New Training Ground announcement?

He said in autumn at the open training session, so it'll be in the next week's sometime.

Mansford said in his recent interview with the SLO....'in the next few weeks' I don't think he literally meant in two weeks time. I expect they will announce it by the end of the year.....lot of pieces to the jigsaw.

Then why not say in the next few months ?

I think everyone needs to relax. The training ground is clearly a high priority for SS and as we know and have seen SS always delivers. They will need to get planning permission, undertake environmental surveys, traffic management plans etc on the preferred site ( believed to be the old St Mary's school on Garstand Rd opposite 'Play Football'). Then there is the contract tender process to build it, finalising the design etc. All these activities take time and are not done overnight. It seems to me they want all this sorted before they announce it to the fans which I prefer rather than some half arsed announcement that this is were we want it to be but have still got this this and that to do etc. Mansford has said they hope to announce it soon and I'm sure they will....we have waited all these years so another few weeks hardly makes a difference does it?

Sure they’ve decided already who is building the TG & East stand. The design won’t have changed in 2 years, only the TG location. Hope the full planning application moves along at pace when it is submitted.

It might well be the same company who built Pool Foot for the Cods....im sure I read somewhere that when SS and BM visited they were very impressed not only with the site overall but the quality of the build and how it came in on budget.

Your right pal....got them mixed up.

It was St Tom's and St Catherine's then joind up to become All Saints. Amalgamated again and was a mixture of All Saints and St Mary's kids from about 1983. They used both St Walburgas Rd and Garstang Rd sites. I left in 1986. Garstang Rd building was knocked down in the mid 90s.

If they build the training ground there every credit, but God help the players if they have to do cross country through all the dykes in the middle of winter like we had too 🤣

21/12 is winter solstice (the shortest day) but I think December is a winter month.
I would regard Autumn to be September to November

The traditional and official first day of winter is December 21st. The 1st December is what is now referred to as the meterological first day of winter…

So it depends whether Ben was being meteorological or astronomical....

Also that's the end of Autumn so likely be before any of these dates.

One thing we can say for sure is....

Waste of money if you ask me…

I can understand having suitable facilities, but I don’t see any point going OTT unless we have money to burn.
I would imagine Sadler will be building something that won't just be for single usage by the Football Club and will be looking to generate some income from it.
I think businessman that he is he knows something about money and investments.

Can’t imagine many will agree.

If the faculties are built to last say 50 years and can help us develop just 20 players in that time who sell for £1 million then it pays for itself.

Not to mention money saved paying to rent pitches, transport players around, pay for rehab and gym facilities etc.

If the club can increase to a level 2 or level 1 academy it guarantees a larger fixed compensation fee when a bigger club poaches our kids. It also allows us to poach those same kids from smaller clubs for a fixed fee too. Those ‘better’ players we can then poach arguably have a better chance to become players we can sell on at a profit once developed.

If you’re a footballer your working week is spent at the training ground, in the gym, getting rehab, physio etc. For the sake of your short career you want to enjoy the environment you’re working in and you also want to know the facilities and staff are in place to let you use your full potential. Facilities like this attract both professionals and talented kids not to mention top coaches too.

Also allows the club to make money leasing the facilities to the community, hosting clubs and teams from other parts of the country and abroad when playing around the NW.

Poolfoot Farm and Mill Farm make Fleetwood and AFC Fylde money in many ways. All top clubs spend serious amounts of money on these facilities. They’re not a vanity project but an essential part of a modern stable clubs business model

Nah it’s a big Waste of money…Totally unnecessary to spend anything like that.

As for ‘an investment’ - I’m sure there are better ways to invest money.

The money would be better spent on upgrading the East Stand IMHO.

FWIW, I agree that it's a waste of money at 12mill. No need.

If anything actually does happen, and I have my doubts in the next 5 years at least, it will to buy Poolfoot at a knock down price.

12m or 3m(perhaps). 9m on the East would be better use.

Good to see that at least one person on this thread knows what he is talking about, well two maybe, Insider and LA

Fair points, but not sure it'll need to be 3 times or double poolfoot.

Can’t do that really until Henry Street is demolished.

I’ve always wondered why they didn’t move the ground 20 yds further Eest when they started the 2-side development (West and North).

I wouldn’t know….

Either way, spunking £12m on a training facility would be unnecessary.
Yeah, the area isn’t big enough currently to do anything with it as the houses back into the alleyway directly behind the east. Also, I was under the impression that Firwoods would need to go on the north east corner. Something those who shall not be named were looking to do for some time I believe.

I could be wrong but doesn't the rating of the academy effect the amount of compo you get when players are stolen by Premier League clubs.

Thus, in a way, seen as we seem to have 1 per year nabbed before we ever get to see them, that would be revenue stream in and of itself.

Again, I could be wrong.

I'm sure in 99% of cases when you buy a football club you don't buy it to make money. You can however waste your money or spend it wisely.
Personally I think Simon Sadler know's what he's doing.

Correct and I think it's mentioned higher up this thread.

Of course it isn’t Simon that has posted above 😉

They moved the pitch North and a little to the West I believe so there was adequate room for the East they initially had planned. If you look at old aerial photos you can see quite how tight a space the scratching sheds and old South actually fitted into. I believe it was also rotated a few degrees too as the scratching sheds were about 50% deeper at the North end as they were at the South.
