Moxon

From the Carlisle MB ......"But why would he want to sign for a toxic club that in all liklihood will finish below us in the table. Their manager wont get to spend but a fraction of the Yates money either for Sadler ever since he came in its been pay out for this pay out for that and hes fallen out with just about everybody hes employed there and theyve left including his ex best mate. And on top of that he has a new stand to build and a 10 million quid trainning ground to pay for"

I know this reads like it was written by a 14 yr old but it is strange how we are perceived. The fact that a supposed bid for Moxon has been made public is virtually a guarantee that this is the players agent playing silly buggers.

Needs to go back to school

This is all about what the club think he's worth at the end of the day. We can afford £750k due the Yates sale, so if we want him badly enough then we can get him.
I agree with you, I think he's worth that and if he steps up with ease, which it appears that he will, then give it a couple of years and we could sell him on at a profit. Seems like a no brainer to me, but ultimately the club have plans we aren't privy to, so who knows what's gonna happen.
It is not a position we are short in and good strikers, are not cheap so why pay 750kgbp for an unproven L1 player when we may need to break the bank to get a, striker, particularly if Joseph is injured?

Why would Virtue only be worth 200k? They seem to want 900k of rumours are to be believed.

Virtue had a successful loan in league 1 and would probably get far more goals and assists in a team like ours this season, so surely should be worth more.
200k was the reported amount that he might be worth, but agree we might be able to get more!

I would rather spend the money on a striker, but if we want him we can afford him and I do think he's worth £750k. I will welcome anyone who improves the squad tbh.

I don't think many share that view, it just comes across as someone who is absolutely blinkered to reality. The truth is they just about dragged themselves out of L2. They're a bang average side with the likes of Calum Guy one of their better players. To think they'll finish above is both naive and laughable, I suspect within a few weeks reality will certainly hit home to this imbecile.

Why not both?

I know I’m sounding like a broken record here, but Owen Moxon is genuinely class, he’d instantly make us better and be a huge statement of intent.

He might not be what we need, but IMO you should never pass up talent when it become available and if we can get him for 750k or less we’d be stupid not to.

If we got 2.5 million from Yates we could easily afford Moxon for 750k and then another striker like Nombe for 750k while still having some left over.

Most fans are blinkered by reality, but most have at least been educated

400k sounded way too cheap even if Moxon does only have one year left, because them staying up a year is worth far more than that amount.

Nixon is a cereal liar but broken clocks etc…

I personally think that if Matty Virtue is headed out for 200k then it’s a no brainer to pay the 750k (effectively 550k) for Moxon, I truly think he’s that good.

People who are concerned about his ability because he’s in League 2 should remember that Moxon has done much more in that league than Jerry did when we bought him.

He’s absolutely in the category of a player who would step up to the Championship if we were to get promoted.
Jerry had scored a shedload of goals for Swindon, mainly provided by Keshi! To say Moxon has done much more is an exaggeration.

Me too, and who’s to stay we aren’t already working to get a striker either?

One of the biggest takeaways this summer has been that the club have worked in silence with no leaks at all.

We are definitely working on deals that no one knows about currently so it wouldn’t surprise me if we announced a striker out of nowhere!

I don’t think so.

In 31 League 2 matches during the 2019/2020 season Jerry scored 13 and assisted 1.

That’s 0.45 goal involvements a game.

In 45 League 2 matches during the 2022/2023 season Moxon scored 6 and assisted 16.

That’s 0.49 goal involvements a game.

Take into account that Moxon is playing in midfield and Yates plays up top and I don’t think it’s absurd at all to say that Moxon is a better player coming out of League 2 than Jerry was.

Speaking to a Carlisle fan on Twitter and he thinks it's somone on the board who have leaked it to try and start a bidding war. Apparantly they've done stuff like that before.
We have form for pulling out if we think we’re being used nowadays so it could backfire on them.

At this point, I hope we sign him just for you 😅

Fair point but it doesn't quite work like that. Transfer fees are subject to VAT so we receive just over £2m, and then new players get a signing on fee which will have taken chunks out of that income given we've signed half a dozen or so. There will be more incoming, including loans, so even if we do land Moxon that's not close of business.

As others have already said I would be more excited if he was a striker.
I was thinking our midfield was stronger than its been for ages. And quite excited at seeing our they perform this season.

Seems like they're more clueless on there than on here, which takes some doing

We should always be looking to improve on what we have, even if it's a position that seems well stocked. This isn't an either/or - with the money from yates we really should be able to improve several positions if the recruitment team is doing their job well.

We haven’t got any loans in yet either. Moxon is quality and might just m an we make it automatically.

For the past few years we’ve been after a physical midfielder who can drive forward with the ball. Moxon could be that player. He can pick a pass and is a set piece specialist too…. League 1 Charlie Adam perhaps ?

On the bench tonight for Carlisle. So he's still in their pre season plans.
Being on the bench could be because a move is immentent, let's see if he gets any minutes. It could also because he's got a slight knock or Simmo is just rotating his midfield. In short, we're all just guessing if we are still interested in him.

Agreed, but the focus should be on strikers and wingers, which I imagine it probably is.

Its just a friendly, I expect its just rotation so everyone gets the same mins. He played 60 mins in their last one so makes sense for him to get 30.

As somebody else said earlier, Moxon is this season’s Brannagan. He would be a good signing, but history has taught me not to raise my hopes.

Spot on if you ask me and you may not like it but you can't really argue with a single point made there.

It's complete hogwash.

?

Barnsley have pocketed a decent fee for a CB that went to Luton, Peterborough have a few quid from Norburn plus Taylor going to Ipswich, beyond that there haven't been any "big money" sales by L1 clubs, so the pool of clubs who might be interested and able to afford Moxon is relatively small.
Peterborough are in sell before they can buy territory. Not sure Barnsley are that much better off.

So there really are no L1 clubs who are going to pay the £750k that Carlisle want, and I have my doubts whether any of the bigger Championship clubs are going to be that interested in a player who was playing in Scottish League Two just over a year ago.
