Not good enough

Just not good enough today and looking like this season too.

First half was dreadful, just turgid stuff a lot of the time. Ponderous passing when we did do it.

Pass it around the back and then launch it down the wings.

We did well for the goal but that was about it.

Really poor for their goal.

Then with the statuesque and typical slow defence we have, undone too easily and lucky not to be behind really.

We were the better side second half but didn't really create much and again could have lost it. CJ made a difference but took too long to get the ball down a lot of the time.

Just not good enough for me in games we have to win to force our way up. Our strikers just don't score goals much without Rhodes, when he's not having his bad spell.

I don't want to hear this plenty of points to play for shite from NC as every time a chance comes along we either don't turn up or blow it.

The pitch didn't help, very bobbly, we've had a lot of games on it this season and a colder winter maybe... Will sort itself in a few weeks.

But that doesn't excuse our lack being able to win games when needed or show some quality.

A word for the ref who was another tosser who gave them free kicks and then denied us for the same thing, or said nothing to them about advancing up the pitch from throw ins and then tells us to get back. Clueless.

Oxford didn't look anything special but neither did we.

We're really frustrating to watch at times and seeing players far too often making wrong decisions or just not quite getting it right is why were are where we are.

They don't seem to have anything about them to be able to win those sort of games.

A lot of huff and puff in that 2nd half but again nothing to show for it.
The weird thing with the ref was he had no problem with Oxford advancing 10 yards with the ball but was adamant we needed to take them exactly where they went out. It’s not just poor refereeing it’s showing blatant biased towards one team.
Also why do we time after time pump long balls to Lavery?

Basic coaching error
Grimmer kicks long and our defence is still in our penalty area giving Oxford the best chances of winning secondary ball
Grimmer needs to wait till defence clears the box

Lavery was not the wasp today, more like a fruit fly.

He had that one chance first half where I think a match ready, inform Wasp would have had a shot on target.

Some of the other service he had was unbelievable in the actual crapness of it.

Great post JJ. My thoughts exactly but I couldn't be arsed posting it. Been the same all season. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Yeh agree pretty much. It's frustrating cos we look in control for large parts of games and we did today too. That's all well and good but we have zero cutting edge up front and our defence is shocking. With that make up of a team we deserve to be where we are

3rd sentence JJ, that’s it, that is Critchleys way, always has been and probably always will be. He doesn’t seem to understand that it may work sometimes, but won’t work all the time. In fact, let’s be honest, it doesn’t work.

Huff and puff sums up a lot of our football. For a respected coach NC should be embarrassed.

It’s lack of quality in the final 3rd.
Some thought Lavery was going to be league 1 top scorer this season which is laughable.
Rhodes would have made no difference at Stevenage but may have done today.

Twice today, and a couple of times against Bolton, he's away, advancing on the keeper, but it ends up with their defender getting back and him not getting a shot off.

His hold up play and touch aren't great either.

He's never going to win headers. That's not down to him.

On the positive side, he does a lot of closing down, but that's not what he's in the side for.

He should have been hooked 15m earlier

I’m loosing faith I wanted him to succeed but to me after the news about the east stand no ambition at all boring owner boring manager and I’ve been pro both

CJ made no difference at all. plenty of times he got past his man and over hit a cross. Let's face it he was so isolated at rimes he had ages on the bali but one decent ball into the box was it. His first touch more often than not is shocking.

My head has been saying no promotion since we dropped points against Charlton. After today's performance and result my heart unfortunately says no now.
The reality is we are a team with no killer edge, low on confidence and an abysmal away record.
We are very predictable with our formation and play and most teams have sussed us out. I hate how Critch bigs up every opponent before we play them and shows them too much respect.
That must rub off onto the squad🤔

In my opinion about today Critch should have started Byers and I would have left Gabriel on.Its a shame that lavery's not contributing with enough goals this campaign he's not prolific enough to have him as a starter. Dembele missed a good chance to score. Norburn was poor.
It's all flat and average for an average team.

