They had two extra players in midfield. Tactically, NC didn't respond to that and it showed all matchCritchley definitely didn't do enough. The midfield was as poor as ever and he has failed to address it's shortcomings all season.
Pool are workmanlike but lack quality in midfield where there is little creativity and very few goals. Critchley makes far too many mistakes tactically. They had two extra players in midfield. Tactically, NC didn't respond to that and it showed all match
Doesn't help when we have Virtue, Anderson, CJ and Stewart all injured and both Embleton and KK underperformed last night. Embleton and kai kai would get 5/10 between them last night...passengers at best nad how Mitchell wasnt on at half time is baffling...the substitutions last night reached a new nadir...awfulDoesn't help when we have Virtue, Anderson, CJ and Stewart all injured and both Embleton and KK underperformed last night. Aye that’s why we’re 5th, he makes far too many mistakesPool are workmanlike but lack quality in midfield where there is little creativity and very few goals. Critchley makes far too many mistakes tactically.
Embleton wasn't in Sunderland's first team for a reason, inconsistent and not good enough. Stewart would replace the woeful Dougall. Anderson doesn't offer much and Kaikai is a luxury we can't afford. CJ has pace as an outlet but little else. Virtue is average and not the answer. The midfield needs a total revamp in the summer.Doesn't help when we have Virtue, Anderson, CJ and Stewart all injured and both Embleton and KK underperformed last night. ...and far from entertained, unless you like negative formations and lack of flair and goals. We're 5th but god knows how other than Calderwood's influence on our defence.Aye that’s why we’re 5th, he makes far too many mistakes
I agree, I'm Mr Negativity at the best of times but it might be the kick we needed, and the actual damage was luckily minimal.Wasn't good enough last night and he admits that. I'm a broken record here but hope we see the return of the 4-2-3-1 after this.
Might be perfect timing to get a loss like that, a rocket up their arses and 5 games to set it right before the play-offs.
We’ve played some entertaining and attacking football, this is League One, they’ve just done over a third of the season unbeaten, 5th in the league, not sure what you are expecting....and far from entertained, unless you like negative formations and lack of flair and goals. We've played very little attacking and entertaining football this season. It's not what we were promised. We’ve played some entertaining and attacking football, this is League One, they’ve just done over a third of the season unbeaten, 5th in the league, not sure what you are expecting.
That's where we get back to the lack of quality in midfield. Little in the way of creativity and goals. Needs a total revamp this summer. His summary was exactly as I saw it. Poor in the first 20 min. Grew into the game . Dominated the 2nd half but couldn't break down the eleven men they put behind the ball. Stated himself that crosses were poor all match.
That is why we struggle against poorer teams who put eleven men behind the ball. Critch needs to find tactics to overcome that.
Not sure what you want? I've been entertained all season. For the first time in a decade I can actually see a shape in the team, not just an amorphous mass chasing the ball like an u7s team. We've played very little attacking and entertaining football this season. It's not what we were promised.
Just cos you don't know how doesn't mean others don't....and far from entertained, unless you like negative formations and lack of flair and goals. We're 5th but god knows how other than Calderwood's influence on our defence.
What did an Oyston offer you when you were busy going? We've played very little attacking and entertaining football this season. It's not what we were promised.
