Neil Critchley on being overcome with emotion.

Pool’s head coach was seen wiping away a tear after celebrating with the 2,000 travelling fans following Saturday’s 1-0 win at Bramall Lane.

The victory, Pool’s third on the spin, sees the Seasiders move up to sixth place in the Championship table.
“I love it,” Critchley told The Gazette when asked about his emotional response to Blackpool’s win.
“I love coming here, I love what we’re doing, I love being around this group and staff, and I love looking up and seeing Simon (Sadler, owner), Brett (Gerrity, director) and Ben (Mansford, chief executive) supporting us.
“It’s good times at the moment for the football club and we want that to continue, but I can assure you none of us get carried away. You can’t afford to.
“We’ve got our feet firmly on the floor and we play with no ego, you can see that.
“There’s no arrogance with the way we play, everyone puts a shift in and we all work hard together and that’s why we’ve been successful, so that won’t change.”
It was another memorable away day for the Seasiders, who tasted victory at Bramall Lane for the first time since 1977.
Blackpool’s fans sang non-stop throughout, even during the first half when their side came under non-stop pressure.
Speaking of the atmosphere, Critchley added: “Brilliant, wasn’t it?
“We were saying before the game what an atmosphere it would be and we actually said how great it would be to score at that end to see the supporters celebrate.
“They obviously went bonkers and rightly so, because Blackpool is a club that hasn’t won here for a few years. So to come here, in this type of occasion, and win is a special day.
“What pleased me most is that, against Nottingham Forest, I didn’t feel we were ourselves that day in a big atmosphere – but on this occasion we were.
“In the first 20 minutes, we played some really good football.
“They got on top of us after that but I was really pleased with the courage, the composure and the maturity we showed.”
With Critchley refusing to get too carried away, attention now turns to Wednesday night’s home game against Stoke City.
The Seasiders then take on QPR in front of the Sky Sports camera on Saturday evening before another international break.
“We’ve got two massive games coming up, starting with Stoke who are another big club with ambitions of going up to the Premier League,” Critchley said.
“We said to the players at the start of this run of games, it will give us a good guide of where we might be looking and we’ve started that little run with a fantastic victory, but we’ve got two tough games to come.”

“In the first 20 minutes, we played some really good football."

He saw it differently to many then!

Money talks - if a prem club came in, or a top end championship club I would worry.

He is just like any other person who will want to provide the best for his family.

Do not kid yourself, and I do not blame him!

It will happen at some point, but I'm not as sure we're as exposed as some might think...

For starters most managerial appointments are made because the side is doing poorly.... So why choose a Championship Club or even a Premier League Club that is flirting with relegation?

Money, is one reason, but then I can also see SS breaking the budget to keep NC (I know I would)..

So realistically you are looking at either a Club who has lost their manager to someone else (unlikely) or you are looking at an established Championship or Premier League Club, who is unsatisfied with mediocrity and looking to push on... Maybe a Club that has recently changed owners or looking for a change in managerial direction.... Fortunately those types of changes tend to be made in the close season.

He clearly has his head screwed on and will likely look to Klopp for career advice.... Klopp was at Mainz for 7 years ? for his first Managerial Appointment?

So long as we can match his ambition and challenge in this league, I think we may be surprised...... I can genuinely see him eventually succeeding Klopp at Liverpool, but he needs to be very cute / switched on about the jobs he does take.... There's plenty of poison chalices out there.... He's in a very good place right now, with a lot of control and influence, a great set of fans who encourage and allow a side to play without fear and an owner / board who are very much aligned with his way of doing things.....

If he gets offered enough dosh he will be gone. Some of the salaries at the top end of the championship are madness.

I also wouldn’t want to keep him if he was just staying for the money.

That said, I hope the day he leaves is a very very long long time away.

I want him here as long as possible, but of course one day he will move on.

We were talking about it last night. When he does move, he has to be very careful about the job he chooses. Virtually all of the prem and one could easily name a dozen clubs in the second tier or lower than would be viewed as a "bigger club", whatever that means The ones outside the prem especially, chasing the pot of gold and spending daft to try and make it.