Cheltenham won today at Cambridge which more than likely sets them up to be favourites to get result at home to us.
It has to be all in now for the fans to turn up in mass and get behind the team for the EFL semi-final against Peterborough. He has to play the strongest team.
If we win the EFL trophy we may keep some of our better players next season.

It's so frustrating as we've been hearing off players and management all season bigging us up as one of the strongest squads and too good for this division that clearly has not been the case it's just not working. UTMP 🍊

Utter crap. Twice glided past the LB with ease and created chances. That simply did not happen for the 1st 70 minutes.

Was anyone else even getting that far before that? Not really.

He got past his man, put a balls in and had a go, wasn't amazing but we at least had the threat at that point.

Don’t think your right there, looks poor to me.

Is it the same grounds team.
It's broken up a bit more this season, probably because of the frost when we've played on it, like the forest game.

Also all those sat Tues games we've had don't give it time to recover.

Luckily the sun is higher in the sky every day and it'll soon recover in the coming weeks.

The pitch is poor.

It may or may not be the same ground staff but it is the same pitch!
It's still Paul Fylnn as he was on the ttv video that time, but as said there's reasons for it.

It's only a bit poor right now by recent standards, not compared to what we've seen before years back.

It's unfortunate but not a lot could be done this season, it's seen investment.

Its just a result of the weather and circumstances, aka the amount of games.

It'll be alright again in a few weeks I'd imagine.

Agreed. The fact that it was full of pigeons today suggested that a re-seeding process may already be ongoing.

not crap at all. Read what i said. i said he got past his man plenty of times but if he then overhits a cross or doesn't get the ball past the first man then he's not creating a chance at all so stop making things.up. Name one chance he created that some-one missed. You can't because he didn't. even when he had a good chance to shoot he chose instead to try and thread a pass thru the eye of a needle and it didn't get past the first man. So go on then, over to you, A chance is that someone misses not when a player beats a man but then does nothing with it.

No point. You've proven over many years to be the most narrow-minded poster on here and would never admit when wrong. He created chances today, if a pool player doesn't get on the end of them then so be it. He was on the pitch for about 25 mins max and was our most influential player up top. That eye of the needle pass you refer to I think he should've shot but hey ho he made the wrong decision.

Pull your head out of your arse and recognise his obvious qualities rather than constantly lambasting his shortcomings and you might get somewhere. I won't hold my breath.

don;t be a dickhead. i don't rate CJ, you do, That's not being narrow minded or being wrong, it's just a different opinion on a player. so get your own head out of your arse, His shortcomings far outweigh his qualities. Wonder if you had out to say about his inept performance last week and all those immediately prior to that. Probably not because it doesn't suit,

It has for the last few weeks which is disappointing.

Mad how pitches vary from being great to poor.
Good God, please, anybody who believes the pitch is in poor condition - look at the state it was under previous owners. For this time of year and taking in to account the crap weather we have had .... it's not bad. Not perfect , but not bad.

Exactly. Even now it's a bowling green compared to how it was pre Sadler era.

Somebody sent me a video of Derby v (forget who it was) in 1975, the old baseball ground, mud bath.

So yes not as bad as that but I still think it’s poor in comparison to other pitches I’ve seen this year.

Maybe the weather is better in Stevenage

Correct.

When the grass gets growing the Pool get going & I've noticed it's getting more difficult to spot the dogs presents on our lawn, so it must be starting to grow. Two wet to mow went to mow a meadow 😂

The pitch was a cabbage patch under the Stains but that's irrelevant to the current discussion. The pitch has been pretty good since SS took over and every credit to him for that but this season it's deteriorated. Nobody is blaming anyone for it, the weather is probably the main factor, but it is noticably poorer than it has been for some time.

That's all, move on. Nothing to see here!

What a ** knob. I rest my case.

Stop embarrassing yourself. CJ was a disgrace last night. Clowns like you continue to defend the indefensible when it comes to shit players, shit formations and shit tactics from a manager whose only obsession is about percentage possession stats.
