New Signing - Daniel Kemp

Not perhaps the solid centre midfielder a few of us thought we needed, going by the West Ham website description - " A diminutive attacking midfielder or winger". I'd thought we were ok in that department but I'm also sure NC and his team know a damn site more than me about building a squad...

Seems he could be exempt from the salary cap given his age. I know nothing about him but I'm sure will be a tidy little player. I was hoping a defender or 2 would be the priority but welcome to the club Dan!

Maybe West Ham agreed to loan him for nowt to get him some experience and some time with Critchley? Doesn't feel like a player we really needed.

The more players we bring in, the more I am convinced the board have given Critch the green light to totally overhaul the squad to the extent where I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone & everyone leave who was here last season, Turton & Nottingham aside due to them signing new contracts. We'll see a few more signings yet, I'm sure of it.

When we signed Bez one of the first thoughts I had was that Kaikai might be on his way.

A diminutive attacking midfielder or winger, Dan Kemp moved to West Ham United from Chelsea in November 2015.

Kemp, who had joined the Blues at the age of six, quickly impressed in Claret and Blue and his initial one-year scholarship was turned into a three-year contract in July 2016.

Capped by England at U19 and U20 levels, Kemp was also part of the U21 squad which lifted the Premier League Cup in May 2016.

2018/19

Returned from long-term injury in October 2018, starting eight consecutive Premier League 2 Division 1 fixtures on his comeback...Started the EFL Trophy group-stage defeat at Yeovil Town on 6 November 2018...Scored two goals and assisted a third in the 5-3 Premier League 2 Division 1 win at Manchester City on 5 January 2019...Netted in the 3-1 Premier League 2 Division 1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers on 3 March 2019...Scored two goals in a 3-0 Premier League 2 Division 1 win at Swansea City on 11 March 2019...Netted his sixth of the season from the penalty spot in a 1-0 Premier League 2 Division 1 win over Leicester City on 7 April 2019.

2017/18

Started the season as a regular in Premier League 2 Division 1, scoring and assisting goals in the victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City in August 2017...Grabbed the winner in the 3-2 EFL Trophy win at Swindon Town on 15 August 2017...Made his England U19 debut in a 2-2 friendly draw with Slovakia in Senec on 9 October 2017...Totaled ten Premier League 2 Division 1 appearances, scoring two goals and assisting two more...Suffered a season-ending injury in late November 2017...Signed a new three-year contract on 6 June 2018.

2016/17

Started the season in fine fettle for the U18s and took his chance once provided by U23s boss Terry Westley to impress in Premier League 2...Scored in the 4-0 hammering of Wolves in December and became a key player for Westley's side, helping the U23s clinch promotion, appearing 20 times and scoring two goals...Also appeared twice in the Checkatrade Trophy...Progression during the course of the season was noticed by England bosses, who selected him for the Toulon Tournament in May 2017...Made his England age-group debut in their opening victory over Angola and helped the Young Lions go on to win the trophy.

2015/16

Played a mixture of U18s and U21s football in first season with the Hammers...Scored in four consecutive fixtures starting with a goal against Aston Villa on 16 January 2016...Strikes against Southampton, Swansea and Brighton followed...Also bagged in the play-off stages against former club Chelsea and then Reading...Was on target for the Development Squad in a 4-1 win at Newcastle's St. James' Park in March 2016.

If he's replacing Feeney or even Ward then it makes sense.

Edit to add: He is more than likely someone who Critch is well aware of from his Liverpool Academy coaching days and who he rates highly.

wish we sign couple of experiene players who know this league , or have championship experience
worrying to many youngsters
who is the leader on the pitch , spearing would of been ideal to lead on the pitch
just my opinion thou
Maxwell Husband & Thorniley all have Championship experience. So does Madine & Feeney if they stick around.
This team left Spearing behind as soon as we started bringing new players in.

Why do so many have a down on Feeney? He did a really good job for us last season and in one of the friendlies I saw,not the one where they played him out of position on the left for some strange reason,he showed he is still a decent player.
I think it's probably more to him being a higher earner (I'm assuming) and it would make sense to move a player on who's earning a good wage and isn't going to be a regular.

I think we have moved on a pace from the likes of Feeney, look at the other wingers we've brought in and they all have pace and/or power, they're direct and run at the fullback, qualities which Feeney is lacking.

Scrafton just said that he doesn't count towards the 22 player cap so we might not be getting rid of anyone.
I saw him say that he doesn't count towards the salary cap, but he didn't mention if he will count towards the 22 man squad. I wish the EFL would clear up this grey area. Previously it has been stated that all loans, even under 21s would count as a squad place.

In another tweet he said that he will double check, but he believes he is exempt from the player cap as he was still only 20 on January 1st. He knows better than me about this. I've given up trying to understand all the rules about under 21.

They won't come with the salary cap Championship players anymore unless they are desperate for a club.
Two grand a week is hardly going to entice them to drop down a league.

No way Kaikai leaves, I’m expecting him to be our star player this season, he’s a class above if he stays fit

Riva, Rivera, Kemp....I seem to recall despite his un-Italian sounding name our Fred had some Italian blood in him and could play for Italy - had he been asked. Am I making this up or remembering correctly?

I'd read previously that ALL loan players counted towards the cap and the squad size but that was only from a newspaper article.
I still can't find anything definitive on this.
So when you read this Scafters can you publish a copy of the EFL rules please?

I read the same thing so was surprised when he said it before. The EFL really do need to put the ruels out so we all know whats going on. Yet again, piss poor management from the which isn't surprising.

Which article was it, mate? Everything I've read implies that ALL U21s are exempt from the salary cap/squad number restrictions - if so (hopefully), it's a very shrewd move from NC
