o/t Anglesey

Have a photo taken of yourselves next to the railway station sign at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Be prepared for locals to be served before you in pubs and chip shops at all times..!

Booked a week there (and much to the Missus annoyance), heading off after Saturday's game. Any recommendations?
Had a week in Beaumaris, in late May.

Castle is worth a trip. Even better, was the Old Prison. If you don’t already know, why prison officers are call “screws”. You’ll find out from the guide, a really knowledgeable bloke.

A trip down the Menai of the jet boat looks fun. The only reason I didn’t do it was because of covid restrictions. I’d have got stung for £125 quid!

Went there for weekend a couple of weeks ago, stayed in Beaumaris which was a very pretty seaside village, plenty of decent places to eat & drink. Visited Llanddwyn beach which is beautiful but busy at weekends also went to south stack lighthouse which was spectacular.
Looking to return for a longer stay. Enjoy your break

Around 1980, I was in a taxi on Anglesey going to a licensed victuallers dinner which crashed. Malcom Barrass, ex Bolton goalkeeper, born in Blackpool, was in the car and suffered life changing horrific injuries, including losing an eye. No seat belts in those days so he his head went through the windscreen and back. It was truly shocking to see. Lovely bloke as well. I had the job of ringing his wife.

Head on down to the south west of the island and Newborough Warren. Multitudes of wild ponies and much else. You can take in Llanddwyn island too in that same area. Absolutely beautiful walking country. Same could be said for the whole island in fact.

What a load of crap. Lived in Anglesey for years and never had any hassle.
England v Wales ( Rugby) I hid away when they won.

if you like walking then Cemaes Bay to Point Lynas.
Or Red Wharf Bay to Moelfre and beyond.
Holyhead mountain area including South Stack was walking distance from where I lived.
Some lovely beaches on Anglesey.

Snowdonia and Lyn Peninsula close by.

If you’re going with kids, they might like Pili Palas- butterfly and creepy crawly place (has meerkats too, now).

Roesnigar beautiful beach ,close to north and south stack ,if you are driving you can get anywhere on Anglesey within 40 minutes, suggest (can't spell it correct beneleck bay ) and beumaris is very nice for a day out 👍 as said previously no problem getting served ,not sure they follow the Welsh anti English protocol .

Rhosniger beach and Rhoscolyn are lovely as is Newborough.
Dylans restaurant just over the bridge is good.
The white Eagle is a good pub restaurant
As is the oyster catcher.
For posher food the freckled angel is very good.
The Chinese in the centre of Bangor is cash only but food excellent and massive portions.

I once borrowed a workmate's caravan for a week in Benllech with my Mrs. It was on its own in a field. Turned out to be the worst holiday of my life. It rained day and night and was like being in a tin can under a waterfall. We left for home after three nights without sleep. I can see Anglesey is a nice place but I can't bring myself to go back on holiday again.

South Stack lighthouse.
Nice walks.

Treaddur Bay.

Beaumaris... take the Puffin Island boat tour.

Loads of nice places.
I lived there for 7 years.
No probs whatsoever.

Sounds like the joys of caravanning isn’t your thing….🤣….

Not a keeper, he was a defender, marked Morty in the 53 final.

Blimey, is that the Snowdon and Glyders one? No chance for me even when I was in my twenties.
It is Lytham and the final peak was Snowdon. One year, one of our team of 3 had to be taken off in a helicopter due to exhaustion and he was a former marine (or so he claimed - the wuss).
Another year, one slowed us down to a walk, as he got blisters.
We never came anywhere near to winning it; it was usually won by a UKAE Police team, who were like mountain goats and over an hour faster than most!

Just looking at the route now, I think it changed as it starts them up the Llanberis path and going down the Pyg track first, I've done the slog from Pen y Pass up the Glyders and it's a monotonous route. I suppose it's lucky they miss Tryfan off!

Oh to have the legs & back to be able to run that now!
They've to run in full kit, limbs covered, jacket, backpack containing emergency equipment & food/water, walking boots etc. I'd have to visit the loft to see what date's are on the certificate, but it was over 25 years ago I last ran it (seams like yesterday in my mind!).

Cemlyn Bay. I once saw a Bottlenose Dolphin jump clean out of the water there. Its fantastic tern colony recently hosted an Elegant Tern, which should by rights be on the Pacific seaboard making its way from California to Colombia.

For something a bit different, drive to Caernarfon and catch the Welsh Highland Railway train to Porthmadog. Absolutely great journey on steam-hauled narrow gauge railway with magnificent scenery. plus food and drink available on board. The terminus is also the terminus for the Ffestiniog Railway if you want to see more of beautiful North Wales.

To Grahamwantshisoats:

Erm......maybe because you lived there ???? 😟
Anglesey is a large Island Roughly 25 miles x 20 miles. I am sure very few outside my town , knew me.

It is a myth “ We walked into a pub/ shop and the locals started speaking Welsh deliberately”
Maybe they were speaking their native tongue, Nothing wrong in that.
Never made unwelcome in all the years I lived in Anglesey.
The same on my many visits to Scotland.

The Sea Zoo is worth a visit too.

Anglesey has a lot in common habitat and landscape-wise with the South West coast of Ireland. More reasons why we are lucky to live in these islands.

It never ceases to amaze me how ever many times I read that load of rubbish about the Welsh. Ynys Mawr, sorry Anglesey, is predominantly a Welsh speaking area. I did quite a lot of work there before I retired, and it is very much like saying I was in Moscow and they were all speaking Russian.

You must take time to go for a rib ride on the Menai Straits. A thrilling speed boat trip up to Bangor, then under the bridges and take in the magnificent views of Snowdonia. Lots of wealthy properties on the banks too where Alex Ferguson owned a property at one time.
You can also make a trip right round the island if you're feeling adventurous but try the Straits trip first. You realise how tidal the straits are when cruising past the bridges. Don't fall overboard at this point 🙃
