both decent areas.

Not bad advice to rent for six months until you find your feet 👍👍

Yep, South Shore, plenty of options at that budget, good shops, pubs, eating etc...Highfield Rd is great these days for food and drink.

Very handy for the motorway as well, trouble with North Shore is you can add 1/2 hour on to a journey at busy times.

You could look at St Annes North if the right house came up but you'll pay more for basically the same area and there's nowt there.

+1 for South Shore here (and I live near the dodgy bit!). Plenty of parks, walk to the prom in 5 minutes, easy motorway access and great little restaurants dotted around.

Nothing in St.Annes compared to Highfield Road?

Agree, couldn't get much in FY8 though for 180k. Having said that, my sister has just bought a property near Lytham St.Annes High School for 160k but it's very small and needs so much work doing. You can get a decent house in Blackpool for that budget.

Not in St Annes North no and once you get further towards the square the prices rise.

Like you say, FY8 isn't worth the premium over South Shore.

My sister faced the exact problem. First time buyer and had to decide smaller house in St.Annes or move to South Shore around the airport. The Estate Agents were pressuring her to keep her FY8 post code and have a feeling she might regret her decision.

A lot depends on your situation. FY8 properties even at the low end of the market, offer more of an investment but I think that ship has sailed now with house prices generally falling.

There's no right or wrong answer and depends on your circumstances. I am just naturally biased towards FY8 as lived there all my life. I just have bad experiences of Blackpool and wouldn't want my kids growing up or having access to central parts of Blackpool but you'd be absolutely fine in South Shore, Stanley Park and I am sure other nice areas too. Roseacre seems a good school as well if lived in South Shore if I've got my Geography right.

Round the park is quite a bit rougher than South Shore and annoying in the summer.

Well I'm in temporary accomodation in South Shore at the moment waiting to move in to a house the south end of St Annes which is currently being renovated.
I can safely say I can't wait to leave South Shore and move down there.

You’ll get nowt in those addresses for that money.
Don’t waste his time, you naughty boy.

What's this North St, Annes & South St,Annes......
This place is so small, I'm just wondering where the lines are drawn
You realise you could be calling for gang warfare if theres and South St,Annes residents wandering into the others territory.

Look online mate. - you can 👍

…and look at the house I posted that’s for sale today!
I had 4 very happy years recently on Stony Hill. In my time there, a good number of properties came up for sale and all sold quickly, mine went in under 24 hrs. If there are any up for sale on Stony Hill today, they will be far above £180k.
You’re giving the lad false hope, re: Stony Hill.

Personally, I prefer the Cleveleys/Thornton end of town to South Shore (have lived there also)... but, as said above, all areas appeal to someone. For such a big move in your life, definitely worth a week or two's stay... trying out local pubs/eateries etc and visiting at different times of the day etc.

Guessing Poulton FY6 is a thing of the past Rusty 🤷‍♂️

I said four roads and put a current example up of 180k on St Martin’s!

Nothing else and nothing more.

The line is The Crescent, the Tennis Club Terrors rarely venture south past Atlas Kebabs in fear of the Royal Lytham Lynch Mob.

A Prince racket is no match for a Ping putter, they tried to get The Old Links Lynchers on board but they're allied to the Airport Runaways who have their hands full with The Trebaron Tosspots ever since the Battle of Queensway.

No one crosses Squires Gate of course.

The Headroom Gate Gangster Disciples have been running the manor for the last few years, since the Tennis club went down in a hail of Weathers
They have been dealing in high strength Tiger Balm and black market Metformin and running the South Central St, Annes area with an iron glove.

Carpet Martin is still running the Columbian Neighborhood Crips in Fairhaven.....Still the best quality marching powder in the Ship....🤗
He's keeping the peace between the disciples and the Ansdell Brotherhood from the big black market in Voltorol

It's a jungle over here......£180k for a 2 bed flat in Central gangland..........It's genteel South Shore for anyone looking for a new house
Although I do have a nice 3 bed terraced available in late April for £195k if anyone wants in on gangland?

Ansdell hasn't been the same since the Insane Institute Posse were taken out by the Forest Drive Fukabouts.

20 hours and 29 posts on and Peter hasn’t returned to his thread, I think you’ve all frightened him off and he’s decided to stay put 🤣
😂 nope, a big thank you to all for your insight and links etc, It's been really helpful :)

Much more useful than an estate agent trying to flog a 'cosy' property in a 'quirky' area. Not overly fussy, just don't want to be dodging xl bullies and hooded yoofs upon leaving the front door.

Good to hear it’s been useful, with your budget you’ll be able to get something really good on the Fylde coast. The best advice that’s been given is to try before you buy, when we moved back we rented, liked the area and bought somewhere within 150 metres after 3 months. Good luck with the move 👍

Edit to add that flats are well worth considering. Since Grenfell, and to a lesser extent the “race for space”, their price compared to houses has improved considerably and you get a lot more for your money
