O/T The 151st Open Championship

Painful to watch McIlroy…..so much talent but when it comes to the most important bit, getting it in the hole it’s so frustrating. It really must get to him.

Harmans to lose now especially with 15 & 18 providing could birdie opportunities to come
It won't be easy for Harman whatever he does in the remainder of this round.
He'll have Rahmbo breathing down his neck tomorrow and after today's round he'll be full of confidence.
Olé🇪🇸

Agree, best player in the world but won’t win another major putting like today.

Yeh, cause he actually wanted to putt like that!!!🤣
Where Rahm holed nearly everything today the exact opposite could be said of Rory.

Fleetwood and McIlroy haven't been able to buy a putt today, the day they needed it 😖

100% he doesn’t want to putt like that.

Should have been -6 front 9, played incredible golf, he got frustrated as anyone would and got a bit disheartened.

Mcllroy was the best player at last years open but again he couldn’t get it going on the greens in the last round.

I know it happens but for him not to have won a major for 9 years is unbelievable🤷🏿‍♂️

Carnoustie 99 vibes about this big lead for an unconsidered winner of the Open. Not a good closer as I have found out to my cost over the years. Fleetwood flat footed yesterday couldn't drop the putts he needed to push on. In his favoured chasing position today and he must make more putts drop. Looked under the pressure of expectancy yesterday though that will ease a little today. 25/1 to win if you fancy him.

Rahm was brutal and his 63 was quite something. Different day but I can see him bludgeoning Harman into submission. He's 6s though I got 18/1 when he was flying mid second 9 on Saturday.

Just wondering who could be this year's Paul Lawrie. Mathew Jordan local lad, Tom Kim, Alex Fitz or Detry who played almost as well as Rahm on the back nine yesterday. All these guesses priced between 250 and 400/1. Lawrie was 500s when he started his final round in 1999. It can happen. Enjoy the spectacle people.

Harman has a nice economical swing. Not so much to go wrong with it to cause a miscue, and probably ideal on this sort of course?
His short game is tidy also. Most of the players yesterday were struggling to land their putts to actually get birdies (Rahm and one or two others excepted).
If his nerve holds it is his to lose.

No chance IMO.

Harman has been heads and shoulders the best golfer all week. As the poster above said he is very compact and not long off the tee and the course has suited his game big time.

I reckon he'll win and win fairly easily. Not a great spectacle for the viewer and I can't say I've enjoyed the course much. All feels very congested at Hoylake. But hats off to Harman. He's made it look routine.

good analysis

I'll say it again the watching US audience must be looking at the weather thinking WTF is that at the height of summer. Even I'm thinking it, it's absolutely shite I feel like driving to the airport in the morning and jumping on the 1st flight to sunshine. Bet the yanks can't wait to get back!

Stroll in the park for Harman…..played the course and conditions much better than anybody else.

However, he’s not very likeable and has zero personality. Let’s hope he gets a hell of a beating in Italy if he makes their Ryder Cup team.

It's worked out well for Harman in that he's not hitting it long enough to get into trouble. Fantastic putting though. Compare and contrast with Fleetwood.

Go to Rhodes 😁

Wouldn’t want to play him in a matchplay… he’ll putt and chip you to death and if that didn’t finish you off, standing on a tee 3 down and watching him waggle his club 10 times before he pulls the trigger would definitely be game over.

Some display though 👏🏻

Just home from a soggy Hoylake, following an equally soggy morning and early afternoon at Old Trafford. I cocked up earlier this year and got tickets for both so decided to go for it. I've had my say on the cricket on the other thread, but arriving at Hoylake at 5pm all I can say is people were pouring out of the course. A massive damp squib all round with no-one stepping up to challenge Harmon.

It was only a massive damp squib because no one could mount a sustained challenge to Harman.
Take him out of the equation and 3 shots separated 11 players then folk would have said what a great open!!
Well done to the fella for playing like he did over the 4 days and for proving my point that i made earlier in the week, that anyone can win the open!!
Brian who? (Monday 17th july)
Brian Harman, champion golfer of the year, Sunday 23rd July 👍🏻

A giant letdown on finals day. Drama was not forthcoming in a sea of rain. If the Basque bull Rahm had played alongside Harman things may have got interesting. But we will never know.

The wee American gave a masterclass in course management and lead protection at a Major championship. I didn't think he had it in him after tracking him over the years for betting purposes. But he clearly has.

My £2.50 e/w on Harman at 110/1 enhanced by 25% paid just over £400, so I was one who was happy with an uneventful Sunday

My other pick Robert McIntyre didn’t do quite as well

I also got Evens on Rory to be top 20 (including ties)

Add in a draw at the cricket- based on the weather and I was about £500 up 😀
