Anybody seen this guy play recently. Didn't look to do much previously, but the last 3 years he has a phenomenal scoring record. Says he is a midfielder. Turned 28 this week. Seems to have acgreat record since hitting 25. Wondered if he was good enough to get back to the football league.

I'm not sure if Nick is FL quality but he is AFC Fylde's best player for me and has been for some time.

Interesting story is he was "discovered" by ex Pool striker Stuart Parker, Stuart came up against him whilst managing AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties league and recommended him to Fleetwood who promptly signed him, the fact he didn't quite cut it at the Cods tells you he's not quite FL standard.

Good player though.

I've watched Nick play quite a lot. He is a very clever, skillful, attacking midfielder who reminds me of Charlie Adam in the way he controls the midfield and runs with the ball. IMO he is exactly what we have needed for a long time. Deadly finisher, hitting 20+ goals a season from midfield. He has matured since his Fleetwood days and is now a much better player. I don't understand why he chooses to play in the 6th tier when he is at a level way above that.

Probably on a very good wedge at Fylde but I agree 100%. Should be playing at a higher level.

Just checked. After his brace last night he has now scored a goal per game this season. That is unbelievable for a midfielder at any level of football.

Saw him at Fleetwood years ago. I thought he stood out then. Always interesting how some players make it early some later.
Langstaff at Notts County is 25 . Up until last season at Gateshead hadn't done much . Hit a stack of goals last season and is already on 12 this season in the conference . .keeping up with Haaland if at a slightly different level
Be surprised if Haughton doesn't get another chance in the EFL

I played with Nick when I was younger. Phenomenal talent on the ball however may be a little light weight for championship football.

100% believe he could make a living somewhere in the football league though. Top bloke as well!

There are at least a dozen ex-Fylde players currently in the EFL, but IMO none of them have the natural ability of Nick Haughton. The only question for me is whether he's a League 1 player or could cut it in the Championship. He's at the stage now where he needs to test himself at the highest level or forever wonder what might have been.

I saw it suggested on another forum that there are a lot of players who could play at L1/2 but prefer to play at a semi-pro level so that they can pursue another career in parallel.

I was there with him and James Hardy.. I think he went to Walsall if I’m not mistaken? Another very technically gifted player. Came through the ranks at Man City.

That is often the case , but in this instance all players at AFC Fylde are full time professionals .
