If we changed then the actual anthem would hardly ever get played, especially at the major sporting events apart from the Olympics. Apart from thinking we should keep it because I'm a Royalist we should keep it because generally speaking it pisses of the fans/people of the other home nations.
 
National anthem singing is bloody awful full stop. I actually don't mind it after winning a gold medal in the Olympics but every nation singing these dreadful ancient old tunes before every match is just boring.

At least God God Save the King is quick and over with. Some on here clamoring for 4 verses of 19th century church hymns like Jerusalem or I Vow to Thee makes me feel cold. The lyrics are like something from a Dickens novel.

Modernise it if we have to have one. What about the Eastenders tune? Everyone knows it. No lyrics just der der der der der, der der.
 
Regardless if you're a monarchist or not, it is a dreadful national anthem.

I have some reservations about “I vow to thee my country”. The music is sublime, adapted by Gustav Holst from Jupiter in his Planets Suite. But the words, written in 1918 by a diplomat, Sir Cecil Spring Rice, are an emotive attempt to justify/commemorate the deaths of a million men in the Great War. As if those deaths were necessary on a religious plane rather than the result of cynical politics and, some might say, class divisions. The music is stirring but the words are misleading, even if written with a spiritual intent.

Absolutely. Its not a national anthem but a veneration of an individual. It needs ditching not just by England but by the UK in general as a national anthem. It could still be used on royal occasions only similarly to the Presidential march in the USA.
 
Was thinking this. Boring ** dirge and i reckon these days 80% of people arent religious and a large number think the royal family are a bunch of ****.

Wales anthem is ** epic.

Either Land of hope and glory or Jerusalem for me.
 
I don't mind the Royal Family, they do what they do and bring tourism in so leave em to it but GSTK should never be a national anthem. I personally don't sing it although I'll respect it always but it should be about England not about a single person. Jerusalem for me.
 
Have never sang this derge/ode to royalty, it has nothing whatsoever to do with England.
Dislike our Royals immensely, selfish, sponging media whores the lot of them 😠
 
We need a proper anthem like France about slaughtering our enemies and letting their blood flow through the streets. Lovely.
 
Jerusalem would be a funny one for a national anthem, given that the lyrics are from a Blake poem shitting on the state of the country and calling for a revolution.

On second thoughts, it might be quite apt!😂
