Next England Manager?

There isn't a great deal of choice in terms of English managers. I guess Howe or Potter are the only ones the FA would entertain.

Personally I'd go for an international manager. As unlikely as it sounds, I'd go all in for Pep. He's in his last season with City and he's said he'll never manage Spain given he's from Catalonia. With the young players coming through he'd be an absolute dream appointment.

Good shout. Part of me thinks we've tried the foreign approach but I can't really think of a better choice. That said, we need a new manager now, not in June 25.

It needs a change though.

All of the foreign managers failed. Mind you so did most of the English ones. The best managers, imho, have been (in no particular order) Venables, Southgate, Ramsey, Robson and Hoddle. Looking round I can't see any wonderful contenders.

I just have this feeling that Klopp would jump at the chance. Hes enjoyed living in England and would have the cream of the crop to work with, unlike the slight financial restrictions he had at Liverpool.

Pep is also coming to the end of his Citeh contract.

Just please don't have another FA yes man with no credentials....we need a winner

England managers are boring to watch!

Southgate has got us to 2 Finals but by god I haven't cared for England since.

They seem wedded to the policy of English only candidates. Unfortunately, the gene pool there is not great.

I'm not sure Pep would succeed as England manager. He doesn't have a billion pound budget and would have to work with the ingredients he's got. He buys players that will fit into HIS system. Klopp would be a better bet but that is fantasy land thinking.
Doubt Howe would want it either.
Maybe it's Steve Holland who is the problem, Southgate can stay and get a better tactician at his side.

Would love Klopp but can’t see it happening. Nearest to Klopp is Ange Postecoculu from Spurs. Articulate, amusing, well liked by players and totally attacking mindset.

Yes it's fantasy land thinking and I'm fairly sure Potter is already a done deal.

Why do people think Klopp wouldn't want it?
He was burnt out at Liverpool so doubt he wants another all consuming job at a top European club,he is approaching 60 and it's the best paid part time job in football.
Enough to give him a buzz and get the adrenaline going but it isn't day in day out involvement.
If he fails he just goes back to his lovely villa in Majorca.

I’d guess he’s waiting for the German job

Ruud Gullit once said if you want to have the best league in the world carry on playing as we do, but if you want to win Euros and World cups you need to change the way you play.

Think there’s more chance of critchly getting it than pep or klopp…..😎
The highest paid job in football management at £5M-a-year, I'm pretty sure they'd be interested. Plus the challenge of being the one to win something with England, given the players at their disposal, would be something they'd both fancy. When we lured Erikson and Capello, they were both elite club managers at the time.

Part of the problem we have is the lack of high profile English coaches in the EPL. This immediately brings pressure and derision on any England coach because you get the world and his wife saying 'what's he won?'

I reckon Klopp is off to the Saudi league. Massive bucks for a zero pressure micky mouse league. He wouldn't touch the England job with a barge pole

As long as there English.
I couldn't imagine the Spanish,Germans or French having a foreign manager and seeing as no one has ever won the World cup away from the country they where born in they have to be from these shores.

Wouldn't give it Carsley either who represented Ireland as a footballer so Graham Potter for me.

I just can’t see either of them touching it, I doubt there short of cash either 😃

It will be Carsley. Continuity. Pep not leaving City. Klopp perhaps, I doubt it. Jose's next move will be into circulation product advertising.

No current PL English manager comes even close.
I've heard good things about Carsley. I'm not adverse to Southgate staying as front man with his assistant being the technician

Madness consists of repeating and repeating the same action and expecting a different outcome; Southgate - and his team - should step aside and let someone else take England forward.

Carsley has had these players before in the Under woteva's. I think they trust him.

The more I talk the more I can see this happening.

It’s up to Southgate, his current contract ends in December, but the next England game is on 7th September, so there’s not much time. I imagine that if he’s considering staying, he’ll be sounding out the FA to find out what they are thinking in terms of a new contract.

He’ll also be considering where he could go next, obviously it’s.not going to be anything lower than premiership and given the success of high press football, he might find that not many want him with his cautious style.

For me, it’s time for a change, I don’t enjoy watching players who can excite, being made to pass back and sideways.
