Nottingham Forest v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 07.01.23

The sad thing is we will go back to normality against Bristol Rovers in our next away match. It's very predictable and something Critchley needs to sort out. For now though, the players and Critchley can enjoy

Only managed to get about 15 minutes of streaming in the first half but had the commentary on. second half finally found a stream. we sat back too much.

decent performance overall,

terrible refereeing again. the incident with two balls on the pitch was laughable, someone should have taken it on a run up to the forest goal . . . . . .

Excellent battling performance, my only negative comment would be the performance of CJ, apart from his cross for the 2nd he was very disappointing again.
Disagree strongly with that

First half especially he got into space behind and there was nobody in the middle to cross the ball to.

I also worried a bit at the end when Critchley subbed him for Dale because he was the only outlet we had from all the pressure at the end.

He got into space well today I thought

Did not watch match so would be interested in player scores. A great team result though in spite of losing a 2 nil lead

We seem to be destined to play Forest at least once a season forever. Faff-arse about with a replay now when it could have done with being sorted on the day but main thing was no red cards or silly double yellows and hopefully everyone came through it without injury.

5-4-1/5-2-3 looks a better counter attacking tactic away from home. Used to be Critchley's Plan B in his first stint and I don't know why he's abandoned it up until now, when clearly a change of approach has been needed on our travels in the league to stop getting caught out as easily at the back. You can tell he doesn't trust Thompson on the left so we had Lyons there but it was a better shape with CJ covering in front first half and moving up in support of Rhodes.

Credit where it's due for the manager - set us up well and we had a discipline that's been missing away from home. Many on here and on Twitter said we may as well not turn up. Looking forward to Athers et al praising NC.

Can't understand all this añti C.J. stuff not many better in league one

Good result but what would you change tactically and player wise for the replay? Do you feel there is a fitness gap between the premier league and league one?

We look far better with Lyons and Gabriel out wide. Both comfortably championship players imo.

Our main problem I think is that when Dougall doesn't play, we have absolutely zero aggression in the middle of the park, and not a great deal of strength either. Someone to really get in the faces of the opposition midfield. Even today, their midfielders were never put under much pressure.

If I was to say what one player we need to sign this January, it would be a hard nosed, aggressive midfielder.

And another Prem v League 1 tie goes to a replay in Luton v Bolton.
BBC love Luton
Depends on how many they show.

I agree Bolton, Bristol look likely and throw in the token 'magic of the cup' with Eastleigh and you have 3. 4th would be us, possibly 3rd.

thought gabriel had a very good game, husband and casey held their own, dembele was a bit off today, but still showed a few things, was getting kicked all over the place again, morgan was decent, rhodes put himself about without really making an impact today, thought Cj did ok, was well chaperoned by the forest defence but found space enough times and a great assist for the second goal.

Norburn had another shocker, Virtue did more in the ten minutes he was on than Norburn in the rest of the game.

I think a decent team performance. their second was a bit of a worldy.

Connelly was our big weak link at the back today, so I'd start Ekpiteta instead. Dougall for Norburn as well as I thought Norburn was missing for alot of the game. Otherwise just go for it again. As for fitness, there's a definite gap.

Yes agree. Hopefully Dougall stays. 🤞

That was supposed to be Norburn - remember. Thought we missed Kenny in the midfield - again.

That has to be the kicker for away performances for the rest of the season.
The issue is we are often the bigger or better side and teams are sitting in on us.

Today was the opposite.

We still saw glimpses of the defensive frailties.

Overall though a good result.

We really needed to see it through to half time though.

One thing from today:

Our style of football WILL work against the better sides. Top 3/4 of League One, Championship & Premier League clubs as they will come and press us which will allow us to play through them. It WON’T work against the lesser sides who are going to get men behind the ball and sit off us.

We HAVE to be able to adapt our style of play against these times. We will struggle to play through times who sit off us and that will cause the sideways backwards football.

Today was superb, with the defending being second to none.

I’d have taken this 2.5 hours ago. Great result away to a team that recently put Utd and Newcastle to the sword. Was always going to be tough. Dont get the slagging off of some of the players. No need for it today. For a league one team (as that’s what we are) that was a fantastic result. Roll on the replay

Why can't you, you miserable **...

Just stating a fact. Shall we just forget the fact we can't win away from home against the likes of Burton and Port Vale but celebrate a relatively meaningless game against Forest because we drew. Get real.

the bit with two balls on the pitch was odd. Should be stopped immediately. In fact did the game carry on with the ball that wasn't the primary ball ?

What a pain in the harris you are, cheers up lad its only footy and we done great!
We did ok, nothing special. The defence is all over the place as per the league but we can gloss over that if you want. Yes a draw is good but hardly makes up for our pathetic performances away from home in the league.
