o/t How many times did it take you to pass your driving test?

How much are lessons these day?

Little lime is 17 in Feb, & going on about learning already....

Pointed out its a lot harder & more involved to pass than in my day
Paying £280 for a black of ten lessons for my lad (£25-30 is about the average per lesson. He's not a natural driver so currently in the third block of lessons! With the cost of the theory test and insurance to follow it's not a cheap deal!

He's due his test in early January but I reckon that'll be pushed back too so no doubt another £280 to pay out at least before his test.

Personally took me 12 lessons - 10 my parents bought me for my birthday, 2 I paid for myself which I took on the morning of my test before passing first time.

Twice.
I don't think the examiner telling me that I was speeding in the test centre before we got to Warbreck Hill Road gave him the right impression

Third or fourth, I was useless, as was the car I was tested in, the handbrake failed on the hill start 😬
Never made it to my motorbike test, I fell off practicing slow riding beforehand on Fleetwood Road North and bent the indicator on my MZ150 🤣

I also passed first time in March 1988 after not many lessons and only a few weeks after my 17th.

The test today is a hell of a lot different to 30 plus years ago, and it's also very noticeable how 'back in our day' who could drive was 6th form common room chat.

Today (last 10 years or so?) no one seems arsed. I know more people that can't drive that can!!!

4 bonnet flew op on my second one , lost the plot after that, bought the Austin allegro from the old car auctions in Preston , I went to buy a white ford capri to be like Terry from minder and ended up with that pile of shit

2nd time. First time, it was lashing down and prior to the reversing manoeuvre, I asked the tester to wipe his window as it had steamed up. He said it wasn't part of his remit.

Leaning across him to wipe the window made me really uncomfortable and I never settled after that. Failed for pulling out into Plymouth Rd after waiting for what seemed ages.

Six weeks later, took the test again and cruised it. Was heading back to the test centre when I realised it was the same bloke. Good job it was too late to get nervous.

1st April. Did wait a moment when he said I'd passed in case he came back with April Fool.
