New tram extension terminus

I'd always thought that the new building on the old Wilko site was going to be some sort of modern tram interchange integrated into a hotel/retail/leisure thing. With some sort of integrated link into the railway station. The original artists impressions showed trams going between buildings.
But I've just found this latest plan from a couple of months ago. So it's really a hotel by the station, and another car park with a tram stop in the middle of it.

First tram was tested on Weds night up Talbot Rd to the terminus at the old Wilko site. Some vids on You Tube of the testing.Liams Transport Videos 2022 has a 14 minute video on it. Life on a ocean wave Blackpool tram you tuber has 3 vids on the testing and Building Blackpool Better one vid.

Hopefully as la1 says it gets there eventually, however the bigger disappointment for me is they should be putting lines of trees alone those paved areas north to south and east to west.

Should have been mono rail from train station to South of Blackpool and North no road problems and following Blackpool Town motto Progress.

Preston may be getting a tram system through the Preston Trampower project. This would be privately funded with part of the line running through the Deepdale area.

Got any better ideas?

Yes. Not to have a tram line from Talbot Square to Wilkos because it's a tiny line costing a fortune that will barely get used and is a MASSIVE waste of time?

Oh and 2 lanes on each side from the Metropole to Central pier. Now that would work opening up Blackpool's major North / South arterial route to locals as well as serving tourists to ease the unfathomable clusterfuck of congestion the current route causes. Imagine that!

The idea is to get cars off the road, not encourage more. Trams are the future for all, not cars for the few.

There is a new bypass underneath the hotel

Leeds and Coventry will be tram system cities within the near future also. Bristol mayor favours an underground system but all the tunnelling involved would cost billions.

So you want a dual carriageway past the tower that would do nothing to ease congestion and make the road a car dominated shithole that it was before?

Should be good when it's done along with the multiversity and the civil service buildings. Plenty of hustle and bustle. The train station building is a state though.

Usual moaners on here.
Nothing worse than a stranger arriving at Blackpool North then thinking how do I get to Cleveleys or Fleetwood or Pleasure Beach. Even more so if you have baggage or young kids.
Simple, walk to new interchange like in most Cities.
I know there are taxis but it is expensive and a crawl along the prom.

Not moaning pal. That's a lame effort at belittling someone who disagrees with you.

It's shite and I dare say 99% of Blackpool dwellers (other than a few tram nerds and council sycophants) would agree.

This will make the place look better, its all about that gateway improvement.

Its going to be miles better for people arriving by train.

They have been improving shop fronts throughout town too to give a better appearance. Plus improving some streets.

If in these arrival areas you improve the image then the view of Blackpool begins to change.

The Yeadon way, seasiders way is a nice entrance, tree lined all the way including seasiders way bit which is nice, past Bloomfield Road and that will meet the new car park and attraction on the old train station area.

If you arrive by the front, we'll thats already been done up.

Arrive by train and the new projects including this tram one has it covered. Plus more to come.

The next thing is working on those streets 1 Road back from the front. Lick of paint, planting trees, rebuilding are all things that can and will be done.

You can also see some of the plans on this plan, which involve central drive area.

That central drive are would be one bad area done at least.

Add to this the wider tree planting scheme which is still ongoing and given its probably the weather to get planting soon hopefully we'll see where they plant trees next. You can look easily on maps and see tons of verges etc where they can plant them easily, the quick wins.

The more tricky ones are where they have to do work on the street.

But its on the up, going to be exciting over the next 10 years to see it change and develop.

The only people that arrive at Blackpool North are stag and hen parties - this isn't Westminster.

"Those arriving by train" my arse. What about regenerating locals streets, parks and schools for local people?

Massive white elephant and a disgraceful waste of time and money.
Give it time. There's a lot of development on the horizon in Blackpool and a co-ordinated transport infrastructure needs to be a part of that. Even at its most basic, the North Station link will benefit me in Cleveleys. If I want to travel anywhere in Britain by train my first journey at present is either a taxi or a lift to Poulton station. With this tram extension I can walk round the corner to the tram stop and get right up to North station.

That is also happening or in the pipeline. Transport isn't a tradable option to housing et al development. It's all part of a holistic upgrade.

Take your point, but not sure they're empty. I live on the prom, see them go by all the time. You could argue at the moment they're slightly too frequent to be filled, maybe every 20 mins instead of 10sih. But then the season starts soon and they'll be a lot busier.

Plus, try getting on one after a home game!

Massive waste of money..can you imagine
coming out of train station and being told they’ll be a tram along in 10 min…..you can walk to north pier in 5….🤦‍♂️
For that journey maybe, people go a lot further than there though too.

They might want to go straight to the pleasure Beach, or elsewhere.

It can be raining a lot too.... when the winds against you and rain in your face I'd be waiting for the tram.

Its about image too, it looks good having trams come into there, brings people up too where they may not have come up so might give more footfall to another area.
