Both deals look as if they could happen and you'd have to say that's the midfielder and keeper situation sorted (and we could arguably loan out a couple of midfield to bring in another body there).
Two defenders, two strikers and is that us down because it just still feels all a bit uninspiring?
 
I think Norburn would be decent signing. Captain of a team that made the playoffs last season in a position that we’re crying out for a bit of extra quality. His injury last season is a bit of a worry but I’d be happy if we bring him in.

Jones would be a decent option as a no.2 keeper.

I’d like business to be done as early as we can but it seems like you’re uninspired about signings that haven’t happened yet?

I wouldn't be too up or down about a No 2 keeper. You'd really hope never to see him play a league game.

The other lad would be ideal if, IF IF IF IF etc....

Exactly. I'm sure I remember people on here saying Charlie Adam was shite when we signed him.
 
Tbf, Morgan could turn out to be a great bit of business as could Norwood.

We’ve had signings in the past people were not inspired by and have turned out to be club legends.

Until we see them in tangerine we don’t know how it will pan out.

Sometimes you just need a blend of players that work well together that bring the best out of each other.

No, seriously. When was the last signing we made that some on here didn't slag off before a ball was kicked? It's an AFTT ritual. Adam : overweight, Rangers don't want him, he'll never adjust, what has he ever done, HOW MUCH!! Ok so I made that up but you get the gist. Nobody has a clue until they've seen a player for at least three games in tangerine.

I know what you mean, we release a player, he was a football genius, whoever we sign is a tosser!
 
I'd like Norburn in - taking a player from another club is always a sign of intent (and we shouldn't have ever been in a position where we lost Thorniley) - but I'd say he's in that mid-range - pleased to have him but not excited by the signing.

See Victorsponge's reply to my post #22. He obviously gets what I was trying to say. I was alluding to the often negative vibe from some posters on signing any player. I chose Charlie Adam because he is probably our best signing in recent memory. Unfortunately I can't delve into the mists of time to find a range of AVFTT posts from fourteen plus years back, so I can't categorically say there were any negative posts 're king Charlie, although I believe that's likely. So my point is a hypothetical one, yes.
 
Unfortunately… and this is very disappointing. Norburn has chosen to go to Bolton. Looks like he’d pretty much given us the nod but has changed his mind as it stands.

Frustrating, but being from Bolton you can understand why.

Maybe this means we'll get Baccus instead?

He'd be a good signing for any L1 team, it would be disappointing to miss out but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. We need the right quality but also players who are also 100% committed. If he has gone back on his word, Bolton are welcome to him.

I am sure that agents play clubs against each other to get the best deal for their clients (and themselves) but it seems harsh to single us out. Even the biggest clubs don't get all their targets, we will sign some players and miss out on some players, it's nothing out of the ordinary.

Let’s be honest, the signings we have made were on no one’s radar, we may not even be interested in either of these players . The only people who really know are those who matter.

We had competition for Pennington according to Critchley.
