If they’re in halls it’s almost impossible to police- regardless of the letters they get talking about sensors picking it up, they can’t get into the block, let alone individual rooms.

I remember when someone in halls would get a phonecall from security to say the vans were coming onto the campus. The rumour would spread like wildfire and everyone would chuck their portable TV in the wardrobe. Suffice to say, the vans were never there. Once your daughter leaves halls and goes into a house share, the house will need a licence.

Check with the accommodation provider and see if it’s included with the bills. More importantly for anyone whose kids are looking to book student accommodation check what their covid cancellation policy is. If their course is cancelled or goes online you don’t want to pay for a room they can’t use

Halls are ok, private won't have any cover.

My lad has already had to pay for term 3 and had zero use. His new contract starts in Sept, however the intention is courses start as normal.

I work in student accommodation and would definitely recommend shopping around before signing for anything. Haggle for a discount as there’s lots of unsold rooms and avoid private landlords

The vans famously had nothing in them anyway.
