O/T Car Service.

I have a Hyundai 1.26 SE which I bought from new on 17/09/2019.
Had it's first service on 13/08/2020. the mileage then was1265.
Got a text this a.m. to say the car was due it's 10,000 mile service.
I contacted Chorley Nissan and told them that the only had 1858 miles now and was the service really necessary.
That's 600+ miles since the last service.
I was told that if I didn't have this service it invalidated the warranty.
Had quite an argument with them but they just said that it was Hyundai who made the rules, and they could do nothing.
Spoke to the Service manager, he said the same.
I said I thought it was a stupid bit of contract etc, but I had to give in.
I've now booked in for the service.
I won't stop there, I'm going to contact Hyundai HQ in Leatherhead and tell them how stupid the rule is.
The 1st service was £160+, this one is £244.
Bloody robbery.😠

you can get it serviced wherever you like, as long as genuine Hyundai parts are used and the service book is filled out. Won’t affect your guarantee at all. It’s a con when dealers tell you your guarantee is invalid if you don’t use the main dealers.

That's right you can get it serviced elsewhere and cheaper as long as you stick to the service schedule so it doesn't get you out of it cos of low milage but it's cheaper

Exactly, I’ve had my Mokka serviced from new by my mate who has is own garage, it’s just been recalled by the main dealer for an emissions control sensor, didn’t affect the warranty at all. Only time I would ever get a car serviced at a main dealers is if it was a hybrid or electric as the batteries cost thousands but they are guaranteed for about 10 years.
 
Interesting thread this, and I bet that there are lots of people in your situation. The Telegraph have an 'Agony Uncle', 'Honest John', who has a pretty lively advice section helping car owners with questions like this. Why not contact him?

I'm in a different boat. My E-Pace is exactly a year old and I had an invite to book my service a few weeks back. When I rang to book the annual service they said that it would not be due until June 2022 - presumably because I have only done 3,500 miles and 'the computer' has recognised this. I might ring back tomorrow - conscious of the warranty issue. But if the computer says, 'No', who am I to argue?

 
I'm 99% sure that the law says you don't have to use a main dealer for the service to satisfy the warranty.
 
We're hoping, once things relax, to drive down to The Dordogne in France.
That will put about14/1500+ on the clock, so I think I'll just go with the service.
Next one will not be by Chorley Nissan. 🙄
 
I work for a main dealer and the rules are the same for most franchises. Servicing is set on mileage and time which ever comes first. If you have the vehicle serviced at a non franchised dealer it will not invalidate the warranty. However the car must be serviced using parts / oils that can be proven are equivalent or better than the original equipment in quality and the schedule is met. A vehicle could not be turned down for warranty for instance if your window motor failed because you hadn’t had it serviced as servicing wouldn’t have made any difference to its failure. If your engine failed and you hadn’t had it serviced at a dealer you may be asked by the manufacturer to prove that the servicing was completed as their recommendation. Just the fact that your book is stamped is not enough proof. The manufacturer makes the rules and its world wide the dealer i.e Chorley Nissan are administering the warranty on Hyundai’s behalf so they have to follow their processes.