So many manager appointments now are that short term because instant success is expected. We're not unique against that, but we're bloody rare.

If he took one of those clubs famous for their short term approach, he'd be lucky to last a year with them, while the club settled into his ways and philosophy. Could turn into someone who seemed to have it all ready to happen for him but never quite did because he wasn't there long enough.

Fortunately I think and hope that Critch is savvy enough to only take the right job when he feels the time has come. Until then he's happy here.

100 % agree with all of this.

Critch is very much in the right place at the right time for his career and for this club too. Everything he says suggests he knows it. His first proper managerial post where he is getting masses of support from an owner who is new and ambitious too. With supporters who are right behind the owner, him and team and loving the new start we have been given. And managing a great set of players, many of whom have great potential there to be developed by him, and at one level down from the top flight of the domestic game. It's an almost perfect situation for Critch, and for me I really believe this is a partnership with a good number years in it. I think it would take something really exceptional for him to walk away from this.

I agree with him. We started brightly enough and then got pushed back a little, without really coming under that much goal threat. They were neat and trying little triangles, but we coped.

I didn't agree with Alamo comparisons on Saturday and still don't.
I agree pretty much, but after bossing the first 5 minutes Sheff gradually became stronger. Between about 25 and 35 they were well on top.

Don't disagree. They were, but a lot of their play petered out as they got to our area, as they played a pass too many, or we got a foot in. Where I felt we could have done better is retaining it when we did have it. We didn't play it out that well, and brought additional pressure on ourselves, that they never really capitalised on. The one good chance they had in the first half for me, was the shot that went just past the post. The keeper was never getting anywhere near. Other than that, their efforts on goal were of the standard that you would have been really disappointed if they'd gone in, if you know what I mean.

At the start of the second half we were a little more stretched, but again, they missed in good places.

For once, we had two good chances, the Bowler free kick that I thought Madine should have got a touch on, and the Keshi goal. We capitalised, they didn't.

Yes I don't disagree with that. We also had an excellent chance in the first half made by Hubby, Yates just need a touch a yard out from goal.

I feel we are a top end Championship club, and if we carry on like this, Neil Critchley will take The Mighty Pool into The Premiership for next season.

I love NC's passion and honesty but it's the whole structure that's been put in place by Sadler that really impresses.
There is a great togetherness here from top to bottom and after 30 years of the O's I'm still having to pinch myself that this is really happening.
The set up we have now is what most fans fantasise about surely.

He is at an ambitious club. I dont understand why people arent getting this. Sadler is as ambitious as any owner in our division. So why would Critch go elsewhere ?

Unless a top six well established prem team come in with a big offer it would not make sense for him to leave at all.

This talk of him going possibly to another Championship side doesnt make sense. He could leave and be out of a job in 6 months.

People underestimate the value of having a great supportive employer who shares your ambition. Critch loves coming to work at BFC why would he give all that up and risk falling out with a new club and owner possible clash of personalities etc and all the pressure that comes with being on big wages and employer expectations.

I dont see Critch as mercenary gun for hire type. Money isnt everything.

I know what you are saying but for some people it isn't just about money or ego.
Best thing for his family might be Neil Critchley living in the North West of England, at a club where he is appreciated, trusted and happy. No doubt earning a pretty good wedge.
Alternatively he uproots his family to somewhere like Norwich, Southampton or Middlesbrough and they chew him up and spit him out within a year knocking his career completely off course.
Ultimately he will leave but I get the feeling he isn't the sort of person who will insist on leaving for the first club that doubles or trebles his money.

I wish I had written that ❤⚽

I disagree One. I think he's cleverer than that. I think he wants a significant CV behind him before jumping ship and I think he wants to do well by his staff, his employers and the fans.

We all have our part to play
it’s easy to love him , the team and the board whilst things are as positive as they are now

but a few bad results on and then our unfailing support will tell them all we are with them for the long haul
we’ve done it before and will do it again .. and its just the best team to support in the land , no matter what
