New tram extension terminus

Give it time. There's a lot of development on the horizon in Blackpool and a co-ordinated transport infrastructure needs to be a part of that. Even at its most basic, the North Station link will benefit me in Cleveleys. If I want to travel anywhere in Britain by train my first journey at present is either a taxi or a lift to Poulton station. With this tram extension I can walk round the corner to the tram stop and get right up to North station.
Agree, o live in Cleveleys opposite a tram stop, but I’d probably still drive to Poulton and park.

New artwork at least

Is she farting or peeing?

The only people that arrive at Blackpool North are stag and hen parties - this isn't Westminster.

"Those arriving by train" my arse. What about regenerating locals streets, parks and schools for local people?
Think you're being a little negative here, I agree those should be done and some are and I hope they will be.

The reason Blackpool has a bad rep is because of the areas tourists visit. So improving them allows us to change the image faster and attract more investment.

This is one of many projects.

With regards to road and parks, Look at my post above with the Revoe plan, the plan is just that, street improvements to central drive and more green spaces, trees to break up the monotony.

Fantastic piece of engineering. Blackpool leads the way yet again, another good thing to come out of it, is an extension to the world famous free illuminations. Wonder what the station will be called gaynal, LBGSTATION or a normal one like Talbot Rd.

Take no notice in all the years he's posted on here, NEVER posted anything positive about our wonderful town honestly don't know why he lives here.👎

Here's the article. (£10K a tree)

Yes I dont know how much is normally costs to plant trees in a town centre but they had to make sure the roots didn't expand the wrong way or something.

It was too much really.

People do want trees in town though to improve the image but it shouldn't cost that much.

At least with the other being planted they can quickly drop them into verges etc.

You'd have to be the laziest fecker in Blackpool to wait for a tram at Talbot Square to take you to the new Holiday Inn. Barely 5 minutes walk.
I remember going to cubs in the early 60s and catching a tram along Dickson Rd to the old North Station. Fare was a penny ha'penny each way.

You'd have thought that once they found out that the vast bulk of the £100000 was to prevent the roots growing into the roadway, they'd have had a rethink about how to improve the look of Cookson Street.

I don't think it's a prerequisite for potential tram goers to stop at the Holiday Inn to be fair.

Surely other town and cities have this issue, so it can't cost them that much when they do it....

As an exile, who arrives at North Station, I thought they would have had an integrated bus terminus with the trams. Presently they go from all over the place and change their stops in the centre quite regularly.

For anyone who doesn't know Blackpool, it's a taxi or wander around with a heavy suitcase asking where a bus to wherever starts from. If they're lucky, it's not Corporation Street or Market Street.

Money doesn’t grow on trees. How much is it going to cost to maintain the trees in the future and sweep the leaves up so the council don’t get sued if somebody slips on wet leaves
Other places and other areas of the town manage just fine with trees.

If people can't walk without falling on leaves then they don't deserve to be upright.

Falling on leaves is much better than fal on the pavement, they at least provide a cushion.

He lives in Cleveleys as he said above.

Same reason I'm not saying much as I live in LSA, but have fond memories of playing football in North station on quiet nights, sometimes we didn't get kicked out.

I rarely visit the tc these days as it's a complete dump- that needs sorting before you'll get Mum and Dad with Timmy and Jane along with Grandma Sharon Grandpop Ryan Nana Chezney and 'Uncle' Gary here, well not for the last 4 perhaps.

Boris is here tomorrow and he’s got plenty of kids.

Not a complete dump, ceder and st johns square are nice.

Other parts fine, things improving.

Yes the dossers need dealing with but not easy to sort, in every town they always go where the high footfall is.

Can only improve areas and try and attract better with a more prosperous area.

I've never had any issues in town.

Hope that's not directed at me FCB.

£24m the council spent on that tramline up Talbot road.

Just plain crazy. 🤬
This was not paid for by our council tax. It was a government grant aimed at improving transport links. If we hadn't applied for the grant another town would have got it, so why would we not apply for it? It's there for generations to come and there are plans for the trams to run through the Central Car Park development too.

