Nathan Jones backed into 5/2 with Skybet

Found Jones utterly objectionable and the fact he ditched Luton at the first offer from another club means he's not the manager for me. We have to bring in someone who'll at least see through the job if they got us promoted.

I would like Nathan jones but he must hate us

He was captain of the Yeovil team we beat in the 2007 play off final
He played for Cardiff and is a Cardiff fan
And
He was the manager of Luton that Bowyers lot beat over two legs in the play offs.

As I have said on another thread, Nathan Jones would be my first choice. Immense for Luton. Yes he jumped ship, but may well have learnt from that that the grass aint always greener

Came across a bit of an arsehole after the Luton second leg if I recall, did a fantastic job at Luton and well we all know he didn’t at Stoke.

He wouldn’t be my first choice but an appointment I’d be okay with, rather him then Heckingbottom for starters

You could accuse him of jumping ship or perhaps being a young ambitious manager who is driven to succeed.

I have no issue with this

The majority of managers have left one club to move to a bigger one.
Shankley, Fergie, klopp, the list is almost endless

How loyal are football clubs?

Loyalty is to number 1, that is you and your dependants. Treat everyone else with respect, I think he treated Luton respectfully.

Nobody is going to stay at Blackpool if a bigger Club comes along. So it doesn’t matter who the manager is from that perspective, there’s no loyalty in football, so pointless kidding ourselves.

Losing players / managers is the price you pay for success or failure

Sweet Jesus, yeah guess he will absolutely detest us in that case 😳

If SS takes any notice of fans opinion, there is only one appointment he can make. He wants the gig, we want him and he is BFC through and through. Come on in Evo.👍

We absolutely have to get over the idea that anyone would stay at Blackpool over a bigger club and more money because they're loyal or they love the club or any other reason. It just does not happen.

Whoever we appoint might leave if he does well. Don't get too attached.

Which would mean he had done good & we would be enjoying our football.... reasonable trade..

There is absolutely no loyalty in football whatsoever and contracts are not worth the paper they’re written on unless compensation is required. If a footballer wants a move he will sulk and go on almost strike until his move is forced through, whereas a manager will be handsomely rewarded for his failure upon being sacked. Steve McClaren must be worth an absolute fortune!

What do you think Warnock would bring other than the same boring dinosaur style of play that Grayson served up? I assume you would have been happy with Grayson staying in charge if you would like Warnock to come?!
He'd bring a formation. An actual formation. A plan A. Not sure if you noticed or if you've been asleep over the years. But he's one of the most successful managers in league football? With multiple promotions on his record. You can't even compare him with Grayson.

I don't think Warnock would come at this stage of his career, he wants a director / mentor role and a commute from the south west, however you can't argue with his CV and his style of play is nowhere near as bad as it is reputed to be.
Jones for me, good football in lower divisions, young , hungry and passionate.
The recent failure a Stoke will only help him be more focused and determined, you learn a lot from failure (if you're bright) and understands that you can't afford two consecutive failures ( a reason why we should never had appointed Grayson)

TD — that is not true. Years ago warnock managed sheff United and they were fantastic to watch. He played with two strikers and 3 on the bench. He often ended up with all 5 on the pitch. Kabba, webber, David Johnson, Neil shipperly Danny cadamarteri etc.... Other players he had were Tonge, jagielka, Morgan.

When asked by a journo why he has now turned to a more expansive, exciting football he simply said 'I have the players now.....'

well I hope SS has more sense than to listen to a few fans . Hope he looks at who would be good for BFC & take advice from professional people who know the people & the game over & above that of fickle childish fans who change their minds more often than their pants . From Graysons tangerine army To Grayson Out, & back again then back out again in the space of 20 mins on Tues🙄

Ok that's fair enough but how far back are you going to his Sheffield United days?

Watching his Cardiff team was boring and seemed very much long ball or play for set-pieces.

Grayson played decent football in his first spell here, he's since changed and assume that's what happened with NW.

TD - I'm not saying I want warnock at all. I want a younger, energetic manager. I was saying he is more flexible in his approach than the media like to portray.

Someone quoted duncan ferguson, it won't happen because of his wage and he is now learning from a legend of management. But for me that would be perfect and would tick so many boxes.

Pretty sure Warnock is going to be pie in the sky as he's on record as saying he's retiring at the end of this season isn't he? The only way I could see Warnock as worthwhile is if Sadler was looking at appointing him as an eventual director of football sort of role - as Stanah suggested earlier.

I could, in theory, see this working:
  • Warnock in for the rest of the season as manager, to steady the ship and to get an understanding of the club.
  • At the same time involve him heavily in sorting out his replacement, then move him upstairs to be the director of football.
  • If we got someone younger with potential like Evo this might be an ideal solution. Warnock could act as a mentor of sorts - there when Evo wants some experienced advice, but generally hands off on the day to day.
  • Key longer term role would be to concentrate on the strategic direction of the club from the footballing side. I think this sort of role would be quite beneficial upstairs to compliment the business experience already on the board.
This sort of set up would be my ideal, not saying it needs to be Warnock as I don't think that is likely, but it'd be a nice set up to try out.

Evatt would be my first choice.. but a lot of that is sentimental value as he's such a legend

Initally wasn't overly keen on Jones but having looked into his record at Luton more I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with him!

Taken from his Wikipedia page
- He left Luton with the highest Football League points per game ratio of any manager in their history
- Luton's win over Cambridge meant they became the first team in the history of the English Football League to score seven or more goals on three occasions before Christmas.

We were lucky to win by 2 goals under Grayson!!

If we are going for someone like Jones then why don't we give him a contract to the end of the season and let him prove himself. If he gets the team playing well and winning then he's earned a contract. If not then re-visit Evatt or other potential candidates.

Because someone who has already shown undoubted success, recently, at this level shouldn't have to work under such circumstances..... and most likely won't.

That's a fair comment but he was an undoubted failure at Stoke. TBH it's a minefield when recruiting a manager/coach I thought Grayson would do ok given his track record but the public humiliation he endured at Sunderland looks like it took it's toll. I do think the new ownership at the club makes us an attractive proposition so it pays to take the time to find the right man.

I'd prefer for us to muddle through to the end of the season with Dunn, who can't do any worse than Grayson, if it means we put in the leg work to ensure the absolute best person available gets the job.

The season is as good as over now, there's no point rushing a decision.

Having said all that, I'd be very very happy with Jones or Evatt getting the job tonight.
