No Strikers = no goals

I see Nick Haughton scored two more with two assists for Fylde in the FA Cup tonight. I'd like to see him rattling them in for us because our midfielders couldn't hit an aircraft carrier with a beac
my mum would scored two against congleton if she’d still been with us 😯

Last season's top scorers list show they can all hit the back of the net so what do we think has changed?

Madine 9
Lavery 8
Yates 8

Yet someone on here who went to the first game in Congleton said they should have won.
What about his other 8 goals that weren’t against Congleton could your dearly departed mum have scored all those others? 🥰
If the answers yes then she must have been a good un. 👏

How many pens in there?

Lavery's 8 were open play + 2 for NI making him the most likely, but not from where he is playing now.
Yates I think had 3 pens ,Madine maybe 2 pens.

Lavery started very promisingly but seems to have lost his way since.

Madine has never been prolific and is now significantly declining and last night did not even hold the ball up well.

Yates does his best but at Championship level failed as a goal scorer for Rotherham and shows no sign of doing much better for us.

None of them show any signs of creating many chances for the others.

We need a good clear out and to start again.

Nick Haughton. 😂 😂 😂
A 28yr old playing in the sixth tear of the football pyramid is meant to be our savior Jesus it the Danny Rowe complex all over again on here.
Yep, That's exactly what was said on here about Jamie Vardy. He'll never make it at our level 😅

that's one player ttj. You championed the cause of Danny Rowe stating he was good enough for us. He clearly wasn't and the reality is that he probably wasn't even League standard. Now you are doing the same with Haughton.

I don't recall pushing for Danny Rowe at Bloomfield 20s, although I do recall him having a personal goal of the season competition at Oldham Athletic with about six worldies in one month. It doesn't change my view though that Nick Haughton would comfortably lift our desperately poor midfield. A goal per game midfielder is a rare asset and I wouldn't be surprised to see him join Wigan or Bolton, the latter already have another ex-Coaster/ex-Cod Dion Charles who is nowhere near Haughton's level.

I think we have decent strikers but do not play them consistently together. For me, I'd play Gaz and Jerry every game we can with Lavery coming off the bench. Chopping and changing does not allow a bond and understanding to develop

Anyone reckon Cole Stockton could do a lob in the Championship? Clearly within our budget.

mmmm...we've signed Patino and Fiorini on loan from Arsenal and City as well as signing Wright from Leicester who by all accounts their fans were shocked that he was allowed to leave. And he was a player who had proved himself at L1 level last season. I'm not sure how you could class them as "desperately poor" considering their pedigree compared to Haughtons whose pedigree basically is non existent. Yep, he had a good last season and he's started this one well but it''s at NCL North level which is a million miles away from Championship level.

Valid point 20s. When I said desperately poor, I was referring to our midfielders. So far, we've got nothing from the loanees except injuries. As things stand, I'll be surprised if any of our midfielders scores double figures this season and by that I mean 2 or more. By the way, the Championship is full of ex-National League players.

I think we’re trying to find our way without Bowler. He would carry the ball up the field constantly and it would create pressure in and around the opposition area.

I’m trying to keep calm about our lack of goals and I want to see how Beesley does when fit and given a run in the first team.

Just watched Lee & Janes video of the Sunderland match and whilst it was a better(it needed to be) second half I think Appleton needs to get the forwards together and do shooting practice every day till Saturday.

Our service into the strikers is shite. It's been shite for a couple of years, check the crosses/crosses completed stat for one. No decent supply + static strikers = no goals
Totally agree. If we had Haaland he'd struggle to score with the service we are currently providing.

So far Corbeanu has 3, Yates 2 and Lavery 1 (Bowler with 2). I'd say that's half what you'd expect from our strikers after so many games.

However 2 from Midfield (Patino and Connolly) and none from defence also tells it's own story IMHO

We should be looking for goals from across the pitch and a few more attempts at goals from decent positions wouldn't go amiss. This also shows how bad our set pieces have been and whether it's even worth bringing so many forward when we seem so exposed from a counter attack!

I think from Appleton's comments he has a system in his head but at least he's willing to change it and so let's see what he does with Lavery.
