No Replay after Tuesday

To be quite honest, am sure both teams would prefer just to go straight to penalties!

Blackpool's FA Cup second-round tie against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday will be played to a finish with extra time and penalties if necessary.

Forest Green fielded an ineligible player in their first-round replay win over Scarborough Athletic leading to the game having to be replayed.
That led to the second-round tie at Bloomfield Road being postponed.

League Two strugglers Forest Green beat Scarborough again this week to set up the meeting at Blackpool.

The winners will travel to Premier League Nottingham Forest in round three.

In response to the original second-round tie being postponed the day before it was scheduled to take place on 2 December, Blackpool boss Neil Critchley branded the Football Association as "incompetent" and claimed the body showed his club a "lack of respect".

In a statement, the FA said Forest Green had breached FA Cup rule 109 and had subsequently admitted the charge, leading them to play Scarborough again in a one-off match.

So we draw then say FG win on penalties and we are done out of a replay. It’s not unusual for draws in first legs between 2 teams in different divisions but when it goes to a replay the higher ranked team more than often prevails.
The FA are making this up as they go along and in effect penalising us for something we have no control over.

The FA have given Blackpool Fc a disadvantage no other club in the draw has had to face. Jokers.
Is it a disadvantage? Would we have more chance of winning after extra time and penalties at home, or playing a midweek game away from home. Personally I think it's a good thing but hope we don't need any more than 90 minutes to beat them.

I agree it's a good thing but is asks more questions than answers and opens a Pandora's box for other ties further down the line.

We don't particularly want a replay but better than being out the competition.

We, through no fault of our own, are being denied another shot should it be a draw, that other teams all got.

All thanks to their utter incompetence.

I'd back us to win anyway but it's not right.

I think it is a disadvantage because the stats show that if a lower ranked team manages a draw in the first leg, the higher ranked team more than often comes out on top in the replay.

100% agree. I’d be interested to know what competition rule has been invoked here and if this is setting a precedent moving forward.

Let's hope it doesn't come to it but there could be a lot of money lost feom not advancing and a replay is quite often the way teams advance.

100%

My understanding is that all rounds this season are to have replays up the the quarter final stage. If that's correct then the FA would appear to be breaking their own rules which makes it a bit of a farce.
I can understand why this has been done and I can only presume that both clubs have agreed to this.

It's not like there is nothing much at stake either as a decent crowd at Florist plus the winnings from Tuesday is a fair old wack

All I’ve seen is the decision being stated as a fact. Nowhere does there seem to be any background to the decision, why it has been reached and where it fits in with the rules. If the clubs have agreed this when why not say so when the announcement was made?

I am sure the FA would not offer Arsenal and Liverpool the choice of settling their tie on pens on the first day.

That’s because of the FA’s tv deals which include replays and because the FA wants their cut of the replay gate.

As others have said, this just smacks of the FA trying to find their way out of their own incompetence, and disadvantages us even if we have agreed to this out of necessity to ease fixture congestion,

If this is correct, and I’ve seen no proof, it surely can only have been with the agreement of both clubs. If so I’m personally surprised we’ve agreed

I’m pretty certain both clubs have agreed, from their perspective it’s the sensible approach, avoiding a further fixture and the backlog that follows.

The irony is we are in this predicament because FGR ‘broke a rule’ and now the FA are breaking their own rules to get the tie done! Farce
Exactly, I had a look at the rules for the FA Challenge Cup 23/24 (Sad that I am 😄 )and in the section covering replays etc there doesn't seem to be any mention of exceptional circumstances. Obviously there were grounds for the 3rd Scarborough FGR match to have no replay but why our game?

The FA lost the appeal and glamour of the FA Cup when they allowed Manure to bail out for a more lucrative overseas tour IMO. Nothing surprises me anymore with the gross incompetence of the football authorities!