So what about the hundred grand on ten trees? Was that a Government grant as well?

Quite right, and the funding bid would've been fully appraised to assess the benefits and to ensure it represented value for money.

Not sure, this was a thread about the tram extension wasn't it? Btw if you look into 'treegate' the cost wasn't just for the trees was it?
Blackpool council paid just short of £5m towards the tram extension it wasn’t all paid for by a grant.

Do you work for the council by any chance?
No I do work 30 seconds away from this development and it's been great to see it go up. It's not just a tram terminus, it's a 5 star hotel and world renowned restaurant. Add this project to all of the ongoing and future regeneration and it's just shy of £1bn worth of investment, surely that's a positive to a town that was on it's arse in the 90's/00's? I just don't understand the negativity to a town trying to drag itself out of the gutter.

I’ve already rehashed my reply so apologies.
I’am not against redeveloping the town because as you say it certainly needs it but it may thrive in some in some areas but let’s it’s self down in others.

This is just not practical.

Imagine a scenario where 2 families of visitors, with say 2 adults and 2 small children in each family arrive on the train. It is raining heavily as it tends to in this area of the country. One family takes the tram and the other family opt for a taxi. For those going by taxi the taxi driver will put the luggage in the boot of the taxi and drop them off at the front entrance to their hotel. This family only need to know the name of their hotel, not where it is.

The other family who have chosen the tram, first of all need to know whether their hotel is North or South of Talbot Road, in order get on the correct tram. Then they need to know exactly where their hotel is located, in order to advise the conductor where they will be getting off. Unfortunately, if their hotel is right between 2 stops when the tram stops to let them off they will have to walk the rest of the way. Walking a few hundred yards along the Promenade is quite pleasant on a warm dry summer’s day but remember they have luggage and 2 small children to look after and it is still raining heavily. Of course they are now on the coast so the wind feels stronger than it was at the station and the rain is now not only heavy but it is now horizontal as well. Because the tram line is on the west side of the Promenade and the Hotels are on the East side, when they get off the tram they will be on the wrong side of the promenade so they have to carry or wheel their luggage whilst looking after the children. Eventually, they arrive at their hotel to be welcomed to Blackpool.
It turns out that the other family who took a taxi, arrived at a nearby hotel, almost completely dry, about half an hour ago.

The same works in reverse, at the end of their holiday as well. I cannot imagine why the council think that this will be advantageous to Blackpool as a holiday destination?

It never rains on the Gold Coast.

Staying at or neat the Cliffs hotel - get off at Cliffs Hotel. Staying at or near the Norbreck - get off at Norbreck. Staying at or near the Adelphi - get off at Gynn Square. Staying at or near the Big Blue or its new sister hotel - get off at Burlington Rd West. Staying at or near the town centre Premier Inn - get off at North Pier.

None of this is difficult.

It’s exactly the same if you arrive at London Euston to travel across town to somewhere you haven’t been before. Do I get on the Underground, Bus, Taxi, Uber? All vary in price and time. Common sense would tell you to check with the hotel before the journey or work it out for yourself using the various transport websites.
Some people just invent problems.

Sorry but if you have to run through some random scenario to show its not going to work, its a poor do.

I think most people who arrive will check where they stay, or look before they get on a tram.

'OK so its near the pleasure Beach, ahh theres a tram going that way.'

In my scenario they made it ok, also...

'Nice terminus and hotel, I like these trams too, they look modern and classy, a massive improvement to the area since I was last here.' He said.

'Look at the new shop fronts and plans for revoe they have on that billboard too, good to see Blackpool on the up'

So it's all ok.

Aside from all of this……the Rail Link into Blackpool has to be vastly improved. The journey times are just pathetic right now and one of the reasons I still use the car to come over on match days….….ok a personal moan I know but if they want to get people out of their cars our railway network needs to be improved.

As for tram systems the Metro Link has certainly gone from strength to strength since it first started….and me and the better half are off to Bury Market via the train into Piccadilly today using our GMPTE OAP bus pass £10 p.a.supplement for no extra cost.
😉
