Considering the world’s obsession with the great game - has there ever really been a good football film bearing in mind how much skulduggery and scandal is involved in the great game!

A couple of really good documentaries - Matthews (on Amazon Prime) and Diego Maradona. Both worth a watch.

The dammed United was decent.
Escape to Victory has to be one of the most Corny movies of all time.
So bad that it is worth watching!
“Away days“ is OK based on Tranmere fans in the 70’s.

Anyone remember “Yesterdays hero”. Ian Macshane and Adam Faith around late 70’s.
It seemed OK at the time but probably naff now!

Yesterday's Hero with Ian McShane doing his best George Best impression. Probably dated very badly, but was of the time.

You beat me to it.

The Goalkeeper's Fear Of The Penalty- Wim Wenders 1972 film noir. Seen it a couple of times on the BBC but rarely shown. Well worth watching.

Fully agree with Exile on Marvellouus. A credit to everyone concerned with it, in whatever capacity.

What's the recent one called about the Busby Babes, is it just United? I thought that was very well done.

Not a film, but anyone remember Striker! On the BBC when I was kid, think they did two series. About a young kid who moves area with his dad, gets involved with the local team, his dad turns out to be an ex pro who eventually agrees to coach the team. Thinking back, the dad looked like the bloke who later played Don Brennan in Corrie.

There’s a great old film called The Arsenal Stadium Mystery - made in 1939 and currently available on tptvencore.co.uk - with real footballers in it, real action, and a starring role for the Arsenal manager George Allison

Mean machine?
Green Street?

There was that one that looked really good on prime actually... what was it called..? Oh yes that's it... "Sunderland 'til I die" 🤣

My Summer with Des

Romantic Comedy set against euro 1996, A great film staring Rachel Weisz that seemed to disapear under Radar. Well worth a watch if you can find a copy these days. Edit to add, there is a VHS copy on E-Bay if you want to fork out £152.00.... 🤪

It is hilarious, especially the bit where Donald is taken to the cleaners trying to sign Will Grigg, it's like something from a mockumentary.

You can't beat this documentary about proper football. Y'tell young people about this today and they'd never believe ya.

It is 1935. On a stereotypically cold, wet, windswept and bleak West Yorkshire hillside sits the Sewage Works ground, home to Barnstoneworth United. Once a mighty team in the Yorkshire Premier League, they have now fallen on hard times.

Barnstoneworth United haven’t won a match in six years. After losing 8-1 to Brighouse, depressed United superfan Gordon Ottershaw comes home and smashes the furniture in his house in fury. His wife Eileen quietly accepts this. She keeps trying to tell him that she’s having a baby, but he seems not to notice.

“Eight One – Eight bloody One! – And even that were an own goal!”

'Up for the Cup 1950.
Starring Albert Modley.
He'd been trying to get there but only arrived after the end of the game.
Sat on the steps outside the ground he asked 'What was the score'.
'Nil Nil said the guy'. Modley replied with, 'What was it at half-time?' 😟

Reminds me of The Likely Lads episode where they're trying to avoid learning the result of an England game until the highlights come on the telly later.
Funny episode (it's one for the older readers on here really), worth watching if you can find it
I saw it when it came out. England F....a great episode. Apparently Ant &Dec redid it it ahead of one of the more recent World/Euro competitions. Now, I didn't see that one so I can't call it but I understand the reviews weren't good.
